Not that it isn't impressive I've just gotten so used to doing it I guess and am surrounded by people who can do it so I forget sometimes that it's kind of a special skill to have, thanks for making me realise that lol
@@butasimpleidiotwizard my grandma could look at an outfit (catalog, glance in a store/on a person) and make it and I picked up a less stellar version of that skill (I can tell the almost exact shapes I need to make, but getting anything to fit my weird body is a different matter altogether😂😅) so I forget as well that others can't do what to me feels logical/simple. Anyone can do it. It's just practice. As long as there is a decent, clear picture: just look for seams and darts (especially on the chest). You just draw those lines within the general shape. The Wheel of the Sewing Machine turns, and stitches come and pass, making seams that join pieces. Pieces form into clothes, and even those clothes become outfits before the machine that gave them birth sews again. In one Age, called the First Age by some, an Age long past, an Age yet to come, inspiration rose in mind of a UA-camr seamstress. It was not the beginning - there are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of the Sewing Machine - but it was _a_ beginning.
Honestly, from what I've heard, the wheel of time refers to a loom that continuously weaves the fabric of time over and over again, so the fabric and cloth metaphors are quite fitting.
I still can't believe how much your editing style has changed and evolved through the years, you've truly mastered an editing and filming style that will absolutely capture new audiences, and I can't wait to see all the new people streaming towards your channel to be captured by your amazing work.
Very true, I also use my hair to store everything from pens to marking chalk to measuring tapes and ribbons laid over my hair pin. Even when I have pockets, it is NEVER ENOUGH
"For those who are here for the vibes, and watch a dress magically appear before your eyes..." I am a 20 yo guy that has no interest in historic fashion or sowing, yet I watch all your content with joy. Your videos made me appreciate the craftmanship in clothing and tailoring, and even inspired me to start knitting (I know, quite a stretch from dressmaking). Thank you, and keep being you!
Don't be so sure tat you won't end up garment making. I also started out as a knitter - longer ago than you've been alive, but even so, it turns out I can sew too. And I enjoy it.
Not a stretch at all! I learned a huge amount about garment construction from knitting sweaters, socks, and baby clothes. Welcome to the crafting world, Bram. We appreciate makers of all kinds! If you ever need/want knitting content, I’d be happy to recommend a channel or two.
I noticed that other comments have mentioned this, so mine is just for emphasis. Bernadette Banner has combined the historical with the technical and succeeded in providing a fascinating channel, a lesson program online and now a book. While I am here for the mood and artistry of sewing, it has given me the tiny bit of courage to actually change a zipper in a thrifted jacket and add a decorative closure to a blouse. So thank you Bernadette Banner.❤️
The designers for this show actually shops the fabrics in fabrics wholesale store in Czech I work for. I asked one of them and there goes tons and tons of dying and texture manipulations and so on for the garments in the show. The lady that does that for them is pure magician when it comes to that craft, so honestly I'd just give up on that aspect of expectation to match the show. :D
@@iangrissett9203 Yeah. They for sure are buying stuff also somewhere else so I can't tell for everything, but tons from us. Sometimes it's funny when they need to buy something again and they bring the swatch already dyed and designed so it's hard to find the original fabric. :D But the team is super nice and they make as much as they can from natural fabrics and dye with Dylon if someone's interested. :]
"I don't feel like Moiraine would be lining her clothes in black." As a massive nerd for these books since the 90s, all I can say is OMG YOU HAVE NO IDEA.
The cinematography, the editing and the teasing... You've just produced the Infinity Wars of sewing videos... I can't wait to see what's coming in the next part!
i love how as soon as something captures her imagination and passion, bernadette completely ignores the list of sewing projects she has already in the queue in favor of her new passion. This is how you prevent burnout, she truly demonstrates the motto “follow your heart” and its really beautiful to see.
The wheel of time costuming and time period is super interesting because the world went through a 'Breaking' so essentially it used to be more modern and then devolved, and i find some of the clothing reflects that really well - its not really medieval given the designs can be more modern/ scifi-esque but the materials are from a devolved world... Hence late 17th century/ weird time period mashups
Ive always wondered bout that (havnt read the books yet) its like 1000s of years since the breaking? Fashion has changed a lot in that time, so i dont really know how i feel bout the way ppl points out how "modern" some parts are as a lore-thing.
