People don't want to admit it, but racially homogeneous countries in asia are very "racist." "Racist" might not even be the right term, because they don't even mean to be. They have no ill intent. It's just that so many prejudices are hardwired into their culture and they *don't notice it*, and it's because they don't encounter "outsiders" or "foreigners" in a regular basis. That's the scary part. They're blind to their prejudices. Recall all those japanese reactions on youtube to the "but we're speaking Japanese" video. It's something similar to that. What's worse, is that because of colonialism, in some countries like the Philippines, they've attached these prejudices to your race. So for example if you're Caucasian, then you must be filthy rich, therefore it's okay to rob/cheat/steal from you since you have money to spare. "You're white, you're probably just a sex tourist or a rich well off backpacking globetrotter." If you're dark skinned, you must be poor, or thuggish, because you're skin has darkened since you've spent a lot of days doing manual labour and working under the sun, therefore you must be feared because you might be a criminal.
iremember la I’m half white and Filipino born and raised in the USA 🇺🇸 and I have been bullied all my life by pure Filipinos American Filipinos and Asians in general and white people are worse... I was never welcomed into anything... or culture wise so I always hanged out by myself... people that are not half Filipino don’t know how much hell we have to put up with... I think the state plays a big part. but honestly, I've been on the receiving end of racism in China town in my own country. I think the majority of the general human race holds prejudice against other races deep down. it's manifested in different ways, but still there.

Many filipinos do that normally. smiling and laughing a lot and saying kaya and that they can do it. might really just be a thing here for some of us but might also be a recent trend to just laugh and smile things away. people tend to add extra hahahas, lols, and emojis here to lighten the mood.
@@xXxSkyViperxXx Yeah, it's quite common in the Philippines to smile while saying something sad or talking about grim things, it's a coping mechanism. A few other asian countries do this as well. That's why people "smile sadly" in stories.
She has lighter skin than me... I think her being half and bullied was over emphasized... every dark girl have been through bullying, I was even called charcoal once, but just laugh it off, I find it funny, and she found it too much...
A child is not born racist...for school kids not to play with another child because of their skin colour or call them names is sad 😭. Let's raise our children to be non-discriminative towards others. ✌
Yes, a child is usually curious about people that look different, but whether they react positive or negatively toward those people depends on influences from their family and environment. Children are very impressionable, so if they hear negative things about people that look a certain way, they may not question those ideas until much later in life.
Children aren’t born racist, but once they develop a sense of self, they may start to be. If not taught properly, it will over take them. This is not a common opinion these days, but I believe many Americans have grown up and put aside racist thoughts. I am Filipino and many older Filipinos are indeed prejudicial/racist in some form or fashion, it’s very common. I’ve managed to get out of any of those mindsets left over from the older generation simply by hanging out with people from all backgrounds. Living in Houston, it came very naturally, but I understand how homogenous cities may have a harder time.
I'm a tanned Northern Mindanao boy, and I got called "negro" a couple of times when i was a kid. 300 years of Spanish rule, and it's unfortunate that the SPANISH WORD for BLACK is negro. We even have a delicacy called Paella negra. Unlike the US, an african-filipino is a rarity, so rare that kids that get to see one has a hard time reacting. (Imagine a kindergarten of majority brown or fair skinned filipinos and then there's an african-filipino mixed in the pack) From what i saw in my own eyes, they (even our Aeta brothers in the North) are just being TEASED like a lot. I doesn't help that within our community even, kids tease other dark-skinned boys(like me) all the time. It just slowly disappears as you grow up though. You have to be a dumb adult or teenager to tease me for my skin :D
I'm half japanese half filipino and I can vouch for this 100%. You will be treated differently. The thing is Filipinos won't consider you truly filipino and my japanese side won't either so I'm stuck in a weird place of being a hybrid. Also people will automatically think that you're rich for some reason. One time I applied for a government ID and I was interrogated if I'm really a Filipino citizen. I had to supply additional files to back up my claim which is insane 😑
I have cousins who are half Japanese but we never treat them any differently. I guess it will always have to do with the upbringing of the certain person. They identify themselves as Japanese and we respect that but we never treated them in a very different way just like everybody else. Our family treat them the way they treat everybody else in the family. One thing that makes it this way is that one way or another, whether they are born in Japan or not, they still have some of our family blood that runs through them. When you are a family or becomes too close in our family then you will be treated how we treat each other, with love and respect. I love them because they teach me everything about Japanese culture and I teach them our culture as well. If people have been raised as appreciative and open-minded in accepting differences and understanding them, then no one will have to be treated differently. We too are of Spanish descent but we were never treated differently.

