Pavarotti is Pavarotti! And he could almost be Kaufmann's grandfather. Timbre and range aside, because no two singers are identical, Pavarotti's style is one of drama and passion supported by resonance and vibrato throughout his range. Alternatively, Kaufmann radiates emotional subtlety, as well as empathy in part-singing and voice leading. It is so obvious who the sopranos connect most with. Kaufmann blends and balances rather than contrasts, and what he and Netrebko bring out in one another is divine.
So glad I got to see Pavarotti in concert in 1988 in Orlando, FL. No one really compares to Pavarotti but now that Jonas Kaufmann's voice has matured he comes pretty close (check out his current style) plus he is pretty easy on the eyes as well. 🙃

Jonas has a wonderful and very poverful voice. Almost Del Monaco's power. But Pavarotti is Pavarotti. One of the greatests of all time.
