You're a natural storyteller Vic! I must say I struggle with that, especially for tutorial or educational videos. Plus, I don't often resonate with people's stories about how they got the photo (a thing old men in my niche like to do). I find them so boring. I just want to yell: "Cut to the chase!" So to stop them telling me stories, I don't either. But perhaps I need to reconsider. Cheers!
Thank you. lol. Yeah. I totally get the old men story thing. They could have at least an hour off it 🤣🤣🤣 I think around the education / tutorial content as long as it follows the basic structure it’s still a “story” This is what we’re setting out to do This is how we’re doing it This is the end result
I've spent the past few months rebranding my channel for content I'm going to start making in 2025. Part of that was looking at channels I subscribe to and watch religiously and analyzing why I watch those channels. It was the storytelling. Not the fancy editing, not the high production. Storytelling was the common theme. That's why I watch these channels. Thanks for another great video Vic...have a great weekend 👊🏻
As an elementary school teacher, I totally agree with your points! As soon as I switch from a direct lecture to a story, all the children sit up and start listening. The trick is that there needs to be a challenge or problem that the character (you, the storyteller) must face. People sympathize with the struggle, even if it’s minor. So, instead of teaching a math lesson where I say, “Okay, today we’re learning about adding decimals. Step one…” blah blah blah. I start with a story and a challenge: “Okay, I have $5, and I want to buy two bags of Takis chips. Do I have enough money?” Then the audience (the kids) become engaged and start asking questions like, “Well how much is one bag?” or “Is there sales tax?” The rest of the lesson is exactly the same, but I’ve hooked them with the story and they’re invested in the outcome. And, honestly, the actual outcome doesn’t even matter. It’s the fact that they need to know how it ends that keeps them engaged. (I do have enough money for both bags, by the way 😉)
Thanks for this video Vic. Such a simple concept but not used enough by many struggling creators. I'm trying harder to work on story lines in my videos and I think my next video will be better at that.......Take care, Bluefin.
100% - people want the best camera and then actively search for the best settings. But rarely seek out something like this and then wonder why they’re videos are trash
After watching your video, I feel stupid! I know how to tell a story (or at least I thought I did), but I have been so focused on presenting facts that I have missed the point of storytelling. I know better, but I missed the art of telling a compelling story that will always keep your listener interested. I will be watching some more of your videos soon because I have wasted enough time on boring stories. Thank you so much! This means a lot to me!
In my niche it’s weird. I start my day with the hope of a successful catch. I’ll record videos up to the lead up and then no catch. I don’t have an ending for that video. Unless that’s the ending
Right. I get that. But the fact there’s no catch is a story in itself. Arguably there’s a part that fits in here around why there was no catch. And then that teases into the next video. Not every story needs a happy ending.
Don't know if you are familiar with the Hallmark Channel over there, but I ask my wife more than once "did we already see this Hallmark Holiday show already"?... No we haven't but same story structure and a lot of same actors 😁... But they are making bank 😁. Happy holidays and looking forward to the next story (video 😉)
One area I been working to improve on. Many times I just wing things then I get back and am like this is all useless there is no point to it, just footage with no story. So in the trash it goes. Y New Year’s resolution is to actually plan my videos some and have a story aspect to them. What ai did you use for the clips?
Yeah. 100%. Even a few bullet points or a very rough idea. Spending a small bit of time on this is better than having to dump everything. AI wise combo of midjourney and runway ml

@@VicBarry Thank you so much Vic. I’ve been overthinking this!
No worries. I’m super guilty of it myself to be honest 🤣

Magic words here “they need to know how it ends” - Great stuff. Thank you for watching.

Well done man, way to step up your videos, love the effects :)
Glad you like them!
Good stuff, Vic. Yep, sometimes we tend to way overthink our content and loose the story into a garbled mess.
Exactly!
Thanks for sharing Vic always educating us 😊
My pleasure!
Thanks Vic. Great stuff again.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks Pete

You got this! Thanks for taking the time to watch! Appreciate the kind words!!
I have been looking for something like this to show my students. Thank you.
Hey Robin, awesome. Let me know how it works out 🙏
This is helpful ❤I’ve just been uploading clips but it would definitely be nice if I had added context 😮
Glad it was helpful!
