I keep a gearwrench stubby ratcheting in my daily carry toolbag. It's my go to driver 90% of the time. Great quality for the price, it beats the pants off any other ratcheting screwdriver I've had in a similar price point.
Similar to the GEARWRENCH 1/4" female square 1/4" female square 890007GD coupler (better word than 'adapter' in that case) shown in this video is the BAHCO R6967. Much shorter at 1.76cm, compared to 7.62 cm for the Gearwrench. There is also the CDI Torque / Snap-on 342-40 model, that is much more expensive.
In the UK, Halfords sell the same handle as the longer straight Gearwrench branded as Halfords Professional Geardriver - lifetime warranty and very good value for money with the trade discount - about a quarter of the Snap-On price.
I once used the hole in the gearwrench bit storage to push out the ratchet mechanism. I was also able to to take it apart and relube it using high quality lube.
I've got the GW set, paid $50+ from Amazon. It's made in Taiwan, not china. Seen the Snap-On kits go for $400.00!..why anyone one in their right mind, would pay that kind of money boggles the mind...some people just gotta go on UA-cam and play Show & Tell.
GearWrench also has a complete standard and metric of nutdrivers that go right into the handles. I have all of the different handles and tips and they all come in handy at one point or another
My craftsman works great for the three times I use a ratcheting handle a year, to say nothing of the forty other screwdrivers I have, from my grandfather and father and 50 years of collecting. Why I would need a $60 Snap On is beyond me. I’d prefer to buy more ammo. Best.
We have a GW nut driver set with a stubby ratcheting handle at work. And it seems to be alright. Other than it’s slipping. Granted we use it for irrigation work so it might get a little wet. And the direction likes to change if you’re really getting crazy with using it. But it’s been a decent little handle.
SnapOn for the win! I’ve been using my set almost daily for well over 20 years. Absolutely the best screwdrivers ever made. Expensive, yes! But they’re worth every penny to me.
I've been meaning to buy the GW set for a while, they sell all 3 as a set with a bunch of different length shafts. They also have a handle that rotates between straight and 90 degrees with a built in light that doesn't seem to be available in any sets. I would get the SATA ones instead as they appear to be exactly the same for much less. Two problems though, 1) they only seem to sell them as single handle kits ie 1 handle+shafts for it. If you get all 3 you end up not saving that much and several duplicate shafts. 2) the bigger issue IMO, while the handles look exactly the same, the shafts are not. GW comes with both square to square and square to hex shafts. SATA only comes with square to square so you always have to use an adapter. GW does sell shafts individually though so if you're only looking for a single one the SATA ones look like a better deal. Still haven't decided between these, a Felo Smart Handle, or a Wera 817.
That gated cap design is so when your really putting some torque on a fastener you don't pop the cap and drop all of your bits like I have seen guys do with the snap on drivers quite often.
The end cover on GW is actually a smarter design compared to Snap On's righty-tighty-lefty-loosy. They tend to open while tightening a screw with little more leverage and downward force from other hand.
I know this is an older video, and you made comments about Snap-On’s T-handle, for less money on Amazon just get the Williams brand T handle, what I did is bought the cheapest one they had and then there’s another UA-cam video on how to easily take a small pair of snap ring pliers and pop the cover off and then remove the sea clip that holds that driving bit in, then it’s just like my other snap on drivers that have removable implements but now I have a Williams T handle driver which is what Snap-On’s industrial division or something. 🤔🤔 After I did that, I turned around and got the Williams brand handle, ratcheting screwdriver, and then did the same thing. Remove the locking, see clip and I have bit storage in it and as far as the smooth texture of the handle, I prefer that for that particular screwdriver handle as it’s only used outside under vehicles, so I’ve normally always got some kind of a glove on, and the smooth handle, wipes clean, really easy. Keep up the great work Doc.

If you take the 1/4 square to 1/4 square adapter and grind one end down a little. You can put it on your milwaukee 1/4 stubby impact and use these screwdriver accesories. Yes I know they are not impact rate but its very helpful in a pinch.
Glad your t-handle works as intended. My GW t handle works as normal in the tightening ratcheting mode, but just slips out and makes no ratcheting sound in the loosening mode. Will hafto deal with the painful GW warranty process soon to replace this t handle driver.
I know it is an old video but there is a BIG difference, that Doc forgot to mention, between the Snap-on models and the SATA/Gearwrench ones. The way the ratchet dial functions. On the Snap-on, you rotate the dial the way you want the fastener to go. For example, rotate to the right to 'screw in'. What I call the 'logical' way because you rotate the dial in the same direction that your hand goes when driving the fastener (I know that, when using a ratcheting screwdriver, your hand rotates both ways but you get what I mean). The SATA/Gearwrench are set in the opposite way, like 99% of all ratcheting drivers out there. Super annoying because when you touch the dial by mistake when driving the fastener, you often reset the dial and you have to stop what you are doing to correct that. It is very hard to tell watching the video, but you can spot it: notice the way the dial is set and then watch Doc rotating a shaft at 0.25 speed.
I have both snappy and Geary All snap on ratcheting screwdriver about $100 if in stock ...... Lol Gear wrench set long handle and t handle is about $100 for a 56 piece set. Both good, get the job done ..... Brand over money-------maybe 😂😂😂

I'd mentioned these GW 'drivers a few times in the comments. Have owned them for more than a decade.

What's the play like with your GW? The slack/play on my ratchet GW screwdriver is by far more then any of my others.

Just got the snap on stubby screwdriver because u said u love it!!! Paid 60 plus 6 shipping on ebay! There 80bucks all day

Have you tried the craftsman ratcheting screwdriver? I seem to like it quite a bit.
I'm looking for that 1/4 square that would go into the t-handle and it adapting to a quick release hex for driver bits.
Hey Doc, thanks for your quality videos.
Whats the brand of your digital calipers? Do you have a link? Cheers
Here are 5 Tools I get asked about the most in comments. They appear on screen as background actors

Hey Doc! You should check out the BSGDMR6. Seems like this might be a cool comparison to make.

I’m curious you’re process to warranty gw? Last couple times I emailed apex
PB Swiss has a nice T-handle. Don't know if it's ratchet.
Gearwrench also has a straight/pistol grip ratcheting screwdriver handle (82788) that is begging for a comparison with your Snap-On.

Add a regular extension to the ratchet and then it will plug into the $2 adapter.
the snap on top allways comes loose when i use it and the bits fall over the floor
I have both snappy and Geary

Why they don't just simply can use a ¼ drive regular extension? ¼ male into handle ¼ female receiving the other accessories... it seems overbuild.
Gearwrench and SATA are identical they are both part of APEX TOOLS
