Mr. Mayor, your strong arm technique against a humanitarian effort is misplaced and unwanted. If there are criminals roaming the streets, well, that is your responsibility. Go get em...
I agree with the pastor. People needs to understand that homeless people bleeds the same color as anyone else. They are human beings as well n deserves to be treated decent. Another thing, not all homeless people are bad. Many are just struggling financially, physically n mentally.
@@Arulanefeeding criminal homeless is no different than feeding feral of any kind. Where they’re allowed to flourish, they will. Is it wrong to feed the homeless human population? No, not on its face but as the City has already established, it did bring massive crime to the area. You blaming Trump for that? 😂
@shenshen, then they can be fed while in incarceration. It must be so nice not to know anyone of your friends or family that have never been stolen from, raped, bludgeoned, strangled or killed. Sadly, I have, so just because you and yours have never been victims of horrific crime, don’t pass your “holier than thou” sanctimony on others who don’t like seeing criminals being taken care of while free to roam the streets. You’d feel much less of that humanity to feed criminals if you had to identify a body, I guarantee it.
@@patmcbride9853absolutely. I’m not sure how we ended up with such a twisted mindset that we are forced to endure lawlessness by people who won’t even spend a day of work to know how hard it is to provide for our own and them, as well. If I have to feed and house them, to solve some of society’s ills, I’d rather it be 3 hots and a cot. And I really don’t care if those hots are a dry and peanut butter sandwich or a lukewarm top ramen. Just so long as they eat it behind bars.
At least someone is doing something to help. When you treat people like animals they become like one. No showing humanitarian to them will only make them more aggressive. Most are so aggressive because theyve already been neglected for the tourists. Many may be on drugs and other things but regardless the housing price is absolutely ridiculous. How about instead of criticizing the humanitarian aids how about we do something to help. Make readily available drug rehabs make affordable housings. The more we ignore the locals for tourism and rich people buying out all the homes for rentals the more angry the locals become. Focus on the people who actually live here before people who dont. And stop letting other states ship their homeless here.
Tourists fund local drug rehabs and if you didn’t know this before, you can’t force someone into rehab. You can send them there as an alternative to prison but you can’t make the horse take their methadone.
I am so glad that they were able to continue. This is one of the few good things churches, some of them at least, do. Considering all the harm religious people are doing to our laws at the moment, I say good they are doing anything worthwhile for a change.
“Worthwhile for a change?” Lady, they’ve been feeding homeless criminals for 50 years at this church. If anything needs changing, it’s free food for all. Lawless or not. Criminals or not. Whether it promotes vagrancy or not. Whether it increases crime, or not. Get your head out. They can send donations to feed prisoners in jail, to eat where they belong.
Pretty typical for the County and City to blame the church instead of taking the responsibility you know since they have an entire police force. Oh snap, they are corrupt too! smh 🤦♀️
I never thought I'd find myself agreeing with Blangiardi but here we are. The key to this is first to send the mainland ones home. Then, set up a camp with barracks, homeless can go there, always free to leave but 3 hots and a cot, free junk food, and most importantly, FREE DRUGS they won't want to leave. Crime will plummet.
And your little imaginary city would grow into a massive county. Who would pay for this by the by? Either way innocent people get robbed, is that your plan?
The fact we even have homeless people walking around shows us that this world is garbage and the rules and behaviors of society need to change. If we all were selfless instead of selfish this world would be much better.
so they KNOW these criminals with long records are in the area and they blame the church when they're the ones who let um on the streets freely instead of behind bars. it does rain on both the wicked and the righteous. you want to get rid of the increased crime how about plain clothes officers and solo patrols. why does it take a fleet of HPD cars to talk to a homeless encampment-spread out a little *democrats soft on crime bs*
Is it a crime to feed a homeless person with a criminal record? Nope. The mayor is at a loss for not getting his way with homeless. He wants the removal of homeless but they don't go away. The homeless issue has been in Hawaii for a long time, it will not go away. The founder of the "Peanut Butter Ministry", now called "IHS", was a Catholic pastor who fed the homeless in Hawaii peanut butter/jelly sandwiches.
And your point is? It should be a crime to feed a criminal who is out free to practice their brand of living, taking advantage of the poor, weak, young or elderly. Stealing, drugging, cheating, lying to innocents, hurting, maiming, or worse. They should be fed, in prison.
@jasestrictland5517 I don't condone the criminal lifestyle. But compassion toward the hungry is what this church has. It's not unlawful to feed the homeless, no questions asked. The legislature will not debate or pass any law restricting who is allowed free meals. If the Mayor is adamant about criminals in line for food, he should delegate HPD to arrest these people, and not hassle the church.

We have criminal behavior in our own government! What about that???
So vote them out. Dont do the what about dance.

Feeding people who have a criminal history. Criminals in jails are being fed. Any basic difference?
Exactly! They get fed 3 times a day!!!
I so agree. Please refer to @shenshen’s comments. All of them.
Bless them all! My heart feels so full seeing them eat well.

WHAT TIME IS CHOWTIME AT THIS WONDERFUL CHURCH??? KEEP IT UPP!!! I KNOW JESUS IS PROUD OF YOU FOLKS...
All the arrest we've been making? So what? Are you just keeping statistics? Do something with your raise. Not use HPD for backbone.
They never should have gotten that 64% raise.
Who we are to judge one another
pretty inhumane to deny people of food just cause they have a criminal history. seems like society is turning into a ruthless world
Been that way. Just more open since Trump enabled those without consciences to be as cruel as they want.

Providing food to those who "claim" to be in need.
Moving the service a few yards won't change anything.

Pastor Akiona is a good man. Being monitored? He knows some of the meals he is serving, are the only thing some of them will have for the day.

No DRUGS brings crime to the area... food has NEVER bring crime to an area

Always avoid that side of Waikiki. They’re just enabling the homeless to linger around and make the area unsafe. Shame on this church.
