One plays under the basket so his rebounding and fg% BETTER be higher
Imagine 1 player having the same core of teammates virtually his whole career and never winning back to back titles there’s your comparison

There is no debate regardless, Kobe flat out is a better talent then Duncan. It was much easier for Duncan to be the best player on his team. Regular season mvps/finals mvps are great but in this case I don’t take into account just from the fact that Kobe averaged 35pt per game and no MVP also having Shaq to share the ball with. If I was picking a player for a team and it was between Kobe and Duncan, I’d choose Kobe 100% of the time because he can score in a variety of ways and has that clutch mentality. He’s just better

Nick Wright will always be the first to bring up Kobe's Finals MVP trophys in why he isn't better than " insert player here " to keep him off mount rushmore or the top 5.
But he has no issue putting Kareem Abdul Jabbar on Mount Rushmore with his 2 Finals MVP. even tho he was carried 4 different times by Magic and Worthy where they won Finals MVP.
Magic and Worthy are better hall of famers than Shaq and Gasol.
Kobe won with much less talent and have to win without Shaq for Nick to even credit him with any championship. This logic isn't applied to anyone else. Magic never won without Kareem. Jordan never won without pippen but Kobe is held to this ridiculous standard because NIck will belittle anyones career if it means Propping LeBron at the very top.
You cannot say Kobe isn't top 5 when the majority of players call him the greatest of their generation. * Dirk, Wade, Parker, Bosh, Durant Etc *

Like Kobe wasn't injured on a dirty play in the 2000 finals and then plays a key role in winning those same finals after Shaq fouls out.
Like Kobe wasn't putting up crazy numbers the next two playoff runs and then guarding the best player on the opposite team in the finals.

@@joesanthosh5315 Parker and Ginobili weren’t on anyone’s radar for draft. Those two worked and learned from TD on how to be professional basketball players and TD was still the man while they had the time to grow and develop. Tim was always the best player on the team. Two way force that was the best defensive player on the floor and was a number 1 scoring option. He opened up so much for Tony and Manu. Tim immediately came in the league and took over the team from David. Kobe got drafted the year before Tim and we don’t really start talking about him until the beginning of the 3 peat. Tim was already a champion, rookie of the year, and all star mvp (co with Shaq who won the title later) by then.

Lamont Sanford In 2003, Parker was in his second year and Ginobili was only a Rookie. David Robinson was 38 and in his last season only average 8+7. Duncan was the only all star player of Spurs and no one averaged more than 15 points except himself. Can Kobe win a Championship without all star teammates? Duncan has the same titles, more MVPs, more FMVPs, better record than Kobe. He had slightly better career than Kobe.

    • @saylavii1k605
      @saylavii1k605 5 років тому +5

David Robinson was already past his prime when he was Duncan’s teammate. Ginóbili is a 6 man and Kawhi wasn’t as good as he is till Duncan retired. Parker was a great “team” player who did his job very well.

    • @atlien1988
      @atlien1988 5 років тому +6

Saylavii 1K Tony Parker won FMVP in 2007 and someone could make the argument that Manu could have won the award in 2005. Kawhi was without question the best Spur on the floor in 2014 when he won the award.
It doesn’t take anything away from Duncan as he’s one of the all-time greats, but these are just facts. Kobe has a winning record against Duncan/Spurs in the playoffs. They were in two different systems with different assignments and responsibilities. You can’t even compare a guard to a forward.
Either way, they’ve both had great teammates and all-time great careers. The only time Duncan has played in consecutive finals were in 2014 and 2015. Kobe did it twice (2000-2002 and 2008-2010).

    • @atlien1988

Robinson averaged 21pts, 11rebs, and 2blks per game in Duncan’s first season. In 2000, The admiral averaged 18ppg and 10rpg with over a steal and 2bpg. In fact, from 1997 (the year Duncan entered the league) to 2001 (his last year as an all-star), David Robinson averaged 17ppg, 9.7rpg, 1stl, & 2.5bpg!
It’s clear that David Robinson voluntarily took a step back. He was still a great offensive player and one of the best post defenders in the league. He sacrificed personal stats to win (he carried the Spurs for the majority of his career only to always come up short).
This narrative that David Robinson was just a role player is BS.

Kobe was a cold blooded closer and Killer, not a mundane piece of Mediocrity like Timmy. Kobe was a player who single handidly dominanted. Tim wasn't. Kobe owned Tim. 4-2 vs. him in the playoffs. End of discussion.

