My wife passed away back in 2017 and I decided to keep working instead of retiring. I watched two individuals regularly Peter Gregg and Vic Barry. Unfortunately we cannot do the things like in the past but pick yourself up and move forward. Set Your Goal and then do it. I am glad your wife is improving and hope the best health for Her and You and Your Family. You have shared a lot and I plus others that watch Your channel agree that whatever You decide to do it will be for the best. Take it Slow and Enjoy Life. Vic things do past and hopefully looking back just have a laugh. Best Wishes for You and Your Family! Cheers!

I’m in the same boat. I stopped posting videos one year ago to focus on my health which deteriorated ever since I started my UA-cam channel in 2011 especially given the channel’s focus (beer and bbq). I figured that I’d lose some weight, drop my cholesterol, get in shape, get better sleep, take a mental break, take care of some things I’ve been putting off, and get back to it again “soon”. But, after several months and a home remodel later, I lost nearly complete interest in getting back into making videos. I’m feeling so much better today without it and have found better uses for my time especially given how UA-cam has changed for the worse over the past several years making even less worthwhile. I don’t blame you at all for feeling that way.
Hey Vic - goodness i love your honestly and rawness. I’m sorry to hear about the better half, you know it’s just a test - don’t give up, I’ve special skills and will come and find you 😂, I really enjoy your content. All the very best to you and yours, Vic. Sharing our mental health struggles is important, just as sharing was important during the pandemic. Good on you for your honesty, mate.
Maaaaan… my wife had the same accident 2018 right before we renovated and moved into our house. But it was so severe that she wasn’t able to walk for almost 3 months. She still has 14 screws in her ankle but now she is fine again. But I understand that this was a tough time. It was a hard one for me too. We quit our apartment, therefore had a fix due date of moving out and our house was NOT ready for living in it. Aside from getting the house on track, my wife wasn’t able to do anything… glad that this is a thing of the past now and I am also glad that your wife is recovering too! About that UA-cam thing, I feel you too man! I know channels that started the same time, in the same genre as me and one of them surpassed the 100k this month… I did not even reach the 3k up until now. It is hard to push through especially with a normal day job, but my only hope is that one day, everything will be worth it! Best wishes, hope to see you again soon and for a lot of more years and have a nice start in a new week!
Wishing her a complete recovery and a quick return to normality for you and your family! These little unexpected events can really pull you out of your rhythm and stress us all.
Wishing her a speedy recovery. I've struggled with motivation and mental health issues over the past 4 years and everything suffered. My relationships, my UA-cam channel. But after a summer vacation in July I suddenly realized that everything had to change in my life. I've made a plan for life, and a new direction for my channel and I'm feeling much happier and motivated. Life happens, shit happens. Do what makes you happy, do what fits your circumstances. Personally, I love your content, we'll all be here when your ready. Sending good thoughts your way Vic.
Vic, it could have been worse- it actually could have been you with the shattered leg and ankle , not your poor wife! Trust me, I know from experience as I broke both my ankles three days before I was due to travel to Ireland for an extensive stay. There is no hopping around on crutches when both your ankles are out commission and I didn't have a supportive spouse to clean the house, make my meals, etc.. It was a thoroughly miserable time for me but you know what helped me a lot - watching You Tube videos. They kept me sane and more informed about actually coping with having two broken ankles than my doctors did! The whole experience turned out to be a valuable life's lesson in how to deal with a sudden loss of freedom and autonomy. The knowledge that I could adapt to an unexpected life's curve ball and not fall apart was very useful to draw upon when Covid turned all our lives upside down just two years later. Draw upon your inner strengths, Vic and carry on.
Wishing your wife a full and speedy recovery and fair play for being there to support her and your family - says a lot about your priorities and your character which makes me like this channel even more. Keep it real man. You be you and do what you need to do. It’s all good. 🇮🇪
I don't think you've gone wrong Vic! You have done amazing with your channel. I work on several channels and not one has gone as far as yours. Keep strong mate, keep going and wishing your wife a speedy recovery.
