    With due respect to all super-talented musicians out there. There are few people I would consider prolific. And Pierre without question is one of them. Regardless of whether his music is your style or whatever, the man has an unbelievable command of the instrument and a beautiful mind for song writing. And... probably one of the most technically proficient professionals out there too. Just unbelievable. Mad props to Pierre.

    Wish I would have had the ability to stunt this mans aging right then. He was at his height of dexterity and virtuosity. While he's still an outstanding player even at his current age, I have never heard him play this piece as perfectly again as he did here. Granted i never heard him live so these records are the only thing I have to go by. He constantly reinterprets his old pieces, seemingly making them a little easier to play as he ages but he's still marvellous to listen to.

    • @CribNotes
      @CribNotes 8 років тому +2

      Please don't feel that way. The fact that you can play this song at all is a great accomplishment for you or any other guitarist who can play it and this helps lay the foundation of Pierre's future legacy - keeping his music alive in this world.

    • @jazzerson7087
      @jazzerson7087 8 років тому +1

      Exactly. Pierre would want you to keep you perservering and achieve your own unique voice on the instrument rather than you throwing your guitar in the dumpster and giving up. I know what you mean though, I feel like that whenever I learn a classic piece and hear a John Williams recording which is technically annoyingly perfect, it puts me off!

    @Chiangmai007 I have the sheets to Nefertari, and Hymn 11. I'm not sure which one to do first. But I'll likely add E Funk by Al Petteway as it has more "wow factor" for the non-musician and general listener. I'm interested in your thought (likes dislikes). Which do you like better Bensusans cover of Si Bhig, Si Mohr, or the one by Ed Gerhard? It is Gerhard for me all the way. Gerhards cover of The Water is Wide is tops for me too. I have not heard better covers by any others on those.

    "Wu wei is an important concept in Taoism that literally means non-action or non-doing. In the Tao te Ching, Laozi explains that beings (or phenomena) that are wholly in harmony with the Tao behave in a completely natural, uncontrived way. The goal of spiritual practice for the human being is, according to Laozi, the attainment of this purely natural way of behaving, as when the planets revolve around the sun. The planets effortlessly do this revolving without any sort of control, force, or attempt to revolve themselves, instead engaging in effortless and spontaneous movement."

    Anyone know what guitar he's playing here? It appears to be a jumbo body steel string that he's fitted with classical strings.Never seen anyone do this before...very creative. I'm going to see him this Sat eve in Denver at Swallow Hill. I don't put too much stock in ranking guitar players, but fwiw, Frets Magazine has rated Pierre the 3rd best guitar player in the world. I'm siked to be seeing him in such a small venue this weekend.

    @tuikun02 here is a guy that is keeping a real strong grove but moves in some odd timing too. Antoine Dufour - Scratch. It's really not even about guitar anymore when it comes to these guys... it 's music... the sounds/ the not sounds. So so many great players out there. where is are the masses on this? the general public music is hollow. It scares me that more people are not into this stuff. To each his own, but I just think the lack of appreciation of this is scary. music no word? what?

    Wu and Wei were 2 kingdoms in Chinese history. At a guess, it might be something about them? Or something . . . I don't know . . . I'm new here.

    • @lemeilleur9453
      @lemeilleur9453 10 років тому +2

      I think wu-wei doesn't mean 2 kingdoms, but a word means "non interference" or "laissez faire". It is one of the core values of Daoism.

  • @tuikun02

    There is something seriously "wrong" with Bensusan and his sense of timing and harmonic structure. I'm going to attempt some of his stuff, and when I get off that bus I wonder if I'll ever be able to find my way home. Or if I make it back to normal land will things be slightly different colored? A lot of great fingerstyle guitars I enjoy, but often know where they are headed in a song. Is it just me or do you guys find yourself saying "what the...?!" when he takes off in a odd direction?