Duncan's 2003 championship run had 38y/o David Robinson, 2nd year Tony Parker and a rookie Ginobili. Tim managed to beat out Kobe & Shaq Lakers and Kidd & Carter Nets where he averaged 24pts, 15rebs, 5ast and 3blks. This year gives Tim the slight advantage over Kobe's career. Tim was also the mvp that year

chaimajin hasol by that notion do you realize what you’re saying?
      Kobe has more
      total points
      Total assists
      Total steals
      Kobe averages more
      PPG
      Assists per game
      Steals per game
      Kobe has more :
All Star appearances (you know how y’all love that menial accolade)
      All defensive 1st team selections
      All Nba first team selections
      Duncan has more
      Blocks
      Rebounds
      Finals MVPs
      And MVPs
      And Duncan averages more
      Blocks
      Rebounds
So again chill with the false narratives ....
Couldve swore you said Kobe loses in accolades and stats vs Duncan
Im curious as to how you’ll try to deflect this

    • @ATHTSupply
      @ATHTSupply 6 років тому +5

chaimajin hasol if you want to count the 2nd/3rd all defensive awards I will definitely give you that ...
But Duncan only has 1 more finals MVP and Reg season MVP than Kobe.
If you want to count total true accolades other than Rings
Both have 15 all nba selections 1,2 or 3rd
      Duncan has 15 all defensive
Kobe has 12 all defense selections
      Duncan has 3 finals MVPS
      Kobe has 2 finals MVPs
      Duncan has 2 MVPS
      Kobe has 1 MVP
      Kobe has 2 Gold medals
      2 Scoring titles
      3 More All star selections
Which would mean other than rings
      Duncan has 50 total accolades
      Kobe has 52
And as far as the fg% / efficiency Im the original poster and said I expect Duncan to be more efficient as he played under the basket ....
The Kobe vs Duncan comparison is NO comparison
      Front court vs backcourt
      Pf vs SG
It’s just folks way to try to push Kobe further down the conversation
Only thing you could naturally compare between the two is accolades. And Kobe has more
He even has more menial all star MVPS
I do agree with you about all star selections but the media and everyone gives it high praise even though it’s a popularity vote
So if you take out the 18 vs 15 all star selections Kobe still holds the helm in accolades

    • @Neanebk

Spurs won 61 games after Duncan retired. Lakers been irrelevant since Kobe's achilles. That may not speak the players individually but says a lot about the organizations. The spurs are among the top of all sports in terms of consistency. They dont miss the playoffs regardless of who is on their roster. Duncan still a legend in my book but was more fortunate in that sense.

    • @ATHTSupply
      @ATHTSupply 6 років тому +1

chaimajin hasol just because you only consider a few accolades doesn’t mean the others aren’t accolades ... accolades are accomplishments/awards.
You’re trying to rank accolades and that’s incorrect ...
James Harden missed out on 2 MVPS because of votes ....
Westbrook got an MVP for averaging a triple double and the averaged one the next year and wasn’t even 3rd place in votes.

This whole Kobe vs. Duncan convo is a joke. First off, I absolutely love Tim Duncan. But, Duncan had arguably the best coach of all time for his entire 19-year career, David Robinson was the best player on the squad for Duncan's 1st title, Kawhi won the Finals MVP in 2013-14 for his last title, he had Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili there for basically his entire career, not to mention guys like Bruce Bowen, Steve Kerr, Michael Finley, Aldridge for his last season and Danny Green who didn't miss a shot in the playoffs during that 2014 title run. Duncan only scored more than 20ppg once in his final 11-seasons. And I get that it's not all about points, but Kobe had eight coaches or something like that, dealt with countless serious injuries throughout his career (I believe he played almost the entire 2009-10 title season with a broken index finger on his shooting hand), and he was considered the best player in the league for at the very least 6-7 years from around 2003-2009, while in the discussion from 1999 until the year he tore his achilles. Kobe dealt with inconsistency and bad teams in his prime, while Duncan was in an ideal situation from start to finish. Not to mention that when the Lakers finally made a deal to get him help for a final run, the league vetoed it, and it resulted in Kobe being overworked and his body breaking down. After all that, they both ended up with 5-rings. Kobe was more unstoppable, more polarizing, and while everyone respects TD, anyone who played in and watched that era knows who owned it. It's a cute argument though by Mr. Wright.