@@bjornk14 its been almost 3000 years since the breaking, which was a 300-year long apocalypse, basically. So pre-Breaking, magic users had far more power, there were artefacts/ technology we dont know how to use now, and history of that time is almost entirely lost.
I keep telling people, it’s not a fantasy series, it’s a post apocalyptic sword and sorcery sci-fi series in a world that’s been through multiple apocalypses
14:30 Yes. This. All of this. Leather is useful for things which need to last a long time, but not for throwaway objects. But it IS more sustainable than pleather and polyurethane versions for things which you actually will wear longterm. As always, I love watching your videos and seeing the amazing process of your work. I will also have to look for your book now.
I've started putting together Moiraine's travelling outfit and you looking at that sleeve at the beginning was very familiar! Okay, it's basically a circle cloak. Oh, no, it's got a built in scarf thing. Which goes around the back like a giant collar to make the strangest hood ever? And then what happens to that piece on the other side? And, wait, there are no seams on the front, but there are seams at the top back so the front piece goes over her shoulders like an apron?? Also your reasoning for the decision on the lining was just *chef kiss*. When I got to episode six I realised that I probably should have guessed they were going there from the first episode when she put on her leather suspenders...!
@@bernadettebanner There are these special behind-the-scenes about the costumes! ua-cam.com/video/BVpWkeEuUgE/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/AtzKvbsHmwU/v-deo.html
The hidden zipper must have been a concession the costume department did for the show. I've read the series several times and only recall references to buttons... never zippers. I love what you're doing and can't wait to see the finished product!
Maybe in the show's turning of the wheel the White Tower salvaged a ter'angreal that manufacturers zippers, instead of the one that makes warder cloaks.
@@jamiecare1042 the books do have technology that comes later than Elias Howe's "Automatic, Continuous Clothing Closure," which is basically the zipper, so the technology is entirely possible in the WoT world. But it'd be one of the more recent things. Tech is all over the place in WoT.
One option for the jacket could be a quilted version. The quilting will allow for sculpture and texture. You'll also be able to use cotton and wools for the materials.
I actually SQUEALED when you mentioned your research about Jordan's statement regarding 17th century level technology! The dress designs that ate described in the book lean Elizabethan (in my mind, wide square neck, full split skirt) for one country and more fantastical for other areas but I would love to re- examine the descriptions and try to match them to some our current history's fashion, rather than the very "ren faire" ideas a lot of the fandom had in the 1990s/2000s. I'm SO EXCITED to watch this project!!
Having gotten into the Wheel of Time almost two decades ago, seeing the amount of love this series is getting now waters my crops and clears my skin. I was so hype to see Bernadette tackle Third Age clothing and this video is as amazing as always!
I was so excited to hear about the book, I ordered one immediately - only to find out when I told my husband, that he had ordered one for me for Mother's Day gift. This is a lovely man who gets it.
Perhaps “paper leather” or heavy waxed cotton or wool could be options for the bolero? I haven’t worked with either in a context quite similar to this but might be worth looking into🤔 💙 I adore this gown and would really like to make a slightly more ‘modern’ version, because I would like to wear it all the time please!
Ooh, waxed cotton would be fabulous! I came down to comment that maybe cork would work, but waxed cotton would be possibly better. If it crazes as you see you can always remove the crazing for final shots with a hairdryer.
I often forget that Bernadette did more than just historical period wear and this project is definitely paying homage to her theatrical roots! So excited to see more!
I love this so much! Robert Jordan said in an interview that I can’t seem to find right now that the dresses in the Wheel of Time world button up the back (references to maids “doing the buttons” did occur in the books on occasion). They obviously didn’t do that for the show, but it might be something to keep in mind if you, or anyone, wants to attempt another WoT garment.
I love that Bernadette is basically doing Cosplay here. This makes me so happy. I've been cosplaying for 10+ years myself, and am taking my first stepst into historical dress this year. So seeing kind of the reverse of this is really exciting to me. I'm really looking forward to the next video 🙂
Who else would hunt all over London to get THE fabric and then do it all by hand like an ancient royal dress? This will be so interesting! The little sleeve trick reminds me of Kimono sleeves, and will come in very handy. Also, I absolutely need this book!!