My heart goes out to the half-Nigerian girl - her childhood experiences sound so painful! It's amazing how she still grew to be such a kind soul. Also mixed arabic states are racist toward blacks, same goes for Hispanic countries, so this has nothing to do with homogeneous societies PS : Philippines is very mixed country. I think she's beautiful too, not just appearance wise but her attitude as well. Anyone who tries to give you grief about it, that's their problem and they need to work on whatever insecurities they have about themselves.
However asians are naturally narrow minded and automatically assume that half white, half asian would look good lol yet most half white, half asians look more asian. I say this as a white guy, as i've noticed how good looking blasians are.
I'm half-korean and half-filipino, I am born in korea and have lived 13 years of my life here in the philippines (now I'm 23 years old). I kinda relate to some of these girls' story, but i don't really feel discriminated whilst staying here. A couple of times, yes. But not to the point that they go full-on ridiculing me. The korean influence in the ph actually makes my heart flutter. Having some korean touch on almost anything that I stumble upon. In tvs, ads, foods, and even our language. The hospitality and kindness is one of the reasons that I love it in here. Nakakapangpangiti sakin ang mga tao dito. :)

This girl is Filipina, why are the comments explaining what negra is in the Philippines as if she doesnt know. Obviously she is speaking from her experience about when the word was used in a negative connotation or in a way to make her feel less Filipina and she was able to recognize it. Sometimes we should just listen to people and their experiences and stop making it about our selves. Also People need to stop being cute with that word negra yes it means what it means but we all know even words that mean simple things can easily be made into insults especially those involving race.

I am full Filipino, but I definitely have experienced discrimination by my elementary classmates for having a deep or morena complexion. I have an inferiority complex growing up and it reflects in my attitude also. So definitely, I empathize with the half-Nigerian lady. And I feel sad that there is a lack of representation for morena people in the entertainment industry, it affects a lot of young people on how they feel about themselves. This is a sad scenario in the Philippines.

White men are seen as predators in some parts of Asia because of the tourists coming to have sex with girls and women but I agree being white is an advantage in some parts of Asia. It’s associated with being wealthy because of western media.

I've never had a rude experience because of being mixed race here, but you're not going to get *should I say a feeling of camaraderie with them, because they don't feel like you belong with them. And I'm not offended by that, as you grow older, you accept that you're different from your relatives, your fellow kababayans, and I feel like it's up to the person to decide how they're going to handle their mixed identity, and whether they'll make the best out of it.

I am surprised the African mixed one has not resented humanity because of that. Being in a place with very few people like you as well as having random people hurling insults at you constantly can really make you a dark person. Yet, the vibes i get from her are very gentle and kind. Her parents did a good job in building her confidence for adulthood and not allowing her to lose herself because of the environment. Really sweet person.
FYI every dark girl and not limited to half get bullied when they were children... Bullying is rampant in elementary days and get better when you get into college... I don't think they insult her everytime... it's just every insult she received got imprinted in her mind... She's grown up, I'm like the same age as her, with a darker skin... I've been through like her experience, and I'm also poorer, I think.. But she only cited the bad things she had experienced, making an impression her being half, makes Filipinos bullied her.. no! even if she's full she'll still get bullied, unless she's a dominant girl in a classroom. . she also never mentioned how great her friends is, her families, but only mentioned her dark moments in her life... As a Filipino kid, I also had half-black classmates back then, they were always being teased and called "Negro/Baluga" in a demeaning way. I felt bad for them that's why I befriended them and made them feel comfortable with people in public, especially in school. I think it's the parents fault for not giving awareness to kids to respect other's ethnicity, even I am guilty of having such parents, because they think black people live in the mountains and are uncivilized. And yes, we also have black people in the Philippines and they usually live in the mountains, isolated, and separated from the rest of us.
The Filipino race is the most diversed. Historically, the Philippines was colonized by many countries so generally speaking, Filipinos are of mixed race (be it of Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, American, Malay). Presently, anywhere in the world you go, you can find a Filipino married to a local. So you cannot really specify what a Filipino looks like.

