I just found your channel at the beginning of December. I love whiskey. I'm here going back through the oldest to the newest videos. I'm astounded at how many whisky/eys there are out there. I enjoy a good islay scotch.
And, at first, I didn't care for Rye but now it is my favorite. I love Turkey 101 Rye.
I've not had Old Forester Rye I'm going to need to get me a bottle.
Great review guys. Knew the Pikesville would come out high on the list. I'm sorry you didn't throw Wild Turkey 101 Rye in the mix. I've gone absolutely nuts over the stuff lately and reach for it more than my coveted bottle of Pikesville. And what an Old Fashioned it makes. YUM!
We love WT 101 Rye, but it has dried up. We haven't seen a bottle in 6 months. We actually have a really fun blind planned for it once we track it down again. Cheers!

@@TheBourbonVan oh oh ohhh oh the rye stuff! YES!!! Pikesville for the win! I love Pikesville. It has crushed every rye blind I’ve done (against Templeton 6 year, OF, KC regular rye, KC Twice Barreled rye, and Michter’s rye... but i haven’t yet blinded it against KC Cask Strength rye). I’m sipping on KC regular rye right now. Cheers!

I 100% agree with the high west double rye. Bought this bottle a year ago and have tried it 3/4 times and every time, choked it down or poured it out. So funky and I can’t seem to get accustomed to it no matter what rye’s I drink.

We did a Rye tasting at home High West came in next to last out of 12. In our opinions. And also, he is a laugh rye-it.
Phil has a definite rye sense of humor. I picked up a bottle this week of High West DR because it was the best choice of three rye whiskey's on the shelf. Since I like gin and rye whiskey on the spicier side of the rye spectrum, this was a winner for sipping neat and in a Perfect Manhattan. If I could find OF Rye near me I would definitely give it a try.
We just had a pour of the new Rendezvous Rye this weekend. We don’t have a frame of reference since we never tried the previous versions, but we both enjoyed it.
@@TheBourbonVan You two are commendable for giving distilleries multiple shots (wink) at finding something pleasing in their offerings. I am somewhat less forgiving with whiskey, but I do the same with cigar brands. Cigars and whiskey can be excellent pairings, BTW. However, chasing cigars is the fast lane to going broke if the whiskey pursuit hasn't put you on that track already. (-:
The shoe polishy note on the Hugj West is because it's aged in gin barrels. That juniper note as well.
Enjoy your reviews a lot. I, too, have not been to a diner to order cherry coke and vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce. But I want to.

We've come around on it a lot in the 2 years since we released this video. We almost always have some on the shelf these days, particularly the finished varieties.
Perhaps you did . But I noticed you never cleansed the palate…. Maybe some water in between each tasting . Sorry I’m just finicky that way . Great presentation, as usual.
Hi Leonard, we always cleans the palate. Sometimes we'll go from glass to glass just to see if other flavors stick out. The tricky part is to keep these videos to a reasonable length. The filming of this one actually took nearly two hours because we take time to let our palates rest, eat a chocolate chip or some unsalted nuts, and drink some water.
@@TheBourbonVan never considered chocolate . Just pulled a great apple pie out of oven . When I taste I have a glass of ice water and a spit bucket . A little swish , swish and spit . For me the ice water really helps clear the tongue and the little dangly thing in the back of the throat 😂😂 . I like the idea of chocolate.
Knob creek is grassy. If you didn't like these try michters, emerald giant, angel envy and wild turkey rare breed.
Could you pin it down to a Kiwi shoe polish? Either way, I ain't drinkin' any booze that smells like airplane glue, furniture polish, nail polish remover and just plain forget shoe polish, irrespective of brand. Count me out!
I don't agree with 1 thing you said. Out of these 4 the High West is the #1, I do like it. But it is definitely overrated & I won't buy a bottle. If it's at a bar/restaurant I'll drink it.
Of course it is the one Rye that can't be found in Missouri......

Old Forester Rye is my favorite. I didn't like the High West either.
We think OF Rye is the best deal in rye whiskey.