Omg, Bernadette, a BOOK by you?!?!?! Dreams do come true! I don't usually comment much here because I'm more a wanna be sewer than an actual one. But I have to get your book! Congratulations to writing it! Happy new year! Update : now having watched the entire video - this is so amazing, I love Moiraines character, she is my favorite and although I didn't like most changes from book to show, she is jut the best. Love her dress, can't wait to see the final dress you make. Will you present it with you as Moiraine Sedai? Cos if yes, it would be beyond wonderful!
I was fresh off The Witcher season 2 and my mum pretty much strong armed me into The Wheel of Time and now I learned how to do Egwene’s braid, we both own the books, me in English she in Spanish and she is eyeing me like she knows I am THIS close to start hunting for a long blue dress (she’s made me some amazing clothes in her spare time but I’ve already got her onto a Geralt of Rivia black shirt plus her own knitting projects and if I ask for more she may chuck me off a window). It’s like she knows I spent almost a year looking for a long blue wool coat after watching S1 of A Discovery of Witches… and I found it *evil laughter* Holy cat mittens 23 fabric shops? Mum would lose her whole mind, the son of one of her friends went to Zambia for work and he brought her back some fabrics at her request, if we ever go to London I have to take her here. ETA: I adore the music you’ve put in this video. So so good.
It’s so weird to hear people casually mention Aes Sedai online :) It’s the books of my early teens that I would never ever imagined to have made into series. Love the project, Bernadette.
This gown is looking AMAZING!! I make bags by trade, and one of the leather alternatives I use is waxed canvas. The canvas is usually sturdy cotton and it tends to patina similarly to leather.
Moiraine had some of the best costumes in the series. I can't wait to see the completed project. Also, there is a good chance that the fabric for her dress was custom dyed, so they might have used two different silks for the bodice and the skirt and just dyed them to match.
Terrific pick of a project. That dress was its own character in those scenes! I watched a “Making-of” show on the costuming, and they showed some detail about how they put together the Bolero. Wow. The details on these costumes was amazing. Am really looking forward to your part Two!
110% here for the vibes. I am too clumsy and hamfisted to even begin to attempt sewing. But listening to anyone talk about something they are passionate about is always a joy.
"For those you you who are just here for the vibes..." Yeah, I'd love to be able to make these things, but I realise that learning proper sowing skills is a lot of work, and I have too many projects going on anyway. Just working on improving the skills that I do have takes a lot of time. But I like watching your videos! It's great to watch skilled people do their thing. (And of course the way you present it, and your contagious joy.)
I've been obsessed with The Wheel of Time series since middle school and now as an adult seeing someone I admire recreate Moiraine Sedai's gown is mind-blowing. I'm so excited to see how it turns out!!
My dad is a HUGE fan of the book series and loved the tv series. So I’m used to hearing his get hype about the characters and all. Seeing you get so hype and just drop everything start a project hit home and filled me with joy. Also that ‘next time’ trailer absolutely sent me, and I’m waiting with baited breath for next week.
I just wanted to say that as someone who, like most dyslexic people, can easily visualize things 3 dimensionally, it’s so cool to see the process of pattern making. Especially when they’re laid out like at 10:45 where I can see what part goes where and the shape their gonna make. It’s all just so beautifully done and I love it! Great work as always!
The fabric search is giving me war flashbacks - I have previously had to track down a fabric all the way to the supplier and finding out what other stores they sold it to that might still have some. Luckily in my case people were super nice and helpful and I eventually found my perfect fabric, although I paid almost the same in shipping as I did for the actual fabric 😂 worth it in the end! I hope you were able to find yours!
Dear God, this was so thrilling with the epic music - I am blown away. I am just fine with "minimal" editing 'cause I am here for the sewing. And today I got a movie. With a cliffhanger. Can't wait to see part 2 🤩
One thing right off the bat that I just realized and might go unnoticed or underappreciated is how Bernadette takes time to make shots of her putting on an apron, stoving away scissors, tying/fastening the apron etc; while also filming her work on projects that are already not easy in and of themselves. I know absolutely nothing about fashion and tailoring, ...or about cinematography ... But the end result looks great and I can't imagine how much hard work must go into these videos. Well done!