Your statement is a bit misleading. The Filipinos are diverse, but not to the extent you're claiming. Filipinos are overwhelmingly of Malay stock with a large percentage of Chinese mixed in, and thats about it. There is a significant number of mixed European/American as well as with other Asian races like Korean and Japanese with Filipinos but its not that big compared to the population as a whole. You make it seem like every Filipino you come across will be a mix of all those nationalities, when in reality thats not true at all. Maybe less than 10% of Filipinos will be mixed with all kinds of other races mainly other Asians and another 30% mixed with Chinese blood.
Filipinos are *ethnically* diverse almost homogenous, not racially one. It is estimated that 10% of Filipinos have Chinese ancestry and only about 3% have European mix with about 1% being mixed with others. Admit it that we are mostly 99% of Austronesian stock. Half Filipinos are simply over represented in the entertainment industry giving us the impression of being racially diverse.
@@stuka80 Totally Agree with you, we are of various southeast Asian and east Asian ancestries (for me personally, I'm 2/5ths Malayo-Polynesian, 2/5ths Southern European, and a 1/6 or 1/8 Chinese but I'm just Filipino) Not everyone is mixed and there is always a certain psychic characteristic pinoys know when they know someone who is a Filipino.
If your are caucasian mixed you will definitely garner a lot more respect and be viewed a lot more "beautiful" in general from my experience growing up. I had good friend of mine who is filipino/german and my filipino relatives always viewed him quite positively. In fact, I remember growing up and being told to marry another filipino, but they would also be fine if they were "white". Its frustrating at times to deal with their backwards thinking, but different times I guess.

My schools full of Mexicans 80%OF and 10% Vietnamese. I think it depends on majority versus minority. In another school in my town, theirs a big asian and white population and those kids are trump supporters and hate Mexicans whereas in the school I'm in. I'm oppressed bc Mexicans think im Mexican but mixed Vietnamese and Vietnamese thinks im Mexican mixed Vietnamese too. There's like 0.5% filpinos so they think its okay to pick on me. If those kids went to a dominant white school they would be oppressed.

Random 94 I said filipinos in GENERAL. Ask yourself why is it that most filipinos claim they're mix especially in spanish while in fact they aren't? Even if you have one most filipinos that have spanish/iberian dna only have 1-4% in them which is actually negligible. Most of filipinos i know they claim having spanish roots which i dont see them or at least isnt obvious like in latin american. Filipino blood is quite strong my bf is half filipino and half white and my ppl think he is just a tall latino.

I'm half filipina half italian, born and raised in Italy, and people often tell me I'm as beautiful as my mom. No bullies at all my whole life (I'm 30 yo). I'm very lucky and grateful!
A lot of the things they said are a reality for half-Filipinos. I am Korean-Filipino and growing up, I had some difficulty relating with some of my classmates and friends because of cultural differences. And I always remembered being annoyed because people around me always thought I was rich and would always ask me to treat them. As for racist comments, Filipinos tend to make jokes that are insensitive and tend to cross the line. One of my classmates in highschool even said “Go back to Korea” as a joke and would always ask me stupid questions about Korea. But in their credit, they always tried to bridge that cultural boundary and would be specially friendly. Something that I am proud of to be a Korean-Filipino.
I'm really happy to see a video like this. Living in Asia for more than half my life. I relate completely to them. This happens to me all the time. So it's nice to see, some actual coverage on it. 👍
@Quench Gamer TV I see. That makes a lot of sense. I though he was saying that he's a half filipino so he got the same experience. However, I think being completely white is a very different experience - emotionally. At least he IS an outsider. The half-pinay girl is pinay herself but isn't treated like one. The feeling of being isolated will affect them differently.