Sending you best wishes Vic. I had a trip last year with my daughter with chest pains to the CUH. 24 hours sitting on a chair waiting for her to be seen. We left in the end and went to the Mercy and that place was no better. We pay 4K a year for private health care and yet we ended up with her in agony for 36 hours waiting to be seen by a doctor.. In the end all she needed was antibiotics for a chest infection. But the whole experience has left me in genuine fear of getting old in Ireland.
Vic I’m glad your wife is in the mend. Having just watched my mother go through cancer only to come the other side and find out that some of the complications she had have left her with epilepsy, I can tell you that after the darkness is a blinding light that makes all the darkness so worth it. Whenever you’re ready to come back we will be here. I love your content and it’s inspired me to really start documenting more of my life so that you can looks back and remember but share with friends and family who are far away.
Hang in there Vic. Just think of the worst day you've ever had.....you got through it then....you got this now and will get through it also. Take care of you and family first. Viewers will be here after. This UA-cam venture for all us creators is hard to figure out but we continue to try. That is all we can do with all the changes. I really enjoy all your content......Take care, Bluefin.
Sorry I caught this so late. So sorry to hear of your struggles. As you know, I have over 160k subs. And I'm not better than you. In fact, you're 10X better in front of the camera than me. I wish I could give you better advice than to say, just keep going. You will find your thing. You're good. You just are. I don't even care that much about camera gear anymore and I still watch your videos. All the best. XOXO - And not to throw this in your face but we will be getting our Thanksgiving meat from Lewis BBQ this year. :)
Thanks buddy. Appreciate the support and kind words. If I can find some long term consistency that’ll be a major win in my book. I’ll start there 🤣 Totally not jealous of Lewis Bbq 🤬totally not at all.
From someone with about 6000 subs and a lack of motivation, I’d say keep at it. 👍🏻 Lean into your wit if you can that’s your strength. I get it though.

Sorry i dont mean it in a promoting way, i have no links to that stuff on this account. I lost all passion for all my hobbies and at the min i feel like im just getting by. I do also feel my priorities have shifted, im irish and from dublin and all i just want to do everything in the world and see what i can see, as the diabeties has started to effected my eyes. its ok its an early stage so i wana see and experience everything else with my misses. its hard but just take one day at a time, your passions will change and your energy will return.
Thoughts to you and your family. Hoping your wife has a speedy recovery as well! For what its worth, your channel is fantastic and you have a very genuine and great personality. I hope you continue here on UA-cam!
I hit a wall some time back Vic. I was making videos, almost passing out between takes and taking all day to set up. Tired. I suffered from Atrial Fibrillation and ended up in and out of hospital for some time, only to come home and make videos while passing out again! Stupid. Now, I’ve had an operation to get the heart beating more regularly and am much better, but UA-cam has become way less important to me. It can take your life over (in my case to the point of stupidity) so I’m letting it do whatever it wants to do. I make videos when I feel like it only. My best subscribers have hung in there……
You provide great value to your viewers, making insightful content without the normal fluff you get on UA-cam. As long as it's still something you want to do, KEEP GOING! People will understand if the content needs to come a bit slower while your wife recovers. All the best
I'm going through something similar on my tech channel. I spend so much time working on it and it's not paying off. Sometimes I just want to quit so I can have my life back but also at the same time I don't want quitting to be a regret. I'll spend all the energy I can on making videos, but time is something I just don't have an unlimited amount of.
You have a great channel with great content. It’s all just a a bump in the road brother. The most important thing is you sound like you’ve picked yourself up and are ready to get back in the fight. You got this brother. 👍🏻💪🏻. Prayers for a speedy and full recovery for your wife. 🙏.