I am not a person that sews historical clothing, but have ALWAYS been fascinated by it. It was what drew me to your channel to start with. Seeing you sew, is just a beautiful side benefit, along with EVERYTHING else you do. Will be ordering your book, because I do sew a smidge, and when I do, it is by hand. Always love your uploads.
Okay, 1st of all I love the music choices for this video. Also the cinematography is gorgeous. This feels like you are taking us along on an adventure. Your excitement at this reconstruction is contagious. I can't wait to see what comes next.
I'm usually a quiet fan, the kind that enjoys watching whatever you're up to and is unbelievably cheerful when you update, as a general rule. But this time you're actually making me insanely jealous and actually wishing I'd have the skill required to do this because damn, I love Moiraine's dress so much. Can't wait to see the final result!
This was the first time I've watched one of your videos and when you put the painters tape on your dress form to make your pattern my brain legit back flipped! I've only been sewing for a year and have been making things with store bought patterns and the painters tape thing seems to freakin obvious! Last night I tried it out and made my very first piece of clothing without a pattern! I have Rachel Maksy to thank for inspiring me to take the leap and just start making things, and now I have you to thank for getting me one step further towards making my own patterns.
How could anyone not absolutely adore Bernadette and her Shears of Destiny? I love your style of making those videos. They are so entertaining and actually give a lot of detail about your work. I am obsessed!
I so love your channel. My grandmother taught me to sew when I was about 12. I am, now, 70. She taught me by learning to make pillow cases. I do not sew much any more, but I admire your skills, which are much greater than mine. After so much chatter on UA-cam, your videos are a welcome calm. Love your choice of music and your devotion to studious attention to detail. Watching your attention to hand sewing is amazing since I hate it! Just sewing up a hem by hand makes me just a bit mad!
Okay, wanting to make clothes from films and tv when they are fantasticly constructed is such a mood. Also, it was interesting to see how to draft something (I really need to get a dress form). Anyway I'm glad the book secret is out. I wish you luck with your new project, dearie!
Im so stoked for all the new folks who are getting into WoT thanks to the show. The costume design is one of the things I can say they nailed without reservation or caveat. Re: Invisible zippers, technically the world is set a few millennia in our own future and just because they dont have indoor plumbing or heating anymore doesnt mean they didn't retain garment closure technology 😅
Now I'm imagining the secret stash of zippers in the White Tower's basement that were carefully salvaged from before the Breaking and kept to be made into dresses for the Aes Sedai.
I have some caveats on the costumes, but I like them overall. I don't like the way the Aes Sedai look when traveling. Their costumes look "stage" to me. I also would have preferred more actual dresses and cloaks and embroidery that matched descriptions in the books with variance by land of origin rather than ajah, but that's just a preference.
My dad got so into the show that he started reading the books and then got so into the books that he was disappointed in the ending of the show for “ruining the story” 😂
@@amys0482 8 months late replying to this, but certain costumes and clothing do look very "stage". I absolutely was not a fan of the way the show did the Whitecloaks, for example.
@@MichaelAlthauser Yeah i dont think the costume department knows what a cloak is. I also don't think the writers know how not to mangle source material.
Big thanks and applauds to Bernadette, who not only started this project out on a whim, but also went through with it (all the way it seems), recorded the whole process, edited it, and added beautifully written (unless jewel-like sentences just tumble out of her mouth - which I would believe if anybody says so) narration so I could enjoy the journey with her. I know very little about dress-making, so I don't understand all of it. But I enjoy it. Watching her videos makes me want to start a channel, and also discourages me LOL
This is the perfect video I didn't know I needed this morning. Edit: Oh my gosh! your concern about the appropriateness of lining Moiraine's dress in black is so perfect! Jordan would be totes proud.
