Thank you SO MUCH for posting such an awesome and USEFUL tutorial on a fantastic piece of music. I have loved Genesis and Tony Banks for over 25 years and even though I play some music, I never really dug into the heavy stuff. Thanks to UA-cam, I am picking up parts and even whole Genesis songs almost daily! Wish I had this when I was younger. Thanks to you, I can pretty much play the Lamb Intro, something I doubt I would ever thought I'd have worked out in my lifetime. Many, many thanks!
You are a Brave Man, sir! Knowing how "picker of nits" might want to be hateful underachievers and throw you under a bus for your sharing. It is an excellent effort. I learned a good deal from it. It may not be perfect, but that is the best detailed tutorial I've seen. I think through our collective efforts we may gain the perfect understanding of what is very complex piece of genius. Well done sir. Thank for sharing your efforts. Take the rest of the day off!
It seems to be very good and practical tutorial. I'm Genesis fan from Ukraine since 1978 i'm sure i can appreciate your work properly. This is great! Thanks.
Hey My Father is a Composer and Vocal Instructor for 47 years he hated this When I played it for him you make this So Easy And So Fun It was great to learn from you obviously he Doesnt know or care about Tony banks or genesis for that matter But Thanks just The Same I Think You kick Ass And Are a Good person And You make us Shlemea les Look Good
Thank you for taking the time to learn it, which must have taken forever, and knowing that for us other Genesis fans, we need a lesson for Lamb Lies Down, so thank you very much.
Thanks for this amazing tutorial! I'm working on it diligently and as you say slowly at first although even at 90 BPM I feel like my brain is going to explode. Great job and much appreciated!
sorry to be off topic but does anybody know a way to log back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid lost my password. I would love any help you can give me.
@Alden Leo I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im in the hacking process atm. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
thank you maestro, great advice - I had already worked to the metronome but am just too impatient!! will slow back down and build it up again. Thanks so much
Great tutorial! I hope the following helps in its authenticity because I've tried this and it seems to work (sorry in advance about the jargon!). I think as far as the "up and down" bit goes, what Tony Banks actually does is simply skip an octave. Going 'up', he plays both E minor inversions (8 over 4) then jumps right up to repeating the exact starting sequence (but VERY high up the keys) for 2 beats and then begins the "down" journey right down to more familiar ground: an octave below the original start sequence. People just don't recognise the jump because the awareness of a change in pitch up there (a whole octave) is so minimal. Try it! It sounds great! BTW I want to thank you for this and hope this helps. Regards. Richard.
Hey thank you for the tutorial! That actually helps and it really works! The intro sounds almost impossible to play at first. But seeing this tutorial, know I know that nothing is impossible lol. Amazing. Keep posting :D
Hi, I wrote you once before, you did an outstanding job on this song....is there anyway to have a friend stand over you and video you playing? It would REALLY help a lot, especially on the rundown....Thanks sooo much..!!
Nice. A tripod with a phone adaptor would be helpful for next time. Been looking for a tutorial for years. I figured there was some pattern that would break the code on this opening and you broke it!
Great Job Thank you really...I'm waiting for that kind of "Help" to play The Lamb since a long time....i agree with craig8128 So Many thanks from a Genesis fan in the south of France.
after the Bb chord, when he says he is not shure about what it is, i kinda figured it out it is an E6: B, C#, E, G#, B your left hand plays the C# and the right hand the E major chord
I found one thing which to my ears sound great. I play: Right hand - The arpegiated 2 note chord thing, and i play an Amaj7 chord starting from the top (as all the other chords of the intro) Left hand - I play the notes B and F#, but not together, one at a time, starting with B.
Fantastic tutorial. You're very talented. I think I have it down. now I just need to work on the speed.. How many repetitions of each section would you say before changing to the next?
Really Nice job. Also, this is transcribed online...just do a google search. And you are very close to the transcription I have if not right on. Back in the Day, we had to slow the turntable down to 16 rpms in the basement to try to figure all this stuff out..gotta love youtube.
Thank you!! Maybe the last chords need some little change, but the intro seems very good! Thank you again. Now we all wait the all song... I know that all the parts are very interesting and surprising.
That's it !. This is "the thing", the RIGHT thing !very good job. and good lesson. I have a request....any chance to see the Hammond part of "the colony of slyppermen" ?I mean....the real Tony Bank's Groovy finger.becasu when I listen to lamb studio or the lamb archives or even the various bootleg...it seems to me that there's something more than 3 chords.( excuse my poor english)
Excellent!! Thanks a million... I was hoping I could find the 2nd part of the intro chords and explanation. And shazam!@@#&!! here it is. Awesome and thanks!!
hi, great video, have learned a lot from it - thanks! OK, the big problem is keeping left and right hands in phase when at full speed - sometimes end up playing them together instead of evenly spaced apart.... any hints??
i was thinking how odd it is that Peter has such a big soul influence and I realized this is kind of the antithesis of a Mowtown sound....and most early Genesis is very 'white' sounding compared to Peter's solo stuff... but what you are doing here is awesome stuff....I love it-
However, there is a small in the "new part", after repeating the E major/E minor sequence in the lower octave. The right does not stay on E major after that but switches to C#m7 with the left hand playing F# and A#.
Hey dude...thanks for your hard work, BUT you left so much out of the video...in fact VERY confusing....WHERE is the run down after e major???? you left the entire run down OUT!!! What are the chords for the run down, the most IMPORTANT part???
You're a diamond mate! I've been trying to work this out since 1974.
Thank you

