The foundation tried to negotiate with this SCP to neutralize 682 but it simply told them that they didn't have anything valuable enough to offer.
Ouch......
If memory serves, the foundation ask something like "what would it cost to remove scp 682 without destroying earth, humanity, the foundation, and the laws of physics." It responded that neither the foundation nor the applicant could afford it.
"what if I give you a pun?"
*Researcher bright collapses into a coma*

SCP-738: "There are no rules, ask for anything."
Me: "Kill 682."
SCP-738: "There is 1 rule."
Well in many SCP Crosstest SCP-682 died. But it always came back. Besides in some end of world scenarios. But yes, if you would be smart and want it permanently dead, SCP-738 would probably decline.
Actually, they do try. It's mentioned in the experiment log for 682. The log reads:
Researcher sits in SCP-738-2, and asks "What would you want in exchange for permanently destroying the entity which we refer to as SCP-682 while leaving this planet, its biosphere, its human population, its human civilization, the SCP Foundation, and the rest of the universe intact?"
Entity takes form of the same entity as Test 203, states "Your Foundation couldn't afford it, and you personally definitely couldn't afford it," and does not respond further.
Which, yeah, that tracks.
@@TheMidgarDemon my man really went *Refuses to elaborate further*
Never really understood 682 fanboys. They're as irrational as people who worship the Joker. 682 has been around a while, I get it. But it's never been called "the impossible to kill reptile". While I get the impulse to prevent people from writing stories where 682 dies, merely to prove how badass their SCP is, there's no canonical reason why 682 couldn't be killed, other than the desire of the fanbase for it to be so.
It’s never been called the “impossible to kill reptile” but still the fact that it can’t die is literally the point. It’s not the fan base that decides that. It’s literally the primary property of the entity that it can be harmed but any attempts to kill it permanently have been unsuccessful. A lot of 682 fans are just edgy 14 year olds that like it because it hates everything but there’s plenty of people who like it because the idea itself is interesting.
The fact they were still working on the technical definition of the word "shall" 900 pages into the contract is incredible. That lawyer is definitely worth his fee.

Nonono, the lawyer did not get along with the entity. The entity got along with the lawyer. Big difference.
The entity has become that 1 guy who thinks they're friends and that the lawyer desperately wants to avoid.
@@kevlonk I feel it's less that he sees him that way and more he thinks of him as a toy and enjoys getting the entertainment out of him
The entity likes a fun toy.
I don't know, I could see the lawyer doing the non-sports equivalent of resting up, refueling, and then requesting to be sent back in. ;)
It was like taking your house cat to the zoo and showing him the tiger exhibit.
God I love Series 1, they hit so different. I *REALLY* need an expanded story or addendum on the mental gymnastics the lawyer went through with the entity.
Series one hits differently because a multitude reason. We owe the popularity of the entire fandom to those writers.
@@WILIZIN What’s the difference between the different series?
@@-0rbital- Age, series 1 are the oldest scps written (the actual writing not the entities)
Series 1,2&3 are mostly fantastic. Like you said the S1 hit differently because people where just making cool stories not trying to make a metaverse like they all seem to do now. I kinda lost interest in the 4+ series because of the way the wiki was going.
@@-0rbital- Good Question! Age is the most obvious, as they were the first entries written. But the biggest factor is a focus on writing quality. The biggest draw I found was that each of series 1 sounded like it could be the centerpiece to an outer limits, xfiles, twilight zone, or unsolved mysteries episode. The writing felt PLAUSABLE. Real even.
Now adays most entries are meme fodder or trying to ape off of creepypasta from a decade ago
The disappearance of Mopsy is truly one of the saddest moments in the SCP history
I have a family member like that, so it hits quite a bit harder than you'd think.
As someone who works with special needs kids its seriously tragic to me. Like theres a good chance the dudes life and happiness have just been completely destroyed, and he may not even have the mental capacity to just name the toy given something else.
The return of Dr Millar's quips at the end of the lectures give me life
I would definitely read a SCP-Containment Report (not sure if there’s a real name for this vein of story) where Dr. Millar reports containment attempts, and what finally worked to his site director.
It could be a real world builder (or at least help cement other world building) and of course flesh out Dr. Millar. I mean he’s worked with the UIU before, one of those situation reports could have quite a few tones to really give him more character actions. If this already exists, link to me friggin plzzzz

When they get to mopsy it always makes me sad, poor simple guy got tricked into giving away his best friend for a sloppy joe
Well, Remember. He's a D-Class. So uh, he's done some bad shit.
But on the other hand, this story kinda shows how limited the author's view of Crime and Punishment for the mentally handicapped was. Like, if you are so child-like as to still be drinking out of sippy cups and naming pet stuffed animals, there's no way you would be put on Death Row. You would of been committed to a sanitarium for life.