I'm commenting as i watch each part of the video, I'm a seamstress by trade and by experience i can say assuredly that the sleeve was constructed using the inverted method to create specific shape & desired falling structure. This means that the top of the sleeve was cut on grain & the bottom (the mouth/open piece (if you will) of the sleeve where you hands come out of) was cut in alignment with/on the bias (the stretchest direction of the fabric in relation to the selvages). The open shape & form of the mouth/opening was achieved not by drawing a pattern, but by a technique called cabbage heming (where you manipulate the cloth, fabric, or any woven & sometimes knits textiles as if you're sewing on elastic , stretching the bias edge of the sleeve opening as you sew. I can tell this because of the unique way it almost wants to curl up & some people can't quite guess how they managed to achive such structured top yet lose opening. Ps. Fusible inerfacing should be used on top. (The trick is to cut the upper interfacing on the bias & stretch fuse it). The weight or thickness of it depends on how large & structural you want the piece to be. Hope it helps! I know at first glance it sounds complicated but practice makes perfect! Thanks for your videos, i can feel the love you have for your craft. Great channel Bernadette.
Loving how this project is coming along (and the editing & music is *chef’s kiss*). If you haven’t already embarked on the bolero, what about mushroom leather? It’s biodegradable and has similar properties to real leather
I'm curious how much different this pattern draping drafting experience was for you on Little Bernadette vs the old mannequin. I imagine it made an ENORMOUS difference in the fitting process
I LOVE everything about this video! It made me remember why I love Bernadette's videos so very much! The subject, the camera angles, the dramatic music, and the dialog (and very clever play on words from the books and show). All of this made my heart sing! Thank you so much to Bernadette for every stitch of creativity she sews into her projects and videos!! ❤
I don’t sew, but I love historical accuracy in movies and I’m enthralled by your insistence on proving it possible-at least in clothing. I watch these videos because I admire your values and ethics and vocabulary! Love watching you be you! Plus, the process is enthralling…
You jumping in my fav series of books and now tv series that contains so much winks to historical fashion from all the history, and deciding to recreate one of them, has made my whole week💙 If any of you don't have seen yet the specials that are uploaded in Amazon's youtube channel about the construction of the cultures and their wardrobes, I can not recommend you them enough ✨
Well, this was an unexpected joy. I've obsessed over the books for so long so seeing you basically cosplay one of the best characters is awesome, can't wait for the next part! For the Bolero, I think a wool or felt will look nice and have a comely contrast with the satin, and it's possible you could get away with a different fabric for the skirts. As gorgeous as the blues are in the show, in the books Moiraine is described as having slashes of white in the skirt, so there's that option too. I wouldn't know how to make it match exactly, but rather than a zipper, you could try lacing or hooks and loops on an inner seam attached to the lining, using the taughtness of the pattern and stiffness of material to hold the outer seam closed over it, but I think, where the one power is concerned, we can let them get away with the odd zipper.
Ahhh... I just have to tell you Bernadette, I have such immense and complete respect for you. I think your videos are amazing, but your knowledge and your work - attention to detail - is just awe inspiring! I've been a tailor all my life and every one of your videos is such a joy to watch. And the little excerpts every now and then with your guinea pig always make me smile! I lost my 20 year old Pomeranian companion a couple of years ago and miss him every day. Seeing "sir" Cesario every now and then reminds me of him and makes my heart warm. Thank you for sharing your incredible art with me!
It seams 😉 that your move back to England has helped you to blossom and be so very creative! Your filming is much better, your content is even more fantastic, and you have finally pulled together all your sewing and design into a book. A ton of work. Journaling is fabulous. Of course, I have preordered it. Love, love, love your content and we can tell you are very happy! Fabulous for you. Silk dupioni may give you the right color but might not be the right weight.
In the prequel book Moriane is actually due at more then 10 strips of her houses colour across her breast. I am glad to see you pick up this...I am not shaped to find this dress fluttering but by golly I want to own it. The dress maker question is actually in the New Spring - Moriane orders 20 dress, half divided for riding and the first is cut while she's in the store and pinned then she receives it at the end of the week. Also week is 10 days.
Though it's implied this is done by a team of professional seemstresses, isn't it? So it may not be representative of the time it would take a single person to finish.
@@dziooooo They wouldn't have, since this was the first time Moiraine was ordering dresses after becoming Aes Sedai. The lower, educational, parts of the White Tower wear other, non-custom made dresses. You see Novices wearing plain white in the show prior to Logain's procession. Accepted (like Amalisa was) essentially wear the same white dresses, but with multi-colored bands at the hem. You only get to splurge once you become Aes Sedai.

