    He spent a good 5 minutes talking about water and glycol for the cooling system lol. I can totally relate. Sometimes I will start ranting to my friends about things like the cooling effects of meth injection and the way they can actually make a supercharger sweat (gather condensation on the exterior of the housing) from how much it is cooling the body of the supercharger when it's injected directly into it. Even while the engine is running and the water coolant is near 200 degrees F, the methanol will cool the supercharger below ambient and feel cool to the touch. It's amazing. That is also happening to the surfaces of the parts it going through not just the supercharger. Which is why I'm a huge advocate of at least adding a meth injection kit when building cars for more power. If possible, (in the USA) going full E85 or the very least adding a flex fuel sensor and adding all the necessary lines and seals for running E85. Since not all fuel systems are made to handle E85. There are cases where the type of rubber is not E85 friendly and it can soften and bloat or even break down and get into the fuel lines. So always talk to someone who knows what they're doing when going E85 or DO YOUR RESEARCH first. You won't regret playing it safe. You use more relative fuel flow from E85 compared to traditional Gasoline, but the power gains are great! Keep in mind E85 does not usually yield very high gains when added to Naturally Aspirated engines. It's much more practical on Turbo, and Supercharged engines since you can gain hundreds of horsepower more in the more powerful setups just by switching to the E85 Fuels. Remember you can't run a Diesel on E85. You can add Water Methanol injection though. It cools the interior engine surfaces like piston tops, valves, intake interior surfaces and also boosts the octane. Seeeee just like the man in the video, I went on a super long rant lol. I love being a car person, we all have moments where we go on and on about one particular subject that may not even be remotely interesting to someone not into auto modifications. ;]

It sure would help if it would stop breaking so I can put performance shit on. Damn thing will be fully rebuilt soon. Not a cheap car. Buy a corolla if you want cheap and reliable. Interesting to hear your thoughts on the coolant. I’d actually already planned an electric water pump (Davis Craig?) for my 380bhp 330d track car because it overheats after a few hot laps and that’s getting boring! Is there anything particular about high power diesels that increases coolant requirements over a similarly powered petrol? Eg an e46 m3 would never overheat like my diesel does. I guess the intercooler stuck in front of it can’t be helping..

    • @ryanp6138
      @ryanp6138 5 років тому +1

      It's a myth diesels run cooler, any engine with a turbo gets hot, especially when you ask for 1.5 or 2x factory power. The pumps we use are extremely good and fitted to 500hp+ factory cars - www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/pierburg-cwa-electric-waterpump-cwa-400.html - bear in mind the system will need work as a whole to make the most. Our 330d has this setup, the long head does not help!

    So would a higher amp alternator and a electric water pump free up more power from not belt driving the water pump? Would it be worth doing even If you had an engine that didn’t need an electric water pump?

    • @DarksideDevelopments
      @DarksideDevelopments  5 років тому +1

      you dont really need a higher amp alternator. Not measured the power 'gain' as such as its a lot of work for a back to back test!

    Why not fit thinner valves so you get that extra 1mm of lift, and deeper valve seats and stiffer springs for the extra rpms, especially with a late spool turbo

    • @ryanp6138
      @ryanp6138 5 років тому +4

      None of that is correct really, thinner valves melt easier and it won't help the RPMs, Di Diesels just don't have the time to burn

    • @alexwadsley
      @alexwadsley 5 років тому +3

      A diesel engine at that power means thin valves and stiff springs aren't friends. It WILL break. Something will melt like Ryan said or something will snap
