Dispersed Camping with a Rottweiler Deep in the North Woods.

- This week Tilli and I traveled to Northum Minnesota and found a dispersed campsite in the Chippewa National Forest. I did not see any homes for miles. The closest Walmart is about 70 miles away, and the closest Dollar General is 40 miles away. That is how remote this place is. It was the 4th of July weekend, and we did not see another living sole for two days. This spot was close to perfect. The downfall of this site is probably what keeps it empty. There is no way a trailer would make it, and it's not even close to level. I had to lift the rear of the camper almost a foot just to make it "kind of ok" inside. The payoff was amazing views, peace and quiet, and true remote Minnesota backwoods. Hopefully the flies will settle down soon. The mosquito hatch is over, so they are not as bad as they once were. But the Deerflies have been insane this year. I spoke with a Conversation Officer who said this is the worst he has ever seen them. I'm looking forward to fall. The heat and humidity and suffocating. The temps were in the upper 80's the dew point in the upper 60's. It is heat rash season. lol
I'll see you again next week. Have a wonderful 4th!
Hi Kenny! I've been watching a lot of your videos, and I really enjoy them. I don't think it's selfish to not disclose the coordinates of these places. It's great to see someone taking the principles of Leave No Trace seriously and being a responsible steward of the land. Keeping the location of camping spots undisclosed helps preserve the beauty and integrity of these natural areas. By not sharing (at least publicly) specific locations, it helps prevent overcrowding, minimizes our impact, and protects the ecosystems that make these spots so special. It encourages people to explore and discover their own hidden gems while promoting a sense of adventure and respect for the environment. Kudos to you for prioritizing the long-term preservation of our natural spaces. Keep up the great work!
You said it very well! I'm going to keep this message. That's exactly why I don't put these spots online. I just could express it as well. Thanks for understanding.
Love your videos. Recently subscribed, keep them coming😊
Now that is all a man needs . A good dog , a solid pick-up , and a truck camper.
Sounds like heaven
Shoot! That’s all anyone needs! I’ll take it! 😊 lol
and a good work from home hi-tech job
That would be awesome!
Amen to that!!
Looks like Tilly makes a great camp companion, good thing she’s not as camera shy as Mandy🤣
I agree!!
Gorgeous spot man 🤙🏽
Thanks!
Nice video as always, Kenny.
You do manage to find some great private areas. I would respect your keeping some of those locations to yourself.
It was nice you had a "pal" along on this trip.
I can't help but be curious if the "light colored" blue shirt offered any relief from the horse/deer flies whatsoever.
I hope that it might have or perhaps it might have been a stronger breeze.
If not, I apologize for wasting your time. Those flies sure can put a dent in an otherwise great time.
Thanks for sharing yet another consistently well done video.
"Happy 4th Of July".
Thanks! I think the lite colored clothing helped. I'll continue to put the theory to the test.
I loved this video Kenny. I just lost my Rottweiler last fall. He was my constant companion and would not allow me to go camping without him. It was great to see Tilley join you on this trip. Brought back a lot of memories for me.
Thanks. I'm glad I could bring back some good memories for you. Its really hard to lose a best friend.
bped, I am so sorry for the your loss of your beauty, it's never easy to say goodbye to your loved one. ❤ 🐕🐾
Rotts are wonderful dogs but they have short lifespans. For that reason I would never get one.
@@tommackay7433 Just like German Shepherds. We lost our German Shepherd "Dutchess" at 14 because of Hip Dysplasia and my German Shepherd /Wolf "Daisy" at 9 due to Cancer. Now, we have a Border Collie mix, "Smurfy", she's 17 and I give my husband credit for Smurfy, due to him taking such PHENOMENAL care of her.
It is really such a travesty when we lose such PHENOMENAL members of our family, I know it all too often and it NEVER gets any better.
I completely and sincerely send my condolences and sympathies to anyone and everyone whom has lost their fur babies and non fur babies. ❤
Tilli had so much fun! Thanks for watching her.. You definitely wore her out.. I think she slept 12 straight hours. 😂. I will cherish this video forever ❤.
Ill have to bring her out more often!
Did he share the rest of the Ribeye Mandy? Asking for a friend. 🤠

Yes he did! It was delicious 😋
@@mandib757 ❤️ he's a good man.
@@KennyOfAllTrades I agree with you Kenny! You really should bring Tilli out with you more often.
Tilli was in GREAT hands with Kenny, Mandi, I was very PROUD of Kenny, he's a GREAT DAD!! 🤗 🤗 🤗
Tilli is so precious and I absolutely LOVE her, thank you Mandi for sharing Tilli with us, I so appreciate that!
As I was telling Kenny, I was looking for you, I thought that you were coming out too, well, hopefully, next time!
Take care you three!

