Another great video Foresty! I almost fell off my chair when I saw the title. I was the Red Mt. fire lookout in the summer of 1995. I have lots of pictures from my time there but no video, so was great to see that view again. I was a dirt poor volunteer traveling around the country for the first time, and it was one of the best summers of my life. We rehabbed the lookout that year, new stove, bed, fridge, paint, railings, etc. Glad to see it's still standing. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Welcome back to the USA, Foresty and Rocko! I guess that this is Rocko's first time in the lower 48 states, although she did visit the US on your recent trip to Alaska. Reason the inside metal roof of your van is getting wet is not from interior condensation. Look up cold bridging or thermal transfer. I live about 1.5 hours north of Red mountain up by Mt Rainier and I can tell you it happens ~100-150 nights a year here. RV companies have been trying to fight it since forever and I maybe found one that actually has but I'll know in a couple more weeks when I pick it up. All my metal roofs drip soon as it thaws each morning leaving anything under a metal roof almost as wet as if you left it outside. I use tyvek before putting the metal roofs down to help with the drips. The van's I have lived in have done the same as you are describing. I got rid of a shipping container I had here due to that same issue. It became a cold moldy mess. What I'm having build now for my truck is all fiberglass, not a nut, bolt, piece of metal or wood, just glue and foam and fiberglass because of this very issue in these parts...Head south where it's no longer an issue and when you are coming back thru I have a shed with three sets of washers and dryers with a hot tub right outside. I think I can beat Hood River..
I think a timelapse of Rocko in the van alone as you're out shopping/showering/etc. would be nice now that she's not so nuts any more to have to go in the cage.
Hi Adam, I got one of those ninja foodies. because of this channel. you can take a pork chop frozen hard as a rock put it in on pressure cooker function for 10 minutes then switch to air crisper for about 15 minutes. results a near perfect chop from frozen in 25 minutes or so. I miss the old crock pot but hey it has a slow cook function as well. I thank Simon almost every day for the suggestion. ☮
The BEST way to minimize condensation is to remove everything from the ceiling and clean it. Then decide how much headroom you can afford to lose. Hopefully a couple of inches and pad it down so you have 3 or 4 inches (or more) total between the sheet metal and your ceiling plywood layer and the rest gets BLOWN IN HIGH R VALUE FOAM. The foam will moisture seal every cubic inch to and including the entire sheet metal, buffering the condensation to where it can't happen. Rather than plywood for the ceiling? Use something like flexible shower wall plastic liner. Rock wool lets the condensation get right to the sheet metal which is working just like an AC evaporator in the winter. Black Mold HEAVEN. That pup deserves better than that! She has no boots in the snow! At least you can do the insulation properly to fix one! Advertise AG powder if you have to pay for it for a few videos!
And if you do use plywood, or any wood, for the ceiling layer, use OIL BASED SPAR POLYURETHANE to seal it. Several coats on all sides and edges. Sand smooth before first coat, 0000 steel wool and tack wipes between coats to make it look like furniture on all the visible surfaces.. Great Winter project in AZ or So Cal. LOL

In French we say, "plus rien à dire." which, loosely translated, means, nothing to add. Or, too beautiful for words. I went once to Washington state. My goal was to get a great view of Rainier. Done! But you got it from up top, with the bonus of the super celebrated surroundings peaks. Bravo!

Simple video my foot! The views were spectacular! Watching Rocko go up those stairs was absolutely adorable. As far as doing away with my morning coffee, never! It's the only way I can get my morning meds down and not taste them, lol. Having a handful of life saving meds every morning isn't so bad, it's just the taste of them that the coffee covers up. Tried just the 8 ounce glass of water to start my day and yes it gives you much more steady energy than coffee, but I can't stomach the taste of the meds I have to take to stay alive so coffee and water in the morning are my choice. Love your videos.
Might have been a quick summit, but that scenery was surreal, with the peaks of the mountains poking up through the fog. I actually took a screen shot during your drone footage, to put in my screensaver folder. Funny you should mention caffeine - I've been pushing back my own consumption, hopefully to give it up fully soon.

Yo Foresty, I had a similar problem with coffee before as well. I used to drink 2-3 cups a day first thing in the morning, and it wacked out my energy throughout the day. I quit it for about 3 years, and recently started drinking it again with no issues. The trick? Chug water right when you wake up in the morning. You're very dehydrated when you first wake up, since you haven't had water for hours. It's why you feel groggy in the morning. If you don't already, try a cup or two of water first thing and see how that affects you. I noticed a difference immediately once I quit coffee (because I supplemented with herbal tea, which is just flavored water anyways!). I thought the lack of caffeine was what made me feel better....turns out I was just dehydrated and then making it worse with coffee, a diuretic. Love the videos, keep up the good work.

Some of the best shots ever from the mountain top! Had a memorable laundromat experience once in Lisbon. There was no soap dispenser in the laundromat - ?? - so I started walking around looking for a store that sold smallish soap packets…anything suitable. Couldn't find anything of course, so I figured I'd just have to wash with water - better than nothing. It turned out the machine injected soap automatically once it had started…what a concept.
I quit caffine after drinking 2-3 cups of coffee every morning for 10 years. Most people experience headaches after a week or so that can last 1-2 months, for me it was a dull headache day and night for a month straight. Has to do with the blood vessels in the brain getting used to normal bloodflow. Hopefully you don't witness this since you didn't drink that much. Definately felt better energy and no peaks and crashes in energy after that month.

Spray foam insulation basically removes all vapour barrier issues. I can’t believe how well insulated my van is.

I’m all about mountain tops, vistas and never get tired of sunset hikes to a small mountain top on my ranch to see a sweeping view of the pacific.

I quit coffee long ago, but still have one tea bag a day. Conquer caffeine then try alcohol 😂.
