I saw one of these in the wild today. Really stands out.
I can appreciate this for what it is, but I do think that they could have made the back opening a hatch instead of a trunk, would really up the practicality.
I agree, but it would then compete with the Ioniq 5.
My Ioniq 6 is far better than I expected.
No. Not everything needs to be some crossover styled car/van. Sedan is MUCH quieter than a hatch, especially in the back. I have had no issues in using the "practicality" of my 2006 jetta. The pass through allows me to go to home depot and stuff 10' boards into my car and close the trunk. I then look over at the "pickup" trucks that have 10 foot boards hanging over their tailgates by a few feet, or angled up over the top of the tailgate. I have had 16' through my car, with about 5' hanging out the back. Again, that same truck would have 8' hanging out. Get the Ioniq 5 if you need a vehicle that can carry a lot of large items for that single time you may need that utility in the year.
@@Power5 Don't need to change the style at all, both the Polestar 2 and the BMW i4 have a hatch lid and are still a sedan style with the aerodynamic/efficiency benefits that comes with. Both are also still just as quiet.
Not everyone wants a hatch. A sedan still has advantages (eg. interior does not lose all the warmth in cold weather nor heat up in hot weather when the boot is opened)
💯
I might be interested in buying one if it had a hatch rather than a trunk.
8:50 I'm kinda mixed on camera mirrors, that sounds like a dangerous failure point.
Yes more complication.
Mine work well and are more sensitive at night.
Mirrors jutting out the side of a car can easily be clipped or knocked off. Seems like a dangerous failure point!
I got mine 3 weeks ago and I can't get in the head of anyone who doesn't love everything about this car.
Great review! Tommy has become a real pro, though I do miss the Daddy & Son videos. Sort of like Adventure Time episodes with Martin Mertens.
Initially, I didn’t care for the looks of the Ioniq 5 but now we own one. The Ioniq 6 design emphasized aerodynamics which in part results in the better efficiency.
I get SAAB 900 vibes. Including the window controls in the center console and rear deck lid.
The silver, with the dark lower trim on the rear is the best color for plastic to sheet metal paint matching. You would have to be under 6 foot in order to be able to use the rear seat, which is a shame. A panoramic sunroof could open up some headroom And definitely would make the cabin feel not so claustrophobic. Hopefully in years to come, they can integrate the side markers into the headlight assembly and address these other details. 15:20 Bought the IONIQ 5 2023 AWD Limited (Gravity Gold Matte) instead.
I think the US spec should have the turn signal screens relocated to be on the "fins", or Hyundai should just delete them for US spec. Looks a bit odd on dash, regardless, great video Tommy and a cool car in many ways!
To get around the $7500 non-US rebate, people are leasing the car - it's eligible under that programme - then paying off the lease the next month. The key fob also activates the remote parking features, especially handy if you're looking at a tight spot. 2:49 when you turn it over
Can you please explain the $7,500 rebate. I don't understand how that works. Thanks.
Just purchased the long range limited rwd. Fit and finish is superior in comparison to many of its competitors.
I just bought mine too. I love it.
Trippy .. Porsche is callin'
The key fob is the hyundai logo
Like the look but no tax rebate and priced a bit high. Can't wait for lmfp versions that are cheaper
Kind of reminds me of the Citroen DS
I agree with you about the price being the biggest issue. Looks are subjective but price is not. Why would they price it higher than the i5? It has way less trunk space, a low back seat cushion with cramped head room in a market that prefers crossovers to sedans! I'm not an expert in this area but I can't imagine it will do well in North America at this price.
Looks great
Tommy does looks great I agree lol 😂 what iconic man
looks like garbage
Looks like a VW beetle and Porsche Carrera had an affair and this was the child they tried to hide away.
VW Beetle and Infiniti J35*, but then they tried to pass it off as the Carrera’s child.
Looks like a cross between a "new beetle" and a old early 2000s Hyundai Tiburon GT
Amazing job tommy so proud
Looks cool, i think it looks like a Mercedes S Class, vintage
What would you say is the most lively handling EV? Model 3 with a MPP aftermarket suspension? i4 RWD?
Why would the charge access door be anymore susceptible to failure than the Tesla charge door?
Is there no HUD available in the US, or did your car just not have it? It was not the top spec, was it?
I believe the Canadian market offers a HUD on their version of the Ioniq 6.
That rear reminds me of the Infiniti J30's series models from the 1990's. They didn't age very well.
Most companies have gotten away from sedans for a reason, they don't sell
When I look at this car, I see a Citroen DS with a rear wing cluster similar to the Merkur XR4Ti. Just IMHO...
For a second when I saw the thumbnail I thought it would be the model 3 refresh, glad it wasn't :D
Great episode
The Fiat 500 had window switches in the center
It looks like a old Saab design or a citrion
From day one I thought it was the Citroen DS.
Thats how uk youtube pays well when the reviewer is wearing a omega watch thats whats up🎉
Takes a lot of cues from the Sonata, the range is the big thing for me. I hope it can rival current ICE/Hybrid powerplants, road tripping EV's seems to add suspense and anxiety to something that is already filled with drama since you have to deal with idiots on the roads
The key fob is the hyundai logo
While there are some areas of the country with limited charging options, for the vast majority of road trips charging is really not that difficult.