Kenny, you have me hooked on your weekly adventures. Just enough information each week to see that you enjoy the time in your camper in Minnesota! Keep them coming!
Thank you Joe. I appreciate that.
Joe, I completely agree with you! Kenny makes the very BEST videos, he's got me hooked too! 🤗 🤗 🤗
Tip on bones, if you wanna give your dog a bone it’s better raw then cooked, cooking a bone makes it more brittle and prone to splinter and cause issues potentially… great relaxing video beautiful spot 🤙🏻🇨🇦
😮 Good point👍🏻🍻
Thanks for the tip! I always heard that is a must with chicken bones. It good to know that stand true for all bones. Thanks for watching.
Hey Kenny, thanks for sharing your weekend. I feel sorry for you having to rough it with only one giant tomahawk steak.😊
Lol, it was ruff.......but I made it back ok.
@@KennyOfAllTrades Good guy Kenny, I knew that you could do it!! 👍👍
I don't know what their talking about. I feel like you're taking us along with you to these great spots when some of us can't get out there. Thanks for your hard work including us. I've done video production since 1980 so I know what you're putting into these videos.
I'm glad you recognize the effort. This means a lot coming from someone in production. It's taken me over two years to figure out what I'm doing, and I'm learning more every week. I'm happy to hear you say that it feels like you are along for the weekend. I try to capture that in the videos. I don't want you to feel like you are watching a guy on UA-cam. I want it to feel like you are there with me.
@@KennyOfAllTrades I know that I feel like I'm there with you Kenny! Your videos are very real and touching! 🤗 🤗 🤗
A trick that I learned that seems to do pretty well is getting a tin/metal lid of some sort, make a small mound of coffee grounds and torch the middle for about 30 seconds-1 minute to get it smoldering. Kept the skeeters away for me
I just saw something like that a few days ago. I will definitely give it a shot!
Could one use say a tin pie plate?
Interesting concept!🍻
@SpykersB any base would work, all that would be suggested is a base that can handle heat so nothing catches fire
@KennyOfAllTrades looking forward to seeing it in a video of yours
Your drone footage is amazing. Thank you!
Thanks! I appreciate the comment
Awe Tilly...those dumb flies. Our rottie-lab loves camping too! We use a mix of peppermint essential oil ( a few drops ) in some almond carrier oil.....rub it in our hands and rub them on our dogs ears and hind haunches......really seems to keep the Deerflies at bay for our girl!!!
That's an awesome suggestion. I'll pick those up and keep them in the camper for her. Thanks!
To me, the worst thing about the flies - deer flies, house flies, black flies, green flies, or horse flies - is that they don't read or follow the labels on the bug repellents. You know the ones, that say they repel flies. Sure they do. But only in their laboratory.
Exactly 💯
What a great trip for us on Independence Day! Thanks for taking us along. Don't mind the haters, they are always out there. Just have another steak and bask in the glory of the wilderness
I love this comment!
Kenny, you pick a beautiful weekend. Awesome spot. Nothing like grilling and chilling. Having man’s best friend with you. Priceless👍🏼
You got that right!
Such a mellow experience, camping with you. I'm glad I found this channel.
That is so nice of you to say! I'm glad you found the channel too. It's nice to have people around who enjoy the laid-back style.
I'am so happy that I found Kenny's channel too, it is the BEST channel on UA-cam! 🤗 🤗 🤗
Tilly is adorable! More Tilly videos! 😊I don't care to ever go to Minnesota in the winter especially! I just love enjoying nature 'virtually' through YT channels like yours! 😊Thanks for sharing!
I agree, more Tilli videos and Mom too of course! Thank you! 🤗 🐕🐾
Enjoyed the video. Great spot. Watching Tilly in the water was funny. Hope you had a great 4th.
Thanks, and I hope you had a safe holiday!
Always a pleasure watching your videos. I'm betting Tilly really enjoyed that steak bone. What, No Veggies? 😂
Can't wait until next week, Stay safe and Keep on Trucking 👍
My wife's favorite dogs were GSDs and Westies, so we have always had at least one of each, forever. Best camping companions ever. Lake camping was always a hoot.
I have visited the shelter a couple of times in the past few months. I'm sure my new buddy will find me when the time is right. Thank you for the comment.
