pick pockets, walking at night, car break ins, beeing on your phone? thats like 1 in a scale of 100 of danger. Car break ins occour very rarely, at night just dont go to weird places, oick pockets are everywhere in the world but just go to tourist places and relax to much about your belonguings, the rest of portugal even in lisbon you can leave your stuff and no one is going to rob you, and beeing in your phone? i never never had problems with that. just respect the people and dont be noisy, thats it
Portuguese here.. I lunch at 12:00 on week days close to my workplace, so the video is kinda inaccurate concerning lunch time. Dinner time at 19:00 seems too soon TBH, but I think it could happen (usually at home our dinner time is 20:00 but when going out with friends it is usually 21:00 or 21:30).

The closer you are to Spain you will find people understand Spanish, they prefer not to but can.(More Portugues know Spanish than visa versa) Just like English if you just start blurting it out they will shut down. Instead say "Desculpa (hands over heart with sorrowful look} fala/English or Espanol and then if they hesitate say poco? Unless you are in the interior 75% will acknowledge they can and appreciate you apologizing for not knowing the language.