Vic, this was a fantastic video. I agree with what you were saying about the YT/camera space being in a transitional place right now, but that observation is another example of how you are a wise voice in that space. I think we’re about the same age and I enjoy how you are still excited about new cameras but mature enough to know that these new toys come at prices that need to be considered. Your videos are more like consultations with an expert than slick pitch-jobbies from an influencer. If you have lost the lust for it, so be it, perhaps a rest is in order and a refocus (no pun intended) is necessary. You are 💯% right that you don’t owe us anything (including an explanation). I for one was almost embarrassed that your explained absence was almost apologetic when no one has the right to expect an apology from someone who provides freely such valuable consultation (I hate the term “content” to describe something like this), and whose first responsibility is to his family. Best wishes to your wife and family for her continued improvement and congratulations on getting the house looking tip-top, although I bet that was the one part of the video that your wife didn’t appreciate 😉👍
It's the headspace that is the biggest challenge. I alternate between 'I'm doing this' and 'what the hell am I thinking'. Well being is everything, it's OK to move on ... if it's time. But I hope you don't I've learnt a lot! Best wishes to you and your wife.
Vic understand how you feel. Been primary care giver for two family members (not at sametime) for last 6 of 8 years. Just decided to retire from full time job because of stress and my health. Remember to take time for yourself.
life is the most important thing always Vic. never be afraid to speak on anything affecting it, EVER! as always, your fans will always support you whatever it should be
I’m glad to hear your wife is doing better. I appreciate your vulnerability with this video and I understand the lack of motivation. Don’t worry about us, if you need a break, and decide to switch things up, or if you decide to just go life your life and do other things that motivate you, we will always be here to support you ❤
@ you are very welcome. I have nowhere near the subscribers or pressures you have but often find when life gets hectic, tough, stressful it is hard to make videos. I essentially took a 2 month break when I purchased my house. At a time where I was trying to grow, luckily my subscribers are still here and yours will be too! Rest up, recharge and when the tough times pass, get back to it!
Chin up mate! Worse things happen at sea!! Do what you do best! Get shooting! It’s hard when life takes a 5hit on you but mate! Slapping you here but you need to press on! We all have times like this and yeah, it’s hard making content but….when you do drop a video, it feels good…so get out there with your cameras and get making :)
Keep going Vic! Post when you want. Post whatever moves you. Focus on your art and not feeding the algorithm. Let UA-cam be an escape from it all. Take care and all the best
Vic! You're channel has only been a joy to watch. You're the guy that at the end of video that says" Keep on Fighting!". That got me started and going with my UA-cam channel. And my stuff is much more boring that yours. #keeponfightingvic
I follow your videos and you do them so well. I do enjoy them as your take is sound and professionally done. There are so many ejits doing reviews that a) Dont' know what they are talking about and b) Talk far to much drivel. I'm sorry to hear what happened I hope everyhing comes good soon. Keep doing what you do well. Take care
I never comment but I always appreciate your videos. I hope you ll find your motivation back, but it also doesn't have to be felt like a burden? Just make the videos you want to make :) and most important, I hope your wife will get better soon.
Vic, here’s an idea, you have huge amounts of knowledge about UA-cam content and editing, why not make a course ? A small commission from every sale would be greatly appreciated !😂😂
Just wanted to say keep on digging in. I just found your channel as it popped into my feed when I got interested in maybe grabbing the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 to use with my brand new UA-cam channel. Love the Irish accent and your addictive humor. (Follow me Osmo). I subbed and will be around to watch as you make it through this rough patch. Hope the wife recovers well and you get your groove back. Thanks!