To those in the comments saying that Negro/Negra isn’t offensive... It *is* in the West (more specifically the USA) During the times of slavery/segregation, this term was used to refer to black/dark-skinned people. It is not used anymore. I know that in Spanish speaking countries etc. “Negro” translates to “black”, but please just be understanding of why some may take offence to it. Thank you 🙇♀️

We understand if you are upset with the N word. But we also demand respect from people (especially foreigners..) who don't have a true connection to our culture. We are different. I remember when I was in elementary and high school, I was studying in a chinese school, and I remember being insulted by random kids outside the school, like kids from neighboring schools, and they were calling me, and my other schoolmates, “intsik beho” or similar stuff. It used to get to my nerves a lot when I was a kid, but now I don't. The insult doesn't even make sense. If I let people make me feel bad about myself/ my own looks, how would I ever succeed in life?
I just found this video. My son is marrying a Filipino girl next week. He thinks she is absolutely beautiful! She has a flat broad nose and dark skin like most Filipinos. It breaks my heart to hear that she tried skin bleaching and hates her nose. Her parents are elated she is marrying a white man because they will have "pretty babies". They act like my son is some of God. Frankly, it pisses me off that they reinforce these ideas about "beauty". Anyway, she says she hopes their babies have my son's nose and not hers. My son said he doesn't care as long as the babies are healthy. I hope my grandchildren won't face cruelty about looks 😢
The real ignorant people are those who comment essentialist remarks like "Filipinos are racists" or whatever. Historical and social contexts play a role in the dynamics of every society. In order to change prejudices, we must understand their historical and social roots instead of just demonizing those who have a propensity for them.

Yah Girl are you Filipino? Growing up for me in the Philippines the “N” word wasnt emphasized anywhere that it was deregatory. We didn’t learn that. Not like today’s generation where information is readily available thru social media. Besides (Negritos) is an ethnic group here in the Philippines that are dark skinned with curly hair. That’s why commonly negros/negritos is just usually associated to dark skinned people. Some doesn’t really say it in a bad way just because they don’t know it’s a rascist remark.

"Negro"/"Negra" in the Philippines is not a racial slur. The words are Spanish originally. They mean "black" and is used in exactly the same way as "black" is used in the US. The word is also used in Latin America and Spain with no negative connotations, unlike in the US. "N***er" however _is_ derogatory, but given that the Philippines has no history of African slavery, it's merely a "borrowed" slang street kids get from American movies and hiphop culture. They have no idea about the history behind that word. Merely that it's something white Americans seem to like calling black people to make them mad. So they do it. Kids are cruel that way. Adult Filipinos (generally) do not do that. Because most people _are_ aware of racism in the US, and there are a few half-black celebrities in the Philippines (Jaya, apl.d.ap, etc.). Plus the general non-confrontational culture of the Philippines. In contrast to China for instance where grown-ass people will literally touch your skin to see if the color comes off, or people will run away when they see a black person, because they have very little knowledge of what goes on in western countries. She's a Filipino who grew up in the Philippines. Her own perceptions are that of Filipinos, not of Black Americans, hence why she doesn't really get that angry about it. It's no worse than being teased by other kids for being fat or being poor, etc. It's sad, but it's really not a racial thing. There is no malevolent intent behind the words, in contrast to when you hear it in the US. It's just kids being cruel to kids who look different.
I got called the N word by some kids running by while I was visiting in Manila (that's me in the profile pic) and those street kids were more tanned than me. I was surprised more than anything, not offended. I don't think they meant it the same way like it's meant here in the US. I think it's more of a music/media/movies influence

Growing up in Canada (Toronto) I lived in a predominantly Filipino neighbourhood a lot of them were very rude towards anyone who didn’t look like them, wether it was different skin color, or physical differences (parents and kids alike) They weren’t afraid to let you know you were different to them they loved to ridicule anyone who wasn’t Filipino. Me being Mexican I didn’t get it because I would see a lot of similarities between our cultures and I know now it’s because of our heritage with Spanish colonization. But man did I not trust Filipinos for the longest time after that because they judged me so harshly and I know that’s horrible for me to say now because I moved to another city here in Canada and anyone who is filipino is so nice. That was just my personal experience growing up in that area, I know now as an adult that it was just a small group and not everyone is the same.