Love your video like always the area was amazing so relaxing that hammock is awesome I could see myself in it ah the small pleasure of life.. love the dog I thing she had a good time swimming in the lake 😄and that steak 🥩 yum 😋 beautiful day great food great companion what else can you ask for .. until your next adventure stay safe stay healthy stay strong my friend ✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼
Thanks Loulou
That was nice! I miss Wisconsin, my dad took us up to Big Chetek lake every year from about 1973 to early 90's, I revisited couple times since. Need to get back up there. That was pretty nice, free camping! Too bad the fish didn't cooperate.
I'll have to do a little exploring in Wisconsin. They have a lot of campsites just like this. In another few months, the bugs will be gone, and the temps will be in the 50s and 60s. It will be heaven on earth.
I'm a tiny bit jealous I can't get into 90% of the places you camp due to the size of my rig, but that is what makes them awesome sites. We will be camping in your neck of the woods in a couple weeks, but it is definitely not your type of camping that we will be doing.
Is long as you are enjoying life! That's all that matters! Safe travels and have fun.
@@KennyOfAllTrades I agree with you Kenny !
Your videos are not boring at all. Very relaxing and calming. You can tell you're a kind person. Thanks for your content.
So nice of you. I'm glad you enjoy the videos.
I agree with you vickitea.
Another great video, Kenny, and your Tomahawk turned out perfect, good change not to wrap in foil and let it set too long! Curious, when you watch a movie, how do you do that--what's your setup in your TC? Sometimes, a movie is just what's needed to top off a relaxing day in the woods! Glad you had Tilli with you, she was great company, I kept expecting the beaver to show back up. Do you plan to bring your rottie along with? Happy 4th and have a great week!
Thanks Doodles. I think letting it rest without wrapping was a good idea too. I smoked it over Hickory and Oak lump charcoal for close to 3 hours. It was amazing!! I'm sorry I didn't say anything about Hanna in my previous videos. I gave an update in a video description a few months back that sadly Hannah passed away. Tilli has been giving me so much attention when I visit Mandi's, I think she somehow knows. Tilli and Hannah have spent a lot of time together over the years, but we don't live together. I have been keeping an eye on the local shelter and been thinking about finding a camping partner. This weekend worked out perfect with Tilli needing someone to watch her. It also gave me an opportunity to travel solo with a dog. I think the time spent in nature was more fulfilling having a partner there. I want to make sure I have enough time to give before getting a dog.
@@KennyOfAllTrades Kenny, I'm so sorry for your loss, I know how difficult it is, I've lost many over the years. I must've missed that sad news. Dogs make wonderful companions, you'll know when the time is right and it's the right dog. Tilli makes a good substitute for the time being!
Nice campsite! My go to was/is Superior National Forest. Found many dispersed campsites via maps. I kinda miss my pickup and topper. Old logging roads were fun places to camp.
For sure, I love Superior. I also spend a lot of time up there. It's awesome to have both the Chippewa and Superior here. I live close to the Chippewa. That's the only reason it shows up on the channel more. Superior is beautiful though. This weekend is supposed to be cool. If it was going to be another hot humid weekend, I would probably head east to the big lake.
Wow! What an awesome spot! Tilli watching that hole made me laugh til I cried. My dogs would’ve watched but, they also would have dug into it, just to stir something up. Excellent weekend, especially for being the 4th. All by yourself. And man’s best friend. Pretty amazing. Take care, safe travels.
That was an awesome weekend. I really appreciate that you have been going back and checking out all the past weekends!
Cute pup. Too bad about the bugs. Did you notice any difference either the bugs and wearing lighter colored clothes?
I think so....I was using deet all weekend. I wasn't completely attacked like last weekend. I'll continue testing out the theory.
What a good way to spend the fourth . That hammock looked inviting
So nice out there 🤠🌵🌲🇺🇸
The second day was beautiful! The wind kept the bugs away. The sky was a beautiful blue, and the birds were singing a song. It was so peaceful.
@@KennyOfAllTrades Sounds so perfect!! 👍👍

