So it seems to me based on what you say in this video, that you are one of those people that demand good endings, otherwise the game/movie/book is bad. You are entitled to your opinion of course, but this point of view regarding story in games and narrative media in general stifles creativity. A story can have a bad ending and be great, aren't bad endings part of life ? I don't mean that the game has to follow real life, I mean that you cannot have only good endings (so only one side of the coin) and expect a story to always be meaningful. If, as you say in the video this seemed like a personal story for the creators and then proceed to declare the ending as "offensive" and stuff like that, then you are invalidating the message they were trying to convey and ultimately something along the lines of "I liked your deeply personal story, but you hurt my feelings at the end so it was poopoo". I understand that you didn't like it and that's okay, but maybe it's you and not the game.
It's definitely hard to ignore a bad ending and not feel sour about the whole thing.. Like with Return to Monkey Island, while I had a great time I can't help but feel bitter towards it because of the ending.
I think we can leave that up to personal preference. Sometimes the sad or "bad" ending is the one that is more impactful. Though bittersweet they can actually be more meaningful, tightly tying up loose threads the 'good' ending left, or including more lore that the good ending didn't even mention (Bonus points for more lore lol) Anyways the point is, _if done right,_ the bad ending can be better. Not all games tbough 🤦 In some cases the bad endings are best avoided 🙄😒
Damn, that's a shame. Thought a little game that gets a spotlight on a Nintendo Indie World showcase could be something special that deserves more attention... Apologies for the potential over-generalisation, but Noisy Pixel usually focuses on the positives in their reviews unlike most other (more cynical?) outlets, so when a score this low is given, you know something's definitely gone wrong somewhere.
Believe me when I say that I was *furious* about the way this game ended. Cooler heads prevailed, but in that moment I almost didn't want to write the review at all, considering how good the rest of the game had been.
Got to say, the use of narrative in this game is genius when everything is put together. I got played liked a fiddle and I am very impressed that they managed to do so.
Reverie feels misguided tbh I think the ending is perfect. If you’re upset that she’s still there then whatever but it likes gets foreshadowed in the like 2nd chapter
I recognize this, but the problem is more with the handling of suicide as a plot element and the fact that the game makes a joke out of someone succumbing to their depression.
Seems like they were close, and they have the same PC publisher as Transiruby... Hopefully this gets bundled and the devs sand out the splinters on their next title.
My guess is that she commits suicide, and if that is the case the reviewer did not do a good job at being subtle about it. I get your frustrated with the game but people can pick up on context clues and its kinda spoiling the game if that is the case. I could be wrong which I hope I am.
I am glad he did. This game sounds depressing as hell. What was the intention around this. Arent you supposed to feel happy and fulfilled after finishing a game.
About this. Isn't the title of the game doing the same thing? I mean I kind of had a hunch what was gonna happen from the title alone. "Goodbye World" is pretty damn suggestive; I know it's based/playing on a programmers joke, but still, does anyone use those words in any other context on a regular basis?
@@utopua4all a title is not enough to tell what something is going to be about. You can guess, but you could be totally wrong. It could be a bait and switch. Her "world"could be someone she loved so much they meant the world to her but now it's time to say goodbye. Or Her surroundings, all that she has known her whole life could be changing (thus her "world" as she knows it is gone and again she is saying goodbye to that and embarking on a new beginning.) The review on the other hand gave much more inflection and hints on what actually happened. I don't mind since I don't plan on playing the game I just wanted, the reviewer to be aware that it could spoil it for others.

or scorn
the ending of Return to Monkey Island is a reference to another ending of the same series, because we already got the ending to monkey island.
@@marceloantunes998 scorn ending is perfectly aligned with its themes

Thanks for saving me a purchase ❤
In my opinion I too didn't like the ending when I first saw it but the plot twist after the credits kinda made up for it lmao
I do love the idea of them making a video game

Yeahhh with a title like "Goodbye World" I could already tell the story was gonna be pretty dark.
Opening paragraph made me realise this is not for me! Life is better than ever guys!

Understood. Sorry about that
It’s heavily implied and that’s okay

I hope she doesn’t hurt herself I wish the title was also nicer
Nah dont worry there is a plot-twist at the ending and is a good ending tbh
You're just got troll by the devs, read the plot after the credit.