Honestly the root of the problem isn't race its minority over majority. If those filpinos went to a school in the south where the population is predominantly white, they'll get segregated and receive prejudice.

I know my ancestors came from different parts of the globe and both my parents are Mexican. Yes i can technically say no I'm not mix but I dont look 100% Mexican. Strangers always think I'm half Asian with some white. Or asian or slavic. But I just say I'm not mix and just Mexican. @Random 94 it's the phenotype that gives us our looks. The dominant gene will express itself as the phenotype . The 1% you are talking about-which really is more than 1%- is more like blue eyes expressing itself when both parents have brown eyes. In that case blue eyes are the recessive genes but if both parents carry that recessive gene and they both come together then the child will have blue eyes, where the dominant gene is not expressed.
Don't worry, I'm also not mixed. I'm fully at least82% Filipino and rest Chinese, but I'm Filipino. People sometime defined me as something else like Chinese, Korean, but I wonder why. Ome time I was with a friend, we were talking on internet with a random stranger, that person defined my friend as an Indian (he's also Filipino) and me as a Korea, totally mind blowing and very strange. 7Nexus21 She looks more like someone from South/Central America than Chinese. A lot of native looking Filipinos have heavy South Chinese features, especially the noses and brow ridge. I am racially ambiguous myself and I stand out like a sore thumb in a crowd of Filipinos, Chinese and pretty much any Asian group that I have interacted with. There are certainly strong phenotypes leftover in some of our genes that came from an unknown foreign source, it could historically be the Spaniards and Latin Americans or the very recent Americans and countless other visitors or migrants to the country.
And yet if the half black girl was in Africa she would considered beautiful for being light skinned but also teased for it. At the end of the day people want what they don’t have.

As someone who’s half black half Filipino, I really appreciated this video. Even in America, colorism in the filipino community is strong, and I’m really happy that this video brought more of it into light for those who don’t think about it a lot.
as long as you’re half mixed white, western or asian (commonly chinese, japanese, korean) you are treated well in ph. Just my observation since I am pure filipino that often confused as half korean or japanese coz of my slant eyes, even my pure filipino classmates who have dark skin are bullied.
@@robinhood7874 nobody said that, but in general, mixed people (of any race mixxed) tend to be more attractive than their parents. Their faces are more symmetrical and they often take the good traits from each race. No need to be salty. I say that as a non mixed girl.

Having went to elementary & high school in the Philippines, I can say the generally, the half white filipinos are always considered beautiful and almost everyone is fascinated about them. It is true that a lot of filipinos [unfortunately] consider a whiter/paler complexion as beautiful and clean, while a darker complexion would be considered as "ugly" and "dirty." I remember back in elementary when there was this darker Indian kid in the lower year who was bullied because of her skin colour. Other students (even high school kids!!!) would call her stinky, and would make fun of her name. I never understood this because she actually smelled okay. Whereas on the other hand, when we had a half-white transfer student, everyone wanted to be her friend and always complimented her. I remember my JS prom partner even wanted to ditch me for her (yup. bad memories for me lol). I usually hear stories from Japan/Korea that halfers get bullied because they look different from a typical Japanese/Korean. But in the philippines, it's completely opposite!! In fact, if you look like a general filipino (dark skin, flat nose, short, etc), you get made fun of!! In your OWN country!! I wish filipinos would embrace the darker skin colour because it's a part of our ancestry.

