The Mars Volta was an American progressive rock band from El Paso, Texas, formed in 2001. The band's final lineup consisted of Omar Rodríguez-López (guitar, producer, direction), Cedric Bixler-Zavala (vocals, lyrics), Juan Alderete (bass), Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez (keyboards, percussion) and Deantoni Parks (drums). The band formed following the break-up of Rodriguez-Lopez and Bixler-Zavala's previous band, At the Drive-In. They are known for their energetic live shows and their concept albums.
In 2008, they were named "Best Prog-Rock Band" by Rolling Stone magazine.[7]
In September 2012, it was announced that The Mars Volta had entered a hiatus, with Rodríguez-López and Parks forming a new project, Bosnian Rainbows.[8] Four months later, the band announced their breakup.[9] Bixler-Zavala and Alderete subsequently formed a new band, Zavalaz.

YOU GUYS SHOULD COME BACK!!!! PLEASE!!!
legendary stuff! to me it's as impactful on music as zep
Its funny I came from Zeppelin and moved onto Mars in high school
I was here!
Goddamn they are FEELING it
Ok, this is really good because there's not enough stuff of MV with Jon Theodore around......
theodore estaba re duro, tocó como nunca antes
Trippy...
This song is ridiculously hard to play on drums and is physically demanding. Love this era of TMV w/ Jon Theodore. This song has one of the best breakdowns too. RIP Ikey Owens... after him and Jon left this band went down hill imo when Pridgeon came in on drums and they started adding unnecessary members and instruments. I get that they were trying to evolve their sound and band but I thought they made some of their best music as a stripped down 5 piece with Eva Gardner on bass and with Juan Alderette. They sounded huge and amazing live as a 5 piece. So much energy and I was a huge fan of the whole jam band vibe too when I got to see them live back in 2004.
I always wonder what Cedric is on at their shows...
ecstacy or some kind of meth
Damn crack?
(I wanted to reply to 'bslz65' on the same topic but youtube won't let me...) Jeremy died around six months before they played here - he died a few months before Deloused was released, June, and this was in August. Anyway, they gave up hard drugs after J's death and even accounting for time taken to stop I'd imagine O and C weren't still taking hard drugs (although C at least still smoked weed until 2011-12).
Yea that would explain he's voice on live shows by the time notourniquet was released...
I'd be surprised if they weren't at least doing psychedelics at some point while they were doing TMV
vocalist is irritating as shit, out 70% of the time.
thats weird because 90% of the time he has sounded amazing for me
that's because you're tone deaf.
Damn that was 2 years ago...
@@DeadeyesX311 lo domaste👊👊👊😎