Loved this one. Simple and concise, but still, great. I miss these "standalone" scps that don't really fit into any big cannon or storyline. Just some good ol' descriptions and containment procedures of a creepy ass entity or phenomena.
I too prefer the more amusing standalones, one of my favorites is SCP 1776 "The Patriot's Folly", it's just a flag that somehow makes anyone with a service history think it's their flag and become obsessed with protecting it. It's nothing world ending just very troublesome to contain as your typical MTF easily falls under it's spell so the writer needed to get a bit creative with the containment procedures.
i agree. i'm happy scp has taken off as much as it has but it would be nice to see it get back to its roots. there are certain scps that warrant long tales to go along with them, but not all of them require detailed backstories and accounts n all that. part of the fun is the mystery: how does it work? why is it here? where did it come from? where did it go? why don't you tell old one-eyed joe?
I dunno, if I had a big enough cannon I could probably wedge that desk in.
/joke
Yeah, my favorite scps are just weird things that do weird things
Sadly, these things are frowned upon by the current SCP fandom. Anything without canonical connections or 6 different connected stories doesnt pass. The core concept is dead, having climbed so far up its own ass it forgot the charm that made it work in the first place.
I’m reminded about the excerpt about 738 being asked to permanently neutralize 682, and it just brings to light one of the things that got me interested in the SCP series to begin with. There weren’t many of these crazy world/universe ending threats that the Foundation are unable to contain. 682 was more unique in that if it breaks free and can’t be recontained, it will actively hunt humanity to extinction. So much of the Foundation’s efforts went into trying to neutralize 682 because of this, making it one of the most interacted SCP’s. Nowadays though, it seems each series has dozens and dozens of end of the world class threats, and many that the Foundation can’t do anything about.
I guess what I’m saying, is that I miss the old scope of the SCP series, where it was much more grounded and seemed like something that an actual shadow organization could pull off in the real world. Now it’s just so fantastical that it’s lost some of its charm in my eyes.
Yall are missing the part you decide whats in your headcannon
@@boch2411 Trust me, I’m not ‘missing’ that one of the aspects of SCP is that you get to decide which files are ‘real’ or not. I can still critique that overall scope of modern SCP files versus old school files however.
The best modern SCPs aren't the big apocalyptic ones. They're the ones built around one small concept that gives you fridge horror later.
Yeah, i agree with you on that one. There are way too many world enders especialy in the more recent series. Personally i love all those small little quirky SCPs. Pesterbot for example. Or the Archetype. Santa Clause. The infinite Ikea. Yet another murder monster.
My headcanon is that all of the world-ending SCP's are extremely unlikely to break containment. It's like asteroid impacts. Sure, an asteroid the size of Texas would be enough to end all multicellular life on Earth, but that's assuming that it doesn't burn up when entering our atmosphere, it doesn't land in the ocean, and an asteroid that big even exists within Earth's trajectory. Keter level threats could end the world if uncontained. You forget that they ARE contained.
Thought I remembered reading this one and they had asked about him permanently killing the Lizard. To which he replied that the foundation would not want to pay that price and the invididual certainly could not pay that price.
Yea me to
That was one of the entries in the 682 test log
Killing 682 basically just makes 682 stronger. Such as in the Termination Attempt SCP lol.
I desperately need a tale about the lawyer and this scp
That lawyer was so good they probably would have contained him for being an anomalous negotiator
@@blackwoodsecurity531 I mean, he works for the Foundation and has enough skill to seemingly have more than just surface level understanding of the foundation.

