A user of 7+ years. Most of my Summer gigs are afternoon events in the Direct Australian sun. I don't use any fans. My ui24r has never failed unlike every Apple product device I have used to connect. Keys to my system are a a high mounted dual band router operating on the 5GHz band, UPS ( essential in some regional areas) , static IP Addresses on my ui24r and lighting interface and dedicated devices that never connect to the internet.
Hi, great video thank you. I've owned my 24r for about year and a half, no problems. Have installed a good quality computer fan to keep it running as cool as possible in Australian (Sydney) hot times. The only "issues" I encountered are when my tablet (android) goes to sleep, waking it up it takes a bit of time for all the controls to start responding, maybe about 10 to15 seconds. Never lost sound nor had any lockups where I had to reset the unit. The other annoying quirk is that I have a bad habit of hitting a back button on my tablet which takes me right out of the normal mix page and it takes some time to reload. Again, no loss of sound though, I figure it's an "Old dog, new trick syndrome" as this is my first digital mixer. I do use it with an external router to ensure good and reliable communication via my tablet. There is one thing that annoys me about it the most as I am a retired audio electronics tech and have found after obtaining a service manual for it that NONE of the XLR outlets are actually balanced. This I was upset over this more than anything else when I consider the cost of the item here in Aus.
Thanks for sharing, It's good to have some additional voices here sharing a positive experience. I didn't talk about external wifi in this video, which I probably should have at least touched on, but I've talked aobut it so much in other videos it just didnt' occur to me while I was rambling on in this one. I NEVER use the internal wifi for show/event operation, and thats not isolated to this rack mixer...thats my stand on any rack mixer with built-in wifi. The event in this video, I only used the internal wifi to do a quick walk-test in the venue before anyone ever entered the building, and thats 5g, not the 2.4 connection. Once the event starts, I can't be seen on the floor anyway, so wireless communication just isn't required. If it was, I would have an external system on hand, no exception. Not an "old dog" problem at all. Yesterday while I was going my walk test, I kept nudging faders with my thumb. That is a downside of tablet operation. If you don't have a case that gives you a proper handle, it's incredibly easy to make inadvertent adjustments or, like you, hit the back button. The lack of "actually balanced" XLR outs is a shame. When companies make choices like this, I can only assume it's a cost saving measure, but that makes no sense to me. Especially when you compare the cost of this particular device to similar mixers. How much cost saving could you actually have with this choice. I just shake my head and proclaim "capitalism..." Thanks for watching!
@@QuickEZ thanks for the repply. Not sure we can blame the issue solely on capitalism, Behringer is as capitalistic as they can be who sells mass produced products by tonnes and all their desks, analogue or digital have fully balanced output drivers driving both pins 2 and 3.😎 Love your user aimed videos, came across your channel in search for info on doing in-ear monitoring which I'm just starting to get into with a covers band im involved with. Keep up the good work.👍🖖
Rightly or wrongly, it’s my go to whenever something doesn’t make financial or logical sense. It’s more for comic relief than anything else. Thank you! I really enjoy helping people. It’s why I started the channel in the first place. So it’s nice to know that folks get something out of it.
Hi, Fortunately, I have never experienced this issue. Can you explain what your setup looks like and what you are doing when you experience the restart of the console? If you can provide further information I may be able to give you some troubleshooting ideas.
@@QuickEZ Mine too does random restarts, around once a day. I tried to repaste the heat sink and it might have helped a bit but it still happens. The unit is 24/7 turned on, only used inside my house and I have around +18 celsius temperature so it's a cool house. It's connected via USB-connection to the PC which I use it as a sound card. I also have WiFi enabled on the unit and I use that connection to connect to the web UI with my PC. I don't use USB-sticks or any other digital connections on the unit. Super frustrating since it basicly prevents the live usage of the unit.
Thanks for sharing tonikauko. I'm sorry to hear that you're having this issue too. It's really hard to understand how this mixer is so divided for people, so many of you out there experience these issues, and then there are so many of us that don't. It's also hard to pin down why this happens for those that experience it. If you haven't already, I would reach out directly to Soundcraft about this. My hope is that they can help you address the issue (or maybe even replace it for you if) but more importantly, the more they hear about this issue, the more likely they are to find solutions for everyone across the board. I know there's a lot of talk online about Soundcraft not supporting this mixer properly anymore, but they did release a firmware update in July of this year, which points to them actively supporting us. If you do get any assistance or direct answers/solutions from Soundcraft, it would be great to hear about it here.
The Ui is the most unreliable mixer ever. Has failed me in multiple events, the external router is not plug & play at all, sounds bad compared to other digital mixers, reverbs and delays sounds crappy, no sidechain options... and I could go on and on. Their latest firmware was released in 2020. Just to have context lmao
I would rebut saying that the Innovason SY80 with a poorly executed software upgrade was the most unreliable mixer ever. But thats just my personal experience from 2007 :) . However, I understand your dismay with the UI24 and I'm happy to have you share your experiences here so others are aware of any potential issues. Thanks for watching!
I used to have two of these mixers, I'm down to 1, and soon zero (Allen and Heath, all the way). Not only are these units unreliable, but are inconsistantly not reliable in mission critical situations. Connection issues, even directly with HDMI and USB, shouldn't be an issue. Losing control of your IO during an event shouldn't happen...period. Love the functions and usability, but need hard faders and total control with what I do now. I hear all the engineers that made the UI series don't event work for Harmon anymore. Ouch. That's my $.02.
I have a friend that has gone through two of them also. We tried redoing the heat sink and adding a ton of fans, but no go. He dumped them and picked an Allen and Heath also. He is happy with that.
Happy to have your two cents here, so that people can see there are folks having good and bad experiences. All I can say is that I have the exact opposite experience to you. My event in this video was mission critical performance for 4 straight days and I had no functionality or performance issues and that has been my experience with ever use of this mixer since purchase. Rest assured, If I ever experience anything that stops me from meeting expectations with these mixers, I will have a video about it. If a client is paying for seamless operation, and you can't provide it with this gear, then absolutely you should be moving towards something else. Allen & Heath do make great gear. Do you have a specific console you've had excellent experiences with? I spent years utilizing the iLive series as monitor consoles. They were workhorses! Truthfully, I didn't love the workflow, but they functioned well, sounded great, and kept on going in punishing outdoor conditions. I also had my hands on the CQ-18 right when they were released. Sadly I didn't have the time to make a video about them at the time and I'm kicking myself for that now. They had a lot of "Great" packed into a really small footprint. Thanks for watching!

The most common issue encountered is the USB failing causing the mixer to not startup. I had send to the dealer and get it repaired.
thanks for sharing your experience here.
My ui24 stared acting up, no sound , mute groups turn on by themselves, shows/snapshots/cues not loading
