This video is a prime example of exactly why I think S1 is criminally underrated

Can you believe Series 1 is 41 years old? Not many things from the 90's, let alone 80's, have stood the test of time like it.

It only just turned 40 in October

@@DangerAngelous yeah, but that's the air date, it was filmed earlier. So the footage etc is closer to 41 years old.

@ Nobody quotes movies as being from thhe last year if it was released in January, we don't count the time in the womb before the baby comes out(though some insane people actually do)

@ I think we're splitting hairs here. If it was filmed 41 years ago. I think someone is justified in saying it's 41 years old.

This and season 1 of SpongeBob just have such a special vibe to the characters and their natural habitats, like this feels like a storybook railway come to life and very grounded, much like how Season 1 of SB feels like an underwater Hawaiian paradise with a submerged vibe, and I’m glad it’s unique to them compared to the later ambition of following seasons

Series 1 is probably the most underrated series of the show. Great video shining some light on it :)

There’s something so uniquely charming about this particular season. I’ve heard Unlucky Tug describe it as a storybook come-to-life, because of its many stationary shots that linger a long time, giving the eye plenty of opportunity to take in the beautiful scenery and excellent craftsmanship that make the island of Sodor look so…real. Season 2 is my favorite, but season 1 always feels extra special to me as well.

More is left to the imagination in series 1. I find the more sparsely populated sets and cooler colour grading causes the daytime scenes to have mid-morning/noon vibes. It's like they all take place in the calm after rush hour, aside from "express leaving Knapford" scenes I suppose.

Season 1 will always be my favorite season of Thomas. It isn’t the most action packed or the most cinematic, but it's the original, untainted vision of Thomas the Tank Engine. The simplicity in its slice-of-life stories, the arcs that all characters go through, the storybook-esque visuals, the fact that it's the only season where watching the episodes in order actually matters; it just feels complete. As someone who grew up watching the nitrogen era on TV as a kid, there's just a certain vibe I get when watching this season that I don't get with any other season of the show.

I agree with every point, I've always felt this series was so simple, serene, and comfy. And with the music added, it just felt so easy to immerse yourself and let your imagination explore the world yourself. I especially loved George Carlin's narrations too, always gave a elder telling you a story vibe

Your right i always love this Series even tho my favourite is Series 2 but this one feels a bit different something special that idk exactly what is it but one thing for sure i know in this Series is that Thomas and Gordon rival arc starts here and ends with a beautiful alliance between those two

All very good points my friend. I enjoy the multi episode arcs as it helps with character developments. We all know how limited they were with space when filming but they really did get their mileage out of it in terms of production. The music is top tier all round as well as use of sound design. Season 1 is brilliant.
Well done on another stellar video ☺️🚂🚃

It's why I think series 1 is the best series of the show, it has that comfy feel, it's camerawork making it look like a picture come to life, and need I mention the music?

Series 1 captures the British look perfectly to me, I feel they really 'tried to capture books in this season. Season 2, the sets felt a bit thrown together and lower budget.

I feel like Season 1, to describe it would be the word "cozy". All those examples from the gorgeous set designs, the parts with no narration or score. Even the simplier cast of just the steam engines.

For me series one excels in introducing the audience to the world of Thomas the tank engine, I very much enjoy the main focus of the five engines (minus Percy and Toby due to their small screen time) and how fleshed out all of them became during the end of the season. Such obvious picks like Thomas and Henry going through their respective character arcs or Gordon just simply getting put in his place for being a lovable arrogant jerk. It’s because of this great set up from the original books that the tv series team were able to craft their magic into the models, the simple but yet rememberable set locations and of course the sound design and iconic music that sets up a fantastic introduction to a once amazing children’s tv series.