I love the insinuation that the demon behind SCP-738 is just doing this as his job, the deal with the mentally stunted D-Class and his apparent sigh at the situation indicates almost a sense of "paperwork remorse", if that makes sense.
I swear some of your patrons use their names to see if they can get you to laugh
I kinda miss the days when the only big threat to the Foundation was The Scarlet King, or things like 2317.
As beautiful as the modern Foundation is, there were simpler times, creepier times.
Sometimes the harder you try to achieve creepy vibes, that less likely you are to achieve it. Simple really can be better sometimes
Ah yes, the old-school SCPs! I love how casual the description is about using engineers fitted with "explosive collars" and preferably mentally handicapped to boot. It makes one wonder what kind of screwed-up institution would even consider this as acceptable until you learn more about the SCP and the Foundation in general.
That poor D-Guy. HE JUST WANTED HIS TOY FRIEND TO STAY-
I like to think some nice researcher got him a third and explained that Mopsy had to change its name to protect him from the mean desk bunny.
@@tarot227 i like to think that too :') poor d-class
@@tarot227 That'd count as "Mopsy under a different name" I think. It can look like Mopsy, but not assigned as such in any way.
Would it work if someone else named him mopsy and gave it to him? Or would it just disappear like when the d class guy tried naming it as well?
What really disturbs me is that this guy is a D CLASS who is innocent enough to think along these lines, makes me wonder what happened to get him there.
There's something so funny to me about a deal with the devil (or, at the very least, just a demon) being sidetracked by a debate on the definition of "shall".
1. Man I love the feeling of the early series. This was delightfully scary and funny.
2. WOOOOOOOOO THE DR. MILLER ENDING COMMENTARIES ARE MAKING A COMEBACK WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Dr. Bright is not allowed to ask SCP-738 for ANYTHING. A request by SCP-738.
I like this entity. Does its job and doesn't care about the change of scenery. It's so open ended that an entire fiction could be built off it. Heck it could be the cause of 'the factory' 001 proposal.
One of the good ones. I feel the experiment log could be even further expanded with interesting anecdotes. It doesn't necessarily feel lacking, just that there is more that could be done. Still, sometimes less is more and knowing when to stop is a virtue all it's own. Always a bright point to the day to see a new video.
“Medical disassembly” is such a wonderfully terribly euphemism
Once during a HAZOP we were told not to say "explode" so we responded with "spontaneous rapid self-disassembly".
Thank you for still making these. They’re amazing for people with vision problems. My brother is mostly blind & he loves listening to these, they build an atmosphere that his text to speech reading programs can’t really do.
I don't know if I should laugh or cry with the disabled man driving the demon up a wall.
RIP Mopsy T_T
Sheldon Katz is definitely an underrated character on the wiki
ahh i was looking in the comments to see if it was a courage the cowardly dog joke
Good to hear Dr. Miller offering his own commentary at the end of each lecture again.
I'm happy that Dr. Millar's snarky end comments are back. They're one of my favourite parts of these videos
This is one of my favourite SCPs when it comes to personal horror rather than world-ending threats, especially when approached by a character who prides themselves on having a strict sense of morality.
"Just try me, there's nothing you could offer me that's of any-"

Addendum 738-3: The following test was previously classified 05 clearance only, however after so many requests by researchers, including Dr. [REDACTED] to have the test/request done, the Council saw fit to have the log declassified.
Test 8: Council member 05-8 sat on SCP-738-2 and waits for 57 minutes and 38 seconds, showing signs of deep irritability at the long wait, asking several times what was taking so long, researchers were forced to explain that the wait had never been so long before, 05-8 became even more irritated but remained seated.
57 minutes and 39 seconds into test 05-8 describes young woman with ivory like smooth skin, piercing green eyes and long blond hair appearing in SCP-738-3, audio logs reveal a tone much unlike the almost musical voice 05-8 describes in their post test report, the entity apparently apologized too 05-8 for the long wait as they had 'More important matters to deal with first' 05-8 showed obvious displeasure with this answer but did not reply, the entity then asked for 05-8s request, to which 05-8 replied they would like SCP-738 to destroy SCP-682. 05-8 in their post test reports that the woman sat and stared at 05-8 for several moments without saying a word, audio and video surveillance of the test shows a lapse of two minutes and 43 seconds and proves their statement to be true, another first for SCP-738, the entity asks 05-8 to repeat the request which they do with obvious irritation for having to repeat themselves, this time however the entity let out a piercing loud laugh that blew out the microphones in the test chamber ending audio surveillance and forcing 05-8 to cover their ears, video surveillance shows SCP-738-3 rocking back and forth several times before going still once more. In their post test report 05-8 says that the entity sounded more like a maniacal hyena in its laughter after they repeated their request, and that when the entity stopped laughing it responded with just one word in a deep growling voice before disappearing.

I love the idea that the SCP is really enjoying the process of finding loopholes in the contract, and figuring out appropriate prices for the negotiated deeds, so having a lawyer who actually thought about a lot of the usual tricks and kept the SCP engaged, was actually a nice change of pace for the SCP from the usual idiots who would just blurt out a random idea without giving it a second thought

Excellent selection! I remember reading this one quite a while ago haha.
This SCP doesn't seem all the Malevolent and seems like its classification should be lowered as it doesn't seem to try to escape and doesn't force a deal on anyone and lets them walk away if the individual chooses to do so.
The Bit with the Lawyer were it had fun I'm guessing its because people don't have a grasp of what they're asking for and to go into such depth I'm gussing it was like a Person who lived in world full of Blind people who couldn't appicate the joy of sight and to suddenly find another being could see and share their joys. But in the Format of Contracts instead.
Yeah, but the better analogy in that framework would be the lawyer being half-blind (one good eye). The entity was clearly having fun at the lawyer's expense, evidenced by the lawyer never wanting to interact with it again.
@@Thuazabi I agree It would be like the Lawyer being one Eyed because the Entity has Depth Perception of which The Lawyer still wouldn't be able to grasp at but the medium of having someone that can even partial understand you would make feel phenomenal.
I do think the Entity liked him but it was too much for the lawyer.
It could possibly be considered malevolent due to the fact that the price you have to pay is typically pretty severe and negative in return, such as losing the memory of your mother, or your favourite toy.
@@Keyce0013 I DO think its somewhat bad it could be worse by making you take the deal.
The high classification is due to the ‘potential’ it has to cause mass damage