I am not sure if this will be helpful to you. Just want you to know that I am seventy years old - I have just begun to learn about UA-cam and you have taught me a great deal that I am very grateful for. I have my reasons to do this channel and I have not yet even put up a Video. I have a studio and I use Pocket 3 yet I have not filmed anything outside. You have taught me how to use it and you have taught me how I should speak into the Camera and much more. My daughter died two years ago she was 36 and it was sudden. I have been lost as I loved her more than life itself. I will be using this chanell for my work. I understand how when everything goes wrong it can really go wrong, I understand betrayal, and loss as well as feeling that I do not want to go on. However, I force myself to try each day and I am finding that little by little I am making progress - in fact I noticed that a goal is forming before me ( though I am 70). There is nobody to help me navigate all this tech - I am learning myself from people like you and I like your presentations a lot. I would like to make a suggestion - remain calm, be at peace with yourself and take your time. I pray also and I noticed that during my journey I have discovered a lot about myself - some of it is nice and some not so nice. Be brave and take your journey, do not over think and you will come out the other end. I do not know what the other circumstances are that is affecting your life - whatever it is - it will pass. I wish I had you here in Kerry - but I have no money and that is that. However, you have lots to offer, have a little respect for yourself and lift the thread we only have today - and I may I finish by saying that there is a God there also and He always listens. Be at peace - I pray your wife will make a complete recovery quickly and I pray also that God will lighten your hearts.
Hi Brendan, firstly so sorry for your loss. Thank you for the kind words. Really appreciate the time you took to write this lovely comment. Glad these videos are helping you learn. This is the way. You’re doing it the right way. Learning something new by yourself is a super rewarding experience. And everybody starts at zero. Best of luck in the journey. 🙏

Family, friendship, and health are the only things that (should) matter. The rest is just noise. Take care and be well.
Vic understand how you feel. Been primary care giver for two family members (not at sametime) for last 6 of 8 years. Just decided to retire from full time job because of stress and my health. Remember to take time for yourself.
Thank you.
your beard looking good tho
life is the most important thing always Vic. never be afraid to speak on anything affecting it, EVER!
as always, your fans will always support you whatever it should be
Thanks buddy 🔥
All the best Vic!
Thanks John
Glad to hear the wife on the mend hope you bounce back soon Vic. Take care dude 😊
Thank you
I’m glad to hear your wife is doing better. I appreciate your vulnerability with this video and I understand the lack of motivation. Don’t worry about us, if you need a break, and decide to switch things up, or if you decide to just go life your life and do other things that motivate you, we will always be here to support you ❤
I appreciate that 🙏
Hang in there! Do whatever still gives you joy and happiness!
❤
I would say that is a damn good reason to not be posting. Glad she is on the mend and make sure you take care of yourself as well!
Thank you
@ you are very welcome.
Thank you 🙏
I'd say a bit of self care might be in order there Vic.
1000% agreed. Kinda trying to find space for that. But it should be a priority 😔
Hope it will be fine soon 👍🙂
Thank you. Definitely rounded the corner so ramping things up
Vic! You're channel has only been a joy to watch. You're the guy that at the end of video that says" Keep on Fighting!". That got me started and going with my UA-cam channel. And my stuff is much more boring that yours. #keeponfightingvic
Ha! No way! Thanks so much for that :) Really appreciate the kind words!
Chin up, Vic ✊
vic u a champ
Your wife is lucky to have a supportive husband
Ha. Thanks Bob. I’m sure at this stage she’s had enough of me 🤣
@VicBarry 😊
Take care
Wow, thank you!
Wow, thank you!
I never comment but I always appreciate your videos. I hope you ll find your motivation back, but it also doesn't have to be felt like a burden? Just make the videos you want to make :) and most important, I hope your wife will get better soon.
I appreciate that!
PS…Man hug!!
Vic, here’s an idea, you have huge amounts of knowledge about UA-cam content and editing, why not make a course ? A small commission from every sale would be greatly appreciated !😂😂
Hey David. Nice one. Actually it’s Something I’ve been working on for over a year (2 different courses actually) but been dragged away continuously 😅
@@VicBarry Thank you Vic- we pray your wife and family get well and settled and that you will be able to gently get back to feeling excited about your great input here on UA-cam. Take care of yourself.
