What is about this song, I just love it. Sublime guitar solo. Can't believe it was 28 years ago that I listened to it on a walkman the size of a lunchbox walking home from my first job.
Was buying the Long Ryders box set the other day in Bklyn and someone mentioned Green on Red: I have some of Chuck Prophet's solo works, enjoyed 'em, but hadn't thought or heard much/about Green on Red in a long time, but recall them with some fondness from the mid 80s. My memory is going to buy Gas Food Lodging, No Free Lunch EP and later album, all at some ridiculous Long Island NY mom and pop record shop near my high school, it didn't last long, but they did stock a lot of indie releases, new and reissue, and tons of vinyl, so it was sometimes convenient. I would even ' sometimes train into Manhattan to get records downtown that I simply could not get on L.I. Though by 1985 some of the local indie shops were catching up with NYC a bit. LIke, Husker Du you could suddenly find, but not much of The Cramps, and none of things like Scratch Acid, E. Neubaten or Throbbing Gristle. For that, it was NYC for sure! I was actually shocked these local shops even had Green on Red in stock, but I guess they had decent distribution by then. I carried around a huge Panasonic walkman a lot then, as well, but recall hearing this EP only at home on vinyl on my rack system. Remember those? Mine was a Sanyo and I added a TEAC EQ later and Hitachi CD player, and it was sick! They always had the new R.E.M. LPs right up front on days of release (although another local shop, the famous Titus Oaks Records, was MUCH MUCH BETTER and I would go there more often). So I recall buying this EP and taking it home and playing the heck out of it for a few months, especially this tune. I only knew the band from hearing them on college radio: WNYU, WFMU, WFDU Teaneck NJ, et al. The usual suspects! I hope there's a Green on Red box set in the offing, I'll surely be buying that if it ever appears. Another underrated, unsung band. I sadly never got to see GonR live, never got to see Jason and the Scorchers, or The Del Fuegos, but I learned later on to appreciate all of these bands. Drivin' And Cryin' was another good band but I still haven't caught up with them.
Thanks for posting this. Brings back a lot of great memories of my college days ... Turning on to Steve Earle, Jason and the Scorchers, Scruffy The Cat, Da Bodeans, EIEIO, Drivin' amd Cryin' and the Del Fuegos etc. I've been searching for this one awhile.
this songs really gets to me. love it.

I listened to this EP over and over. Great stuff, more people should know how awesome GoR were.

You basically wrote my life as a 16 year-old in 1985 except I was in SoCal.
@@theseaoversand651 Damn, keep missing replies to my posts! Just saw yours. I took all of that stuff for granted back then.
Now..not so much.
I saw them in Athens around 85. One of my favorite shows!