What a monstrous piano intro and so rhapsodic. Fab! Great work!
I love the way you transmit your passion and use your amazing human brain...merci et bravo

Great job breaking this down man!!!! I'm stoked to learn thisl. I'm getting better everytime.
That was amazing, thanks so much for sharing; and, your great teacher, the way you break it down!

Helpful, wild and crazy! Yes, all at the same time. Your "rundown" actually sounds fine to me. You crack me up
dude, u are the man. i like how the keyboard parts don't go where you expect them to.

Awesome brother gday from Oz.
You are outstanding my friend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!thank you so much for sharing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its very complicated, what a great musician Tony Bank is!!
I think that sort of technique was inspired by Bach's well tempered clavier "Prelude and fugue II in c minor" BMW(847)
That's exactly what I thought!
sorry to be off topic but does anybody know a way to log back into an Instagram account??

It is much easier to enjoy than to execute :)

Good effort. You got much further than I did!!
Really Nice job. Also, this is transcribed online...just do a google search. And you are very close to the transcription I have if not right on.

Great stuff. I'm actually really surprised. It's much less complicated than it sounds (to me anyway)
Thank you!! Maybe the last chords need some little change, but the intro seems very good! Thank you again. Now we all wait the all song... I know that all the parts are very interesting and surprising.
Bravo! From Italy.
And the lamb.......lies down....
Well done 😎

nice work bro
Excellent!! Thanks a million... I was hoping I could find the 2nd part of the intro chords and explanation. And shazam!@@#&!! here it is. Awesome and thanks!!
Yes I have been looking for a vid THANKS a lot !!!!
great job
hi, great video, have learned a lot from it - thanks! OK, the big problem is keeping left and right hands in phase when at full speed - sometimes end up playing them together instead of evenly spaced apart.... any hints??
When was the last time Banks played this live ?
The "Up and down" section is based on E minor but with diferrent keys on left hand.
hi,can you make one for firth of fifth intro and in the cage solo?
With that chord you're having trouble with at the end, try A maj 7 in the right hand and B-F# in the left.
Hi
Awesome!
Is there any way of emailing me the chart to the LLD on Broadway?
I'd like to learn at my own speed
For a full transcription please visit ua-cam.com/video/KSsDn2qs_9Y/v-deo.html
video unavailable, Thanks anyway.
@@124marsh Not sure why you're seeing that as the video is definitely still there... 🤔
@@ElektrikHob probably a copyright violation I live in USA
very good man , thanks . like TONY BANKS
wow. THAT is a compliment. thanks! although the difference between me and him is that i love peter gabriel
i was thinking how odd it is that Peter has such a big soul influence and I realized this is kind of the antithesis of a Mowtown sound....and most early Genesis is very 'white' sounding compared to Peter's solo stuff...
but what you are doing here is awesome stuff....I love it-
the lost chord at end is actually Eadd9
This is the best
Great tutorial, my human brain still doesn't get it though 😂😂
Wow, excellent ear
Gonna try learn this Xd might take a while
This helped me much :) Thanks xD
Are you eating while you filmed this?
On the one you're winging (The A ma iii7 over B bass after the Bb) try this, dude: Right hand: A - C# - G#, Left hand: B - E.
What it does show is how innovative TB was. Genius. Great video.
Any idea how to play the verse section???
Playing music by ear but its so hard to coordinate two hands at once... im a total newbie. And music theory looks scary
However, there is a small in the "new part", after repeating the E major/E minor sequence in the lower octave. The right does not stay on E major after that but switches to C#m7 with the left hand playing F# and A#.
Thanks Dante, sounds promising. Will try it! :-)
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Hey dude...thanks for your hard work, BUT you left so much out of the video...in fact VERY confusing....WHERE is the run down after e major???? you left the entire run down OUT!!!
What are the chords for the run down, the most IMPORTANT part???
Get a tripod kid, i'm getting dizzy.
Shatap
Great lesson, but for heaven’s sake get a tripod!!
Thank you. You need a tripod.