The experience of growing up as half nigerian half filipino is also different if you went to private and public school. It's worse in public school, even Filipino teachers can be very racist towards black kids. The amount of ignorance is very high at least this was our experience growing up in the 90s 2000s in the ph. I haven't been home in the PH for almost a decade now, and I'm still struggling with the trauma that I went through as a child.
The light skinned Filipina has 100% Filipina accent, 100% filipina facial expressions, and gestures. If you look closely, she does look half Filipina and half white, but only physically.

People don't want to admit it, but racially homogeneous countries in asia are very "racist." "Racist" might not even be the right term, because they don't even mean to be. They have no ill intent. It's just that so many prejudices are hardwired into their culture and they *don't notice it*, and it's because they don't encounter "outsiders" or "foreigners" in a regular basis. That's the scary part. They're blind to their prejudices. Recall all those japanese reactions on youtube to the "but we're speaking Japanese" video. It's something similar to that. What's worse, is that because of colonialism, in some countries like the Philippines, they've attached these prejudices to your race. So for example if you're Caucasian, then you must be filthy rich, therefore it's okay to rob/cheat/steal from you since you have money to spare. "You're white, you're probably just a sex tourist or a rich well off backpacking globetrotter." If you're dark skinned, you must be poor, or thuggish, because you're skin has darkened since you've spent a lot of days doing manual labour and working under the sun, therefore you must be feared because you might be a criminal.

Many filipinos do that normally. smiling and laughing a lot and saying kaya and that they can do it. might really just be a thing here for some of us but might also be a recent trend to just laugh and smile things away. people tend to add extra hahahas, lols, and emojis here to lighten the mood.

Yes, a child is usually curious about people that look different, but whether they react positive or negatively toward those people depends on influences from their family and environment. Children are very impressionable, so if they hear negative things about people that look a certain way, they may not question those ideas until much later in life.
Children aren’t born racist, but once they develop a sense of self, they may start to be. If not taught properly, it will over take them. This is not a common opinion these days, but I believe many Americans have grown up and put aside racist thoughts. I am Filipino and many older Filipinos are indeed prejudicial/racist in some form or fashion, it’s very common. I’ve managed to get out of any of those mindsets left over from the older generation simply by hanging out with people from all backgrounds. Living in Houston, it came very naturally, but I understand how homogenous cities may have a harder time.
I'm a tanned Northern Mindanao boy, and I got called "negro" a couple of times when i was a kid.
300 years of Spanish rule, and it's unfortunate that the SPANISH WORD for BLACK is negro.
We even have a delicacy called Paella negra.
Unlike the US, an african-filipino is a rarity, so rare that kids that get to see one has a hard time reacting.
(Imagine a kindergarten of majority brown or fair skinned filipinos and then there's an african-filipino mixed in the pack) From what i saw in my own eyes, they (even our Aeta brothers in the North) are just being TEASED like a lot.
I doesn't help that within our community even, kids tease other dark-skinned boys(like me) all the time.
It just slowly disappears as you grow up though. You have to be a dumb adult or teenager to tease me for my skin :D

I'm half japanese half filipino and I can vouch for this 100%. You will be treated differently. The thing is Filipinos won't consider you truly filipino and my japanese side won't either so I'm stuck in a weird place of being a hybrid. Also people will automatically think that you're rich for some reason. One time I applied for a government ID and I was interrogated if I'm really a Filipino citizen. I had to supply additional files to back up my claim which is insane 😑

I have cousins who are half Japanese but we never treat them any differently. I guess it will always have to do with the upbringing of the certain person. They identify themselves as Japanese and we respect that but we never treated them in a very different way just like everybody else. Our family treat them the way they treat everybody else in the family. One thing that makes it this way is that one way or another, whether they are born in Japan or not, they still have some of our family blood that runs through them. When you are a family or becomes too close in our family then you will be treated how we treat each other, with love and respect. I love them because they teach me everything about Japanese culture and I teach them our culture as well. If people have been raised as appreciative and open-minded in accepting differences and understanding them, then no one will have to be treated differently. We too are of Spanish descent but we were never treated differently.