Can we just take a minute to appreciate the cinematography of this UA-cam video ? I don't know how, but Bernadette managed to improve even further her filming/editing style, and it's just... *chief's kiss*
I'm super impressed Bernadette not only went to over 20+ fabric stores but that there were even that many within an area she could cover such a short amount of time. I can't even think of places beyond JoAnn and WalMart where live. That's why most of my fabric shopping usually ends up being done online which sucks because you either take the chance and buy the fabric based off an image only or buy a test swatch and keep going back and forth until you get what's right.
This was a deeply exciting sewing video! I'm off to order the book, thanks to your channel I've begun a more thoughtful relationship with my clothing and have developed a confidence in my mending skills. Next task: build my own garments!!!
Hach... yours might just be my new favorite series! Love the preview at the end. So excited for things to come. And it is so fun to watch you have fun with this. :)

As always, I can't sew for my life, I've never heard of this book/show, I lack a whole deal of specific vocabulary in english... and yet, and yet, I could watch these for HOURS, and always feel better after I did. Is this witchcraft? And the editing gets more awesome each time too!

In one Age, called the First Age by some, an Age long past, an Age yet to come, inspiration rose in mind of a UA-camr seamstress. It was not the beginning - there are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of the Sewing Machine - but it was _a_ beginning.
I was reading the whole time thinking they’re not they’re not gonna pull this off… you pulled it off
As a big Wheel of Time fan (AND a Bernadette fan), kudos!
OK, you get big kudos for this one! That is freaking awesome! Lol!
With love from,

Genius. Lol!
A lot, if not all of her editing is done by her sibling.
It’s in the family!
Indeed. I don't care about sewing or Wheel of Time, but I'm so invested in the production of the gown because the storytelling is soooo good!
@@themurrrr I believe it’s her sibling, not sister. Her sibling is non-binary. Unless she has more than one sibling.
@@themurrrr Bernadette does quite a lot of editing herself, but her sibling does help!
The SOUND editing is immaculate, too! She knows that ASMR is a good 25% of the viewing experience
Can we just take a moment to appreciate that her hair acts as a second pocket? She legitimately stores several different tools in that hair.
"I like your hair!"
"Thanks, it also has pockets!"
Women have evolved to be able to store things wherever they can.

Any form of making is valid!
/standing ovation for you, good sir.
As a 29 year old guy who also knits, I recommend knitting some socks. Tons of interesting constructions happening with those projects.
That is so badass, Mariko True! Congratulations!
This is fascinating. I wondered the whole time I was watching if they digitally enhanced the colors of the textiles.

The cinematography, the editing and the teasing... You've just produced the Infinity Wars of sewing videos... I can't wait to see what's coming in the next part!
I know! This is such a cinematic wonder! Well done, Bernadette!
I've been so impressed too!
it's better than the wheel of time tv show
i love how as soon as something captures her imagination and passion, bernadette completely ignores the list of sewing projects she has already in the queue in favor of her new passion.
Exactly why I suggested WOT to Bernadette in the first place for the ranking.
So fashion for sure changed heella, but its evolution has just been fucked up, if that makes sense
I will also have to look for your book now.
totaly agree!!!
I love that cloak-thing SO MUCH and it's SO CONFUSING 😅
Good luck to you!
@@bernadettebanner I see much poring over interview shots where they haven't done any colour grading that hides the construction in my future 😆

Ah, yes. The suspenders and fingerless leather gloves were a dead give away.
The sound of sharp scissors, slicing through fabric gives me goosebumps in the most delightful way ✂
The hidden zipper must have been a concession the costume department did for the show. I've read the series several times and only recall references to buttons... never zippers.
I love what you're doing and can't wait to see the finished product!
While it’s true no zippers were mentioned in the books, the backstory of the world makes it possible for them to exist, I suppose
@@jamiecare1042 I made the same view point in my comment. Not mentioned in the books, but theoretically possible.
Zippers maybe a left-over from the Age of Legends. She is wealthy and can work magic.
That's a fantastic idea! 😀
EXCELLENT idea!
Having seen the show, that jacket isn’t quilted and the purpose here is to make a reproduction of that jacket, no?
@@tananario It's leather. Bernadette doesn't do leather.
