  • I recently purchased two more DNA features that are on Genomelink.com onto the 23andMe raw DNA that I had uploaded. And I was very pleased at the results.

    Thank you, I agree. It's more assuring when you do find the same ethnicities popping up on various tests, but the overal composition doesn't change much even if the percentages do and they usually do at times significantly.

    Im Hispanic with white skinned and green eyes and darker hair. Often people thought I was Russian, Ukraine, Greek or other places. And I took it and it said I had all that. It seems I have a higher European than Indigenous which I did expected that. Also, im connected genetically in a smaller percentage with west Asia-turkey. Overall we are connected and have been mixing with each other for so long. Hopefully this makes us all feel more united and understanding of others.

      Yes. You can. However, it will cost you to unlock the ancestry features. If you have 23andMe raw DNA it will show up better results. I've noticed my AncestryDNA isn't processed as good, and leaves some stuff out, when I compare both kits on GEDmatch.

      I'm not sure because I've always used a regular computer/laptop to do it. The file will normally be a zipped file. Then you unzip it and it is a text file. If you have a laptop, I'd try it that way. But if you don't, I'd use the iPad and see if it works.

      I would say so. But a good idea would be to take your raw DNA from whichever company (23andMe, MyHeritage, or AncestryDNA) and load it up on GEDmatch.com (for free). Once loaded, if you run your kit through the K13 Global model and it shows up with American Indian, then it's a safe bet that you do have Native American DNA. Because that would be at least 2 places saying so. Another good place to do a DNA test with is CRI Genetics. It costs between $70 something to $100 (depending what all you want to add to your report). But it's pretty awesome how deep they dive into your DNA. I loved my report!

      Did you mean Serrano? If that's the case, then you have 3.7% (almost 4%) of this Native American tribe in your DNA. From what I just read, this tribe was in the Northwestern regions of North America. If I had to guess, you probably have a 2nd, or 3rd great grandparent who was 100% Serrano Indian who married someone else from another ethnicity group (even if that other person was also Native American, they had a different kind of Native American than the 100% Serrano person). Is that what you were wondering?

    Is this because Ancesty and 23 & Me only go back 500 years and Genomelink goes back 5,000 years?

    • @odetomy
      @odetomy  3 місяці тому

      Actually, Ancestry and 23andme barley go back 150 years. My DNA report doesn't reflect much of the DNA I received from my 4th and 5th great grandparents. And, on average, that covers about 150 years of a family tree. Your 6th cousin is about the farthest out they will show you of your kinship matches. But... If I have any 6th cousins who don't share, at least, a full 8th centimorgan strip of DNA with me, that cousin won't be listed as my cousin on Ancestry.com. Same thing with 23andMe. This is very sad. Those companies need to do better.

    • @fredoconn
      @fredoconn 3 місяці тому

      Ancestry and 23 & Me have gone back more than 500 years for me but that's because you have to have the information to connect to other people's info. Family Search is also a good website.

    • @odetomy
      @odetomy  3 місяці тому +1

      @@fredoconn I've done a lot of family research and I can tell you that it's barely 150 years for me. Think about it. They refuse to connect anyone up to each other past the 5th great grandparent on their Thru Lines feature. It's because they aren't telling you the truth past that time frame. If you are mostly a homogenous heritage (where most of your ancestors only came from a certain region), or if there were mostly very recent changes in ethnicity groups in your family tree, then you would certainly believe they are going 500 or more years in your history. Because there's not much change in your family tree that you know of past a certain point, except for the more modern stuff. However, if there has been a LOT of different changes in ethnicity groups that happened prior to your 4th or 5th great grandparent, you are kind of out of luck on Ancestry and 23andMe. They are refusing to unlock the Thru Lines feature past the 5th great grandparent because they don't want to go back further in time than that. Yet, they want to fool lots of people into thinking that they are going as far back as 1,000 years. That is a LIE. Otherwise, all this stuff that is showing up on these other DNA sites (that actually DO DIG DEEPER) that I have taken DNA test through and with all the information I have found in my family tree would be lining up on Ancestry and 23andMe. But it's not. One has to ask WHY. If a company doesn't look at DNA strips smaller than 8 cM long in size, they are omitting your past. Because those smaller pieces are your ancient ancestors. Get it? The bigger the strips, the more homogenous the pieces are and the more recent the ancestry. Because if you have most of your ancestry be one ethnicity group passed down for years in a particular side of your family, it's going to stick together in longer strands like glue. The smaller the strips, the more changes that happened in ethnicity groups and the more ancient the ancestry is. Especially when dealing with lots of changes in ethnicity groups. I've had a whole lot of changes in ethnicity groups in my family tree that has happened over a 1,000 years, or even 500 years. As you can see from this video.

      I’m still just now figuring out how to interpret these results but they seem mostly accurate forsure given my ancestry. For example, 23 and me just labels me Ashkenazi Jew from my fathers side. However, they don’t break down the typical admixture of that. Ashkenazi Jews r said to be men from the Levant (Israel Middle East) taken to Italy as slaves and bred with Italian women. When they moved to further north in Europe including eastern and western, they ended up staying within their own communities and not breeding outside of them a whole lot although there is often a little admixture. After doing my heritage I was very satisfied and then doing gedmatch tools and genomelink it all seemed to break it down that I have about a quarter of that Ashkenazi side to be middle eastern, about a quarter to Eastern European but is as broken down into south Slavic with genomelink which honestly seems incredible accurate. I can see it on my great grandfathers face and where he settled it adds up. And then the other half is Mediterranean of mostly southern Italian and Iberian. Most Ashkenazi have Italian and often a little green due to Greeks traveling and breeding there but it’s always a mix. Some Ashkenazis have far more middle eastern than Mediterranean or more equal amount and u can see it on ur face. This is my perception so far but I’m still learning alot
