Okay, while I prefer genuine repairs over trainers and content fillers, this started okay, but I do have to wonder about some of the procedures.
I don't mind press fit parts, but you don't use lubricants, they should be CLEAN, also, if you are going to use such shallow welds, this should have had several holes drilled on the seam (10mm minimum), and had steel pins driven into those holes, to lock the gear down and prevent slippage.
If you go without locking pins, this NEEDS a deeper V-cut to maximize weld penetration!
As for this being a trainer?
The title made that pretty obvious, but two other things to consider:
The original gear showed some signs of wear, but it looked to be mostly intact and those grooves were for lubrication.
The replacement gear was clearly scrap, it had broken teeth, was the wrong type, size and ratio.