The Sun Court of Cairhien (the nation from which Moiraine originates) gives LOTS of “France under Louis XIV-XVI” vibes
Some of those Cairhienins are straight out of Louis XIII Renaissance 😂
With the dark colors, stripes of rank, etc I got a very military vibe dress style but YES a deadly decadent court a la The Sun King.
Ok... I think we all need a series based on the garb in each WOT culture. Ebou Dar key hole gloriousness? yes please!!!!!
@@auntie_M yessssss with the keyhole neckline and stacked petticoat, multicolored skirt? Oh and the knife necklaces!!
Having gotten into the Wheel of Time almost two decades ago, seeing the amount of love this series is getting now waters my crops and clears my skin. I was so hype to see Bernadette tackle Third Age clothing and this video is as amazing as always!
I love that metaphor! xD
It seems like you are having a ball with this one, and that's lovely! Here for the vibes and the piecing and all of it, really.
I was so excited to hear about the book, I ordered one immediately - only to find out when I told my husband, that he had ordered one for me for Mother's Day gift. This is a lovely man who gets it.
Book one of 23? You are in for a treat!
Perhaps “paper leather” or heavy waxed cotton or wool could be options for the bolero? I haven’t worked with either in a context quite similar to this but might be worth looking into🤔
💙 I adore this gown and would really like to make a slightly more ‘modern’ version, because I would like to wear it all the time please!
Some kind of heavy brocade might be cool too if it could be stiffened sufficiently from behind
My first thought was fish leather because that is easy to find in my area but a quick Google search tells me it's not easily found elsewhere.
I wondered about a navy oilskin, thought that would probably give a bit more of a rustic workwear feel
Ooh, waxed cotton would be fabulous! I came down to comment that maybe cork would work, but waxed cotton would be possibly better. If it crazes as you see you can always remove the crazing for final shots with a hairdryer.
I am thinking a quilted wool jacket- the quilting could accentuate the sculptural aspects of the jacket.
I often forget that Bernadette did more than just historical period wear and this project is definitely paying homage to her theatrical roots! So excited to see more!
I stan Cesario's outrage that ISPs can peek at your browsing history
Cesario is everything!
I greatly appreciate Bernadette's choice to be mostly historically accurate, but also can't wait for part 2 and to see the final dress!
It’s like she knows I spent almost a year looking for a long blue wool coat after watching S1 of A Discovery of Witches… and I found it *evil laughter*
Holy cat mittens 23 fabric shops? Mum would lose her whole mind, the son of one of her friends went to Zambia for work and he brought her back some fabrics at her request, if we ever go to London I have to take her here.
ETA: I adore the music you’ve put in this video. So so good.
The music in this video is ABSOLUTELY CHEF'S KISS, like there's usually good music in Bernadette's videos but this one is just???
Aah! Two of my favourite things in one: Wheel of Time and Bernadette Banner! Glory to the Builders
The piece I really want is Nynaeve's green coat! Mountain Village Wisewoman/healer is absolutely my vibe.
I'd love to see Egwene's skirt and top. It's such a cute look and I'd love to make it
It’s so weird to hear people casually mention Aes Sedai online :) It’s the books of my early teens that I would never ever imagined to have made into series.
I'm a "follow the pattern" guy, so watching the draping and drafting process is fascinating.
Terrific pick of a project. That dress was its own character in those scenes! I watched a “Making-of” show on the costuming, and they showed some detail about how they put together the Bolero. Wow. The details on these costumes was amazing. Am really looking forward to your part Two!
I need to find that video because that bolero keeps me up at night.

110% here for the vibes. I am too clumsy and hamfisted to even begin to attempt sewing. But listening to anyone talk about something they are passionate about is always a joy.
"For those you you who are just here for the vibes..."
Yeah, I'd love to be able to make these things, but I realise that learning proper sowing skills is a lot of work, and I have too many projects going on anyway.
Woah I never knew those two things were connected 🤯 I envy you, my spelling may be good but my spatial awareness/sense is veeeery close to zero lol
I always amazed with how many fabric shops exist when Bernadette goes shopping. So many options must be overwhelming!
I’m always amazed she doesn’t buy more fabric!
I needed THAT part of the video to realize myself living in a small town... + Brick & mortar stores apparently keep dieing? My envy to all Londoners!
