The biggest risk from one of these tests is the rather high likelihood that you find out that your apparent father is not your actual father. It’s shocking how frequently this happens. 🤷‍♂️

    • @dawnelder9046

Actually 8 percent of the time. About 5 percent of those fathers know. Sperm banks or adoption.
      So in reality 3 percent.
A young woman in Toronto bought her entire family DNA tests. The parents had to call a family meeting. The 4 children all had the same dad, just not the one who raised them. His swimmers didn't work.
They all had a good laugh.
But for those 3 percent where Dad did not know, it must be devastating for both the father and the child. Especially if very close.

This is stupid. If you do read the privacy policy for ancestry, it CLEARLY SAYS "Ancestry does not share your individual Personal Information (including your Genetic Information) with third-parties without your additional consent other than as described in this Privacy Statement. In particular, we will not share your Genetic Information with INSURANCE COMPANIES, employers, or third-party marketers without your express consent." as for the lying to the insurance companies, that is an obvious risk you take when you do a dna test, and you would opt out for hearing your parents or relatives telling you that you need to wear sunscreen because you get skin cancer. In this age of third-party info-sharing and privacy law loopholes and aggressive marketing tactics, I don't think it's possible to be too cautious. I've never spent money on one of those ancestry tests because I had some doubts about their accuracy, but this video brings up factors that are an even bigger concern. What I don't appreciate is that 'those Republicans' are being blamed (and I'm not a Republican). The rapid increase in those tests' availability and popularity just happened to occur during a Republican Presidential term. Insurance company greed has been around a lot longer.

I’m glad I kept searching for answers. Now I can more easily accept my unusually large face and underdeveloped genitalia, because I know why I am so different now. I found a support group for the offspring of incest and a community that I cherish. I met my partner here. She has a chromosomal disorder that prevented her from experiencing full puberty. She has the head of an adult on a childlike body. Our conditions are different, but we look similar to each other. It’s what led to our mutual attraction. its not about them getting the dna results. its that if you see your own results and then apply for health insurance and then omit things you saw on your results on the application. they can void your insurance. so all they need is a receipt that you bought a test to know that you may have left out information.

I have been thinking about this in order to find out what other races that I have within in me and to find long lost family members. But I haven't done it before because I too feel like it is sensitive information that shouldn't just be uploaded online somewhere or for companies to easily access. Also yes it gives us some information that we didn't know, but it's not that beneficial. We can live good lives without this information. The people who really want to be apart of our lives would have done whatever it took to be there. Then there's no guarantee that the family we find will want anything to do with us.This one lady found that her loving dad was not her bio dad and her mom would not tell her who was.So her doing the test helped her find her true ethnicity, but it broke her heart and her dad's heart.

Its fairly common that people find out they have half siblings, because their dad cheated. That's really between mom and dad, if they dealt with it privately, and got past it years ago, I don't know that its right for me to drag it out in the open, and cause a lot of anger and hard feelings, possibly in more than one family.

Several very powerful and prominent people, including multiple people who have run for President of the United States, have done these tests. Not one single thing yet has come out saying these people's lives were at risk for having done a test, out of all these years.

It takes 5 weeks for them to receive your DNA plus another 6-8 weeks for them to give your results. It is a long time to wait especially if you’re wanting to know anxiously more about your ancestors and family. It’s been 3/5 weeks for me since I sent my DNA to Ancestry. Already into the 4th week. It costs money to look at others family trees and premium information which can hinder research as much as accepting wrong info.

You can opt-out of subjecting your DNA to further research or the sharing of your information with other parties.
People just have to take the time to read the fine print. If you treat it like the "I have read the terms and conditions" page on other sites then you may not like what you've agreed to down the road. I just took one of these tests and I thought this video was going to make me regret that decision. Like, "What's going to happen now? Was this wrong for me to do?"
This video taught me nothing. 😂

I already had had a DNA test because Spinal muscular atrophy runs in the family, we lost a beautiful little baby who died at 6 months old. I found out I do not carry the gene. I am well aware my genetic information has likely been sold on in this age of Capitalism.
My stupid sister tried to haze me about having a home test because of privacy issues, I didn't bring up the DNA test to see if I carry the spinal muscular atrophy gene, if she can't put things together.
So if you have concerns about say your father and grandfather both dying of thyroid cancer aged 58, and that this may run in the family, get tested, privacy issues are the least of your concerns when the stakes are that high.
You're also then free to research who you are related too historically, but this will take alot of effort and intelligence, you're looking for big unbroken sequences of DNA and an overall high DNA match.
