How to plug a tire in 5 minutes. This DIY video walks through the process and basics of plugging a tire. It focuses on things you should be aware of when plugging your own tire. Always consult a mechanic or a tire specialist if you have concerns/questions about your tires. This method has been very successful for me over the past 20+ years.
I usually don’t use the cement that comes in plug kits, mainly because I never have it handy and it seems to flake off over time, but you could coat the rubbery stick with cement right before you patch it for extra security.
Remember, check if you paid for lifetime road hazard when you bought your tires as you may be able to get a replacement tire or plugged for free.
    Here's some plug kits online:

I’m 72 years old. I have plugged my tires since I was in my 20s most always with it on the car, I have seen where they call it a temporary fix. I have never had any problems with plugging a tire. No leaks. I have used a drill to enlarge a hole a tad if it’s to small to work with but rarely. For me it’s a permanent fix. The way liability is today maybe they have to put the temporary thing in .

Tires don't last forever, so all fixes are temporary.

@@MrWickCOD That's true about cars to an extent but you can maintain and care for a car and keep it in great condition. However tires just wear down over time.

I believe what they mean by temporary fix is you plug until it can be patched on the inside.. when I say for me it’s permanent is the plug works until the tires are worn out and replaced.

I used a plug for the first time last year on my rear motorcycle tire. Since it was possible I used a drill and the appropriate bit. I had a similar good experience but I realize the reaming of the hole may be quite a challenge on a motorcycle on the side of the road. I used a little of the cement in my kit on the reaming tool and on the plug to help things move a little easier. I also folded the plug ends inward upon insertion and that helped make it easier. Good video. Thanks.

Eh Ive plugged closer to the sidewall MANY times and it lasted longer than the tread on a tire. How I learned to patch myself because I thought that was a load of bs, its totally patchable on ANY tread of the tire.
Edit: you didnt even use rubber cement..

I’ve gotten closer to the sidewall in the tread too and it’s been fine. I rarely use cement, plus it flakes off over time, I only use it if the hole isn’t round or looks questionable, which usually needs a new tire.

i did mine today, but when i went to pull it out the plug came back with it. 🤣. And it did this 3 times 😅. But on 4th time i figured i push it in just a little more then before and then it worked. Then put air in, drove it immediately after and i guess it wasnt perfectly sealed and it lost like 2 psi from when i put air in. Got home refilled air the 2 psi that excaped and checjed pressure 2 hours later and it was good and didnt leak anymore air. By the way did this with tire still on car, and my sports car is super low to ground so only had room for one arm and not a lot of room to leverage pushing in or pulling out. So thats why i think i had so many little problems. But its totally possible to do it with tire on car. If your okay with some minor issues due to not being able to leverage your muscle strength. 🤣✌️

So the sticky thing wont come out? Is it a temporary fix or will the sticky thing last the rest of the tyre's life?

I plug my tires as well...Just so you know...once that tire has a plug in it even if it works, You cannot get that tire repaired anyplace if something else happens to it. Discount tire refuses to touch it as they want to sell you a new tire.

Dude you are the man. I did this today. Now what are your thoughts on doing this on a 17 year old Continental tire with lots of tread? Also Nail Is in between outer tread contact points.

    • @Benjihuff
      @Benjihuff  9 місяців тому +1

17 years is getting pretty old. if the rubber is starting to dry rot or crack, I’d definitely try to replace the tire if you have the means.

Well its more about experimentation. I like to test the limits of good quality tires on my farm. You know I had 33x12.50 Michelins on a Bronco for 33 years until the first one blew. The other 3 are still holding air to this day. They are from 1986.
The Continental tire was a spare when I got it, protected in the trunk. @@Benjihuff

Isn't it always funny that whenever I get a nail, screw, or whatever in my tire, it's always in that shoulder area.
    Funny thing, fate.

The word you are looking for for is TYRE, tire on the other hand is when a person is getting exhausted they begin to tire.

    • @holidayrap

"tire" is the American way of spelling. "tyre" is the UK. They are both acceptable.

    • @sirgalah561

      Tire is American spelling..
      Tyre is English/Australian spelling...
No need to nitpick we know what he means..