@@COSolar6419 I disagree, the Level 3 charging stations are largely on or near the Interstate, if you are off the Interstate, charging options are limited, I find it really frustrating right now.
@@wj9494 It obviously depends upon where you are. Some states have done little or nothing to encourage EV charging infrastructure. Colorado started a statewide effort about three years ago with grants to local communities. Small towns like Meeker, Creede, Lake City and Ouray now have fast charging to facilitate EV travel throughout rural areas of the state. Even here there are some gaps that need to be filled.
I appreciate the look and styling, design differences to other vehicles but I personally don't like it and would buy the ioniq 5 instead
This flush door handle design has proven itself perfectly reliable year after year and always work and never freeze up. Ever. Same for the pop up air vents in the front for cooling. I'm not a buyer of anything whacky like this toy car.
Door handles that stick out from the car freeze up even worse. Having flush handles have worked so much better than my previous 17 ICE vehicles that had non flush handles.
Great review Tommy, but sad to say that car is hideous ! Cheers Kirk
Thanks Tommy ..Have a good day everyone ✌️
i hate the pixels, when i was out to buy a car none were available to test drive, no matter I'm happy with my new jeep
The profile has Audi TT vibes
Not that unique. Looks like a CLS. Same shape.
I love the car
But love my EV6 better!
That price is ridiculous for a car that doesn't even have wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay. As for "OMG, it has very fast charging speed!!!1" - I (as a customer) don't care, I'd much rather have a higher usable battery capacity. Because when you'll happen to be in a place where there's a fast DC charger but it's not working (and none of the mobile apps warned you about that fact) - that "giga fast charging speed" is completely useless.
ost people in Europe say those digital side mirrors suck. There's no depth to them.
My cameras seem good and are more sensitive at night.
The issues are not isolated to the one particular test vehicle. Generally manufacturers give out the best of the best for testing purposes
Mine works fine.
@@bentaxelrod I've never seen someone who bravely outed themselves as a Hyundai owner. Most people leave that part of their life a secret. You're a hero, more than Kaitlyn Jenner for sure
@@macbook802
Ha, thanks.
It’s the first.
I have European and British sports cars mainly and
couple of Japanese in the past.
The Ioniq 6 is brilliant. What more can I say.
10:54 so it's clear what Hyundai is doing here, this car is aimed at the "appliance crowd", where as the model 3 is in the "sporty crowd"
If you look at at the Camry's sales numbers vs the accords, this is probably the right call.
Holy moly, that's one tacky key fob. Looks like a remote for something cheap in the 90's
Very pricey, especially for a Hyundai.
It looks like an updated Citroen DS.
You are factually incorrect about iPedal. It is for one pedal driving and it doesn't keep your distance from the car in front. That functionality is part of the adaptive cruise control. I am in the UK, so there may be some slight spec differences, but iPedal is the same the world over. Nice video though, but so far no-one is demonstrating the auto parking and people generally moan about the front trunk space and forget to mention that the size of it depends on which model you buy. The AWD version has the smaller front trunk due to there being a motor underneath, The RWD has a much larger space.
58k for that?? Seriously??
is this the easiest to steal ... ha ha ha
Not if you don't have a USB cable
Tesla set the pricing mark. Sorry, this thing is not $5k more car than a model 3 performance. The interior of this looks worlds better. Tesla has gone way too minimalist for me. But then you get the $7500 tax credit on the tesla and nothing on the more expensive Ioniq6. Yeah, sorry, thats a no from me dawg.
The Hyundai group offers a HUD on all their platforms, but this one. It would be a deal breaker for me.
My Ioniq 6 has a brilliant HUD.
Is it not available in the US?
Your seating position in the rear seat looks awkward. Your knees were way up in the air , with no off support. You looked like you were sitting in the fetal position.
Yes Tommy looked uncomfortable. Style over function is never on my shopping list.
I took a turn in a ioniq 6 at 85 mph this guy does not know how to drive lol
This got to be the ugliest car ever made. Great job Hyundai o.o
Garbage car, give it up hyunDIE
Garbage comment, give it up Allen
Have you driven it?
Mine is fantastic.
My friend has a new model 3 which is good too, but I prefer the Ioniq.
I test drove an SEL AWD, briefly. Nothing exciting, but ok. Cargo space is pathetic, actually the main deal killer for us. Bjorn Nyland ran extensive tests on this model, if you're interested to see a lot more hands on time.
@@voyageurmike
Thanks for that.
I’ve watched Bjorn from the start of his channel. He’s excellent no BS.
For us the boot ( trunk ) is quite big, but we have other cars if we need more space.
I’m used to European cars mainly.
The Ioniq 6 keeps surprising me. It’s better than I expected, but this is all personal choices.
@@bentaxelrodBjorn's main poiint about the Ioniq 6 was that there is much hype about it, but it is still a good car. The ICE sedan we are replacing has about 50% more trunk space than the Ioniq 6. Even the rounded tunnel from the trunk to the rear seats area is problematic for storing larger objects. We need a road trip-worthy vehicle to go with the Aptera we are hoping to eventually score, and though the Ioniq 6 SE offers great range that proves not enough for us.
Worst Asian brand!
I’ve always owned European cars mainly.
This is the first Hyundai I’ve owned.
I have to admit it’s fantastic.
That's almost as ugly as the Tesla cyber truck.