Rachel is a darling! Idk how she Chaos(es) her way through Sewing and it all just Works!

I don't think I'll ever really have the patience for sewing, but your videos are cinematic masterpieces and fill me with such calm and inspiration.
The pencil stored handily in the hair is such a vibe. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out!
That bit gave me flashbacks to when I worked in a warehouse, and everyone with a ponytail stuck a pen in it. Including me.
Your inkwell pencil sharpener is SO CUTE that is such a clever design, also your pattern work from scratch never ceases to amaze 🤩
Is THAT what was going on! 🙈 I was so confused... 😂
Closed Captioning *on point*. So entertaining. Just that extra little something great on an already awesome video. I love it.
Ahhh... I just have to tell you Bernadette, I have such immense and complete respect for you. I think your videos are amazing, but your knowledge and your work - attention to detail - is just awe inspiring! I've been a tailor all my life and every one of your videos is such a joy to watch.
This is also taking place in one of the largest cities in the "world" and caters to the women of the tower.
Fun right. 🤗
@@dziooooo They wouldn't have, since this was the first time Moiraine was ordering dresses after becoming Aes Sedai. The lower, educational, parts of the White Tower wear other, non-custom made dresses. You see Novices wearing plain white in the show prior to Logain's procession. As a wheel of time fan (book and show). I was so surprised by this and absolutely loving it. All the best with this project.
As someone who has very little seeing experience and is about to embark on making an entire dress, I’m very glad to see this book!
Hach... yours might just be my new favorite series! Love the preview at the end. So excited for things to come. And it is so fun to watch you have fun with this. :)
i am not experienced in pattern making for sure but the way you just jump in and go for it..... I'm floored by that I sit and fret and think and re think. I very much appreciate this window by which we get to watch you display your skills. Please continue
As always, I can't sew for my life, I've never heard of this book/show, I lack a whole deal of specific vocabulary in english... and yet, and yet, I could watch these for HOURS, and always feel better after I did. Is this witchcraft? And the editing gets more awesome each time too!
It is allways a pleasure to watch a true craftsman work! Thank you for shareing your passion with us Bernadette!
As someone who has just recently started reading the Wheel of Time (have not seen the show) I am thoroughly intrigued to see how this dress turns out!
As an almost 30 year fan of tWoT, and fan of the show, in enjoying your discovery of tWoT. Plus, I love your videos.
1:54 the humble stray hair across her face to show just how hard she's working and how deep in thought she is, this woman is art
This is astounding. As someone who just started sewing clothes last year I am in awe of your ability to just see a dress in TV and not only replicate it but also taylor it to your body perfectly o.o
I JUST posted my final video yesterday of the construction of my Aes Sedai dress. I had an absolute heart attack seeing you’re a fan too!! Day. Made. 🥰🥰
I've been binge-watching your videos for a few days now and I'm so thankful to you for finally kicking my brain back into a spell of threadwork and embroidery motivation. I have an 8x11 artistic realism landscape thread-painting I've been on-and-off working on for over two years and I'm so happy to be back in a sweet patch of on. Here's to hoping I can finally wrap it up in time for my mom's birthday in July. Thanks again, Bernadette. Your videos are so uniquely calming and entrancing. I could watch them forever.
If I hadn't been sold already, those musical flourishes and the *inkwell sharpener* in the beginning would have been enough to hook me, frankly.
I do love the sounds of your very sharp pair of scissors and the sound of the pen/pencil. It speaks to my heart and I can feel your determination you have for creating the dress. It’s so wonderful.
I am so excited to watch this! The Aes Sendai are fascinating fem power figures and I am a little obsessed . I know jewelry isn’t your thing but I would love a Wheel of Time jewelry craft video from someone. I watched the series and am reading the book for the first time. Thanks for this video .
That Next Time... part literally looked like a movie. This video is just *chef's kiss*.
Your production values and cinematography are so pleasing, I’d watch you film reading the phone book if there still were any.
Bernadette, you have reminded me how much I love (hand) sewing. I'm currently bedbound with a severe hernia and you've inspired me to hand sew a blouse. From my bed. Because I can:).THANK YOU for being such an inspiration.
Oh and I'm so buying your book.
I love Wheel of Time, book and show, and I am so excited for this!!
