im not good at math at all failed math in high school but let me tell you this type of math is so easy no i am chasing my dream. if i can do it you can also!
It's easier because it's applied. I think the vast majority of people with self described "math problems" either don't like math or are "bad at math" because it was nonsensical drivel in school. Once you have real world applications for that math it not only becomes easier but actually enjoyable.
As a student pilot who struggled in math I gotta say that the more you do it the better you get at it... One thing is being lazy and uninterested, the other, is feeling inspired and dedicated to what you want...
Hello, i've been studying air law, the past week. I would like to know what was the best math one could use for flying. I'm good at math, i just need some practice.
As a pilot in the US, if you can add, subtract, multiply and divide, you can be a pilot. the majority of aviation math is remembering formulas and plugging numbers into said formulas. With the upcoming of new avionics and flight computers, most of all calculations are already computed for you, however, on your FAA written exams, you'll need to calculate problems with only a basic calculator or your electronic flight computer. Speed Distance Time and Fuel Consumption are probably your most used, the more advanced you get in flying the more math you learn, especially in IFR flying, but its just knowing the formulas to you basically.
This was very helpful. I never got to good off grades in math in my school years, and that bothered me alot with always wanting to be a pilot. Math intimidates me, gives me anxiety literally. And I feel that holds me back from being a pilot. I know I can learn math equations etc for what I have to do. Calculators always help but what about knowing this stuff old school..I'm afraid of math lol. It's a major confidence killer for me in life and my lifelong dream of being a pilot.

Youre not necessarily doing complex math. Lots of adding/subtracting/multiplying/dividing, but with calculators this isnt hard. Another aspect is knowing "rules of thumb" like: for each thousand feet you need to descend, multiply times 5 to know how many miles ahead you need to start your descent at 500 ft per minute. So if youre on a 70 mile trip at 5000 feet and need to descend to 1500 for traffic pattern altitude, you need to lose 3500 ft. 3.5 x 5 is about 17. So about 17 miles before the airport, begin a 500 foot per minute descent. Maybe add 1 or 2 miles and start the descent at 18 or 19 miles out so youre at the right altitude just before entering the pattern. Its really not that hard and 95% of it can be done during flight planning BEFORE you fly. So you just make a note of the answer on your navlog and juxt follow your navlog while flying. Its. Not. That. Hard.
Hi mate if you can answer, that would be great. How many years does it take to become a professional pilot, ex. For Boeing 747. At what age can one start studying? How many years course is it usually? Thanks in advance

Hello from a washed out colour blind real-world pilot and now an avid sim-pilot and radio-controlled builder/flyer as a result, and I've developed a graph (so far) that calculates correction angles from any heading to a runway at any other heading. It puts a mid sized plane dead on to the runway at 10nm out from any approach direction. Anyhow, the graph is a kind of lopsided convex parabola. I've been using the graph for years now with super results, but I'd like to find the equation of the graph just for ++its and giggles. Because the thing slopes up more steeply on the way up to the peak and slopes off more gently after that, I can't even get my TI-84 graphing calculator to come up with an equation. Would I have to separate the thing at the peak requiring 2 possibly logrithmic equations, one on either side of the peak? Or will a modified quadratic equation work? Fly hard... land soft. Later.
