I found it quite pathetic that the government should decide what to name someone's children.
I don't... if you new what some parents name their kids in some countries, they would thank the existence of that law

@@veganlo9726 Why though? It’s not like it is a 10 name list. It’s a list with hundreds, if not thousands of names and this list is always being updated with new names. And only a really small percentage of those names are used because people still want to use the most common and popular names. This list exists to preserve cultural tradition and to prevent people from naming their kids weird stuff. The law just forbids names that are deemed inappropriate and offensive and that can cause bullying and so on. Even foreign names are allowed if they respect those rules and also respect the portuguese phonetics and orthography. And also this laws dont have effect if at least one of the parents is not portuguese. So yeah, we have a list of allowed names, but it’s not like we dont have choice among thousands of names. And maybe have you thought about culture? We dont want or need other names either. We prefer to maintain our identity. Something a lot of countries are lacking.
