  • In this cello lesson, I go over my strategy for training your ear to hear better intonation! Through my experience, I find that droning the open strings while playing notes in first position is the best way to develop and reinforce and good intonation as well as train the necessary muscle memory for the spacing of the fingers and overall frame of your left hand. This exercise doesn't have to be limited to first position. The possibilities for droning different notes are numerous, so feel free to explore the other positions while droning an open string to hear how your intonation is relating to a constant pitch. Cello drones for practicing intonation coming soon!

Hi Daniel. Hope you are well. Your tone is as rich and in tune as always. What strings are you using these days? I love the sound in the lower register. Best, Branden. For everyone else, Daniel transformed my daughter's playing. He is an excellent instructor and communicator of concepts (with or without the cello in his hands).

Hey Branden, nice to hear from you and thank you! I'm using Pirastro Passione for the A and D and Larsen Magnacore for the G and C. Concord Musical Supplies has the best deal for that combo set. Hope you and the family are doing well!

Do you keep the bow flat on the strings always or at an angle? Also moving bow from string to string. What part of arm,