      @hawk4813 6 років тому +5

First off: Pop's first full year with the Spurs as a HC was Duncan's rookie year and they won like 56-games. So what you mean he wasn't the "best coach until he got Tim?" Were you grading him when he was an assistant? But I will play along with your awful argument:
Bill Belichick got fired by the Browns in 1995, and then went on to be the most decorated Head Coach in NFL history. That's why the common saying in sports holds true "There are two types coaches in the pro-sports: Those who have been fired, and those who are going to be fired." Great coaches needs great players to win titles. It's just a fact. Phil had MJ, Pippen, Shaq and Kobe. Pop had the aforementioned. Kerr has Klay, Steph, KD and Draymond. Riley had the Showtime Lakers. Auerbach had Russel and Havlicek. Wooden had Kareem, Goodrich, Wilkes and Walton. Coach K has about 10000000 NBA dudes.
If you are going to sit there and say Pop isn't arguably the best coach of all time, then you just don't understand basketball. Or sports in general for that matter.

Duncan didn't have Kawhi Leonard in that last title win where Kawhi won Finals MVP? Duncan didn't have two other Hall of Famers named Ginobili and Parker on the floor with him basically his entire career? Duncan didn't have a HOF coach with him his entire career? Your comment gets a big CHILD PLEASE...

    Kobe > Duncan
    Reasons?
    1. 4-2 record head to head playoff series
    2. Kobe statistically is better playing vs Duncan while Duncan's stats decline when playing vs Kobe.
    3. They have the exact same True Shooting % for their careers despite Duncan taking much easier and closer shots to the rim.
    4. Kobe also had more on the line; he had to validate his championships because his " rings " didn't count due to the lack of Finals MVP "
    5. Duncan had the same coach for his entire career, same core players who didn't have egos, Shaq didn't want to share the spotlight and belittled Kobe which pushed him away.
    6. Kobe won with much less talent.
    Kobe had Shaq and Gasol.
Duncan had Robinson, Parker, Ginobli, Kawhi, Aldridge, Gasol etc. 2 players which were also Finals MVP on Duncan's later championships, Duncan wasn't even in the discussion for being better than Kobe until he won his 5th when Kawhi won finals mvp.

Odom alone would've been better than anybody LeBron played with in 2009/2010 not to mention a deep bench with excellent role players like Ariza, Fisher, Shannon Brown, Luke Walton, etc. Mo Williams was his 2nd best player. The same '08 Celtics team that LeBron took to 7 games and lost a closely fought shootout in the last seconds of game 7 on the road dismantled Kobe's Lakers in 6 games topped off with a 40 point blowout to send Kobe home.

Has been first team all nba more times than Tim Duncan. Actually won back to back championships and won the 3 peat even before that. Timmy never won back to back championships. Kobe would close games in the 4th quarter while Timmy couldn’t close games in the 4th quarter. I got Kobe > Timmy. My top 5 would be Jordan, Kareem, Kobe, Magic, Tim Duncan. Lebron would be at 6. It's about the fact that he is a Hoop Diva, and has never had a strong coach (Lue was actually the strongest) who would challenge him (which I am positive factored into his decision to come to LA). It's about the team put together around him, which includes four head cases and no real shooters. Jeannie Buss, who I respect, is totally wrong on this one. I totally agree with all of that you said. Yes, LeBron James is a great player but in my opinion, he is about to wreck this young team because if they arent playing to fit his style, they will be trade bait for other players which could wreck chances to maybe getting Kawhi Leonard next summer. Magic and Pelinka should have went after Paul George instead and followed that up by going after Kawhi Leonard next summer. Those 2 good defenders to pair that with a offensive minded young team would have meshed perfectly. Still I think my Lakers finish with about 48-50 wins, as currently constructed.

Tim Duncan was the best player on 5 championship teams. Forget about Kawhi and Parker's finals MVPs. Yes they deserved the awards, but in both cases Duncan was the best player on team team if you look at the playoffs as a whole (they don't REACH the finals without Duncan). Kobe was the best player on only 2 championship teams. Duncan in 2003 won with the worst supporting cast in history. Manu was a rookie, parker was in his 2nd year and Robinson was on his last leg about to retire. None of Duncan's teammates made the all-star game or an all-nba team that year.

I think some people may not want him there because of the banter between FANS about who's better and people like Nick Wright who go completely off the rails. And to be honest, some people don't want Lebron simply because his attitude on the court is the opposite of Kobe's. Lebron has a history of not showing up(I don't care about stats, I WATCH THE GAME)or quitting and fans have been using that against Lebron's fans for YEARS.