Thank you Lisa. I hope you had a safe 4th. Thanks for watching and leaving the comment.
Another beautiful campsite! Good to see Tilli joining you and she scored big time with that bone.
Thanks 👍
Just started watching your channel a few months ago. I really enjoy your camping trips. We live in Alabama and it has been so hot here. We love to go camping.
I'm glad you found the channel. I appreciate the comment! Happy 4th!

Hi Kenny beautiful scenery, so tranquil, the aerial view is magnificent the lake, trees ,Tilly is gorgeous looks like a nice camping buddy thanks for sharing stay safe
Thanks for watching
I couldn't agree more sonia!
Sometimes you need to keep some of those places a secret because sometimes that's the only way they're going to stay as nice as they really are! 😊😊 I love this place. Reminds me of the place I rustic camped by Emily, MN.
Kenny, that was a beautiful campsite that you found that is awesome place, too bad you couldn't catch Any fish
I'm not gonna blame Tilli for that......but......lol
The scenery was enough to recharge the mental batteries.
Tilly is beautiful! I have always loved Rottweilers, but I have 3 Labradors. They would have spent the entire weekend in the lake. People need to find their own hideaways!! Isn't that part of the fun??
Thanks, couldn't agree more.
Very peaceful site. Headed out with the RV tomorrow right after the majority of tourists have gone home. Me the wife and our golden retriever doesn’t get much better than that.
Happy 4th
Have fun!! You got the right idea, the roads were insane on Friday!!! I was driving home from work and there was stop and go traffic from Aitkin all the way to Garrison on 169. I with I had off during the week and worked the weekends.
Thank you once again for a great video! I'm glad I found your channel, I recently traded my truck camper for a travel trailer, but I miss my truck camper. You do a better job of dealing with the bugs than I do. Keep on camping!
Thanks! I appreciate you watching.

Tilly is a heck of a partner. You should bring her more often. I'm looking forward to trying to find some of the sites you've found and maybe some others you haven't. LTD (live the dream) - John
Hey Kenny, I see that you camp in the winter. I am currently in the Philippines but I plan on going back home to Montana for some camping. How cold have you camped before you have to stop using your water and toilet?
I drain the water when temps get in the single digits. It could still be done. I had a heater setup in the basement area before, with supplemental fans keeping a lot of air movement in the basement area. For me, the camper sits in the driveway all week while I'm at work. It was costing too much money. If you have 10 degrees and nice sunny days, it's not that hard to keep water in the tanks. This video was from about a year and a half ago. I go into some of my cold weather tips.

Nice relaxing video. Looks like a good weekend. Thank you for having her on a leash. She wasn't your dog, and things can happen. Says nothing about her training. Only that you were a thoughtful respectful dog sitter.
Agree 100%
You're right. All it takes is one "wascally wabbit" to give chase to and off a dog could go. We have a large coyote population here and they have been known to lure family pets into a chase and then the pack attacks. It's more than obvious that Tilli is very loved and well trained.
Great video Kenny. Thanks for not making your spots public!
Right on, thanks! I'm glad you agree
If they want to find your spots, here’s an idea. Top off the tank, start driving and do it the same way you do. Kenny don’t do their homework for them.
Great answer!
Tilli staring at the hole had me! So cute! Love ur vids and this one was awesome since you had a partner in crime! Lol
She was in the zone!
your camper with that pop out is so roomy inside .. its the only way to go .. great videos really enjoying them
I've had a few people ask to check it out when I'm at the gas station or getting groceries. Everyone is amazed at how much room is inside. I still think it's crazy how much camper a person can fit in a short bed truck. Thanks for watching!

Kenny's videos and his Channel are my favorites! 🤗 🤗 🤗
You got lucky i had several spots marked on my OnX 3 weeks ago when i went up on Saturday morning none of them were open or accessible i was ready for a full 4 days but the entrance was either locked up or impassable checked a couple of campgrounds on my way out one place the camp host had given out the last spot 15 minutes before i got there another was closed for a private event and the last was $90 per night so i spent the whole weekend at home
Thats ruff! I know we have all been there. A few years ago, when I started the channel, I showed more of the driving parts looking for spots. I got to many comments telling me it was boring, and they wanted to see more of the campsite and not the travels looking for them. I almost got skunked on Memorial Day Weekend. I left Friday after work and spent about 6 hours looking for a spot. Everything was taken. I eventually found a spot after dark and started the video Saturday Morning. Thats what makes finding these gems so epic.
Tillie scared your fish off. Nothing like a loyal Rotty! My Daisy is 15 years old.
I’m living vicariously through your channel. I wish so badly we were out camping this week and that we had a trailer because we both have bad backs.
