If I'm not mistaken he also plays "loving you" my Minny Riperton here? This is so incredible. His style is so unique. I saw him live once and couldn't believe it!
he's still amazing today. the hair is a little more grey. :) joyce and i got to do the photography for their most recent release, "i remember you" pictures from which they also use on tour. very fun. we love t and p!
Thanks Randy for giving us this cool glimpse into the past.. I've been a big fan of Tuck and of course Patti and have tried in my small way to emulate his style. It is a style that breathes and is life like indeed!
yeah. he went to stanford. lots of influences. joe pass comes to mind. tuck is one of the greatest guitar players i've ever seen. check out how he plays hendrix, upside down and backwards :) without so much as a glance at the guitar neck. patti's vocals are otherworldly.
Around the 6min mark he does a run that sounds very much llike a run he does in Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Very cool, have seen Tuck and Patti every time they have been to Toronto, first being "89/90. I love his playing on this tune. If I had one critique about Tucks playing today is he is almost to perfect. Like when Cd's came out and sounded to clean. But I will always be a huge fan, and hope I get to see them again soon.
They started playing our place in 1979. They didn't make it into the 800 seat theater (from the restaurant) until 83 or 84 and he had glasses on today when they did their Facebook live thing...
Interesting to hear Tuck's L5 with Gibson humbuckers (I assume) instead of an active EMG. I definitely prefer the clear, open sound of the EMG, even though I usually like the darker tone that is typically associated with jazz guitar. Also nice to see some guy who sticks to a single instrument practically through all of his career. And what an instrument it is!
Yes, he sure looks like Michael Jackson here! His glasses were to big. They came down once in a while :) But....he is the greatest guitar player on EARTH! XXX pATTY FROM hOLLAND XXX
I have been fans of Tuck and Patti for years, but I don't remember seeing this rendition. He is, as always, brilliant. Thank you so much for sharing!
Proof that Tuck has been awesome for decades. This is what people mean by "style."
yes!
So true!!!
The best.
One of my favorites! when Patti sings with him, they tap into the magic..............
...such a young tuck. Great!
OMG The New Varsity! So impossibly young. I remember those days but I don't remember him looking so young. I guess we were all younger then ... :)
The young genius at work!
If I'm not mistaken he also plays "loving you" my Minny Riperton here? This is so incredible. His style is so unique. I saw him live once and couldn't believe it!
Sem dúvida, ele é um gênio! Sempre o foi! Magnífico, Tuck!!!!

FIRST HE PLAYS: I LOVE YOU JUST THE WAY YOU ARE AND THEN: LOVING YOU! SO AMAZING!!!!! BREATHTAKING! LOVE FROM HOLLAND XXX Another Patty
one of the greatest guitar players i've ever seen. thanks for checking in...
even at a very young age, he has shown his genius with the guitar. very rare video, thanks for sharing
1 dislike = there's 1 person who couldn't appreciate beautiful music. I feel sorry for him/her

mature, light, rhytmical, wonderful, ...
amazing stuff, amazing guitar. I never heard a guitar player play in the way he does. But it's very beautiful and relaxing.
Love the unison bends. Thinking of Garrett...

Remember "Mononash"? I think it was called. Ha ha, crazy!
Some great guitar playing- very inspiring. I wonder how many shows went un taped. Some great moments caught here.
Amazing for many reasons ! & yet why after all this time only 514 thumbs up? Beautiful all the way !
Aw, heck, now have no choice but to go practice... this is a freaking encyclopedia of tasty stuff. Go, Tuck, go!
Super old school, great find. Thanks for sharing.

the other tune he went into was Lovin You..Minny Ripperton tune..this guy was definitely born with a jazz brain..cool stuff
2011? Geez. Well. Still a top notch video/player in 2021.
This is more like 1984.
2011 was when it was uploaded, not when it was shot.

He plays that like it was the easiest thing in the world, awesome!!!
quelle douceur il a dans son toucher , sans parler de la richesse des notes , quel talent , il a un peu des airs de m Jackson
Very beautiful.
The song is Lovin' You by Minnie Riperton
Beautiful playing - really amazing. Trouble is, I can't watch the video without seeing Michael Jackson!
how did he get into his own style at so young?????
so, he's ALWAYS been that good, then ! :-D
wow !!!!

Only a small thing, the active pickups used for Tuck are Bartolini pickups, not EMG.
OMG, he was a baby!
oh ... breathless wordless speakless ....
thanks richard!

One of two of the greatest guitarists to play at The Varsity, Michael Hedges being the other one! You think they knew each other?
Yes

He was very good back then, but better now that he's no longer distracted by those huge glasses.
Yes, he sure looks like Michael Jackson here! His glasses were to big. They came down once in a while :) But....he is the greatest guitar player on EARTH! XXX pATTY FROM hOLLAND XXX