I'm half-korean and half-filipino, I am born in korea and have lived 13 years of my life here in the philippines (now I'm 23 years old). I kinda relate to some of these girls' story, but i don't really feel discriminated whilst staying here. A couple of times, yes. But not to the point that they go full-on ridiculing me. The korean influence in the ph actually makes my heart flutter. Having some korean touch on almost anything that I stumble upon. In tvs, ads, foods, and even our language. The hospitality and kindness is one of the reasons that I love it in here. Nakakapangpangiti sakin ang mga tao dito. :)

This girl is Filipina, why are the comments explaining what negra is in the Philippines as if she doesnt know. I am full Filipino, but I definitely have experienced discrimination by my elementary classmates for having a deep or morena complexion. I have an inferiority complex growing up and it reflects in my attitude also. So definitely, I empathize with the half-Nigerian lady. And I feel sad that there is a lack of representation for morena people in the entertainment industry, it affects a lot of young people on how they feel about themselves. This is a sad scenario in the Philippines.

I am surprised the African mixed one has not resented humanity because of that. Being in a place with very few people like you as well as having random people hurling insults at you constantly can really make you a dark person. Yet, the vibes i get from her are very gentle and kind. Her parents did a good job in building her confidence for adulthood and not allowing her to lose herself because of the environment. As a Filipino kid, I also had half-black classmates back then, they were always being teased and called "Negro/Baluga" in a demeaning way. I felt bad for them that's why I befriended them and made them feel comfortable with people in public, especially in school. I think it's the parents fault for not giving awareness to kids to respect other's ethnicity, even I am guilty of having such parents, because they think black people live in the mountains and are uncivilized. And yes, we also have black people in the Philippines and they usually live in the mountains, isolated, and separated from the rest of us.
The Filipino race is the most diversed. Historically, the Philippines was colonized by many countries so generally speaking, Filipinos are of mixed race (be it of Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, American, Malay). Presently, anywhere in the world you go, you can find a Filipino married to a local. So you cannot really specify what a Filipino looks like.

Your statement is a bit misleading. The Filipinos are diverse, but not to the extent you're claiming. Filipinos are overwhelmingly of Malay stock with a large percentage of Chinese mixed in, and thats about it. There is a significant number of mixed European/American as well as with other Asian races like Korean and Japanese with Filipinos but its not that big compared to the population as a whole. You make it seem like every Filipino you come across will be a mix of all those nationalities, when in reality thats not true at all. Maybe less than 10% of Filipinos will be mixed with all kinds of other races mainly other Asians and another 30% mixed with Chinese blood.
Filipinos are *ethnically* diverse almost homogenous, not racially one. It is estimated that 10% of Filipinos have Chinese ancestry and only about 3% have European mix with about 1% being mixed with others. Admit it that we are mostly 99% of Austronesian stock. Half Filipinos are simply over represented in the entertainment industry giving us the impression of being racially diverse.

Not everyone is mixed and there is always a certain psychic characteristic pinoys know when they know someone who is a Filipino.
If your are caucasian mixed you will definitely garner a lot more respect and be viewed a lot more "beautiful" in general from my experience growing up. I had good friend of mine who is filipino/german and my filipino relatives always viewed him quite positively. In fact, I remember growing up and being told to marry another filipino, but they would also be fine if they were "white". Its frustrating at times to deal with their backwards thinking, but different times I guess.

A lot of the things they said are a reality for half-Filipinos. I am Korean-Filipino and growing up, I had some difficulty relating with some of my classmates and friends because of cultural differences. And I always remembered being annoyed because people around me always thought I was rich and would always ask me to treat them. As for racist comments, Filipinos tend to make jokes that are insensitive and tend to cross the line. One of my classmates in highschool even said “Go back to Korea” as a joke and would always ask me stupid questions about Korea. But in their credit, they always tried to bridge that cultural boundary and would be specially friendly. Something that I am proud of to be a Korean-Filipino.

I remember when I was in elementary and high school, I was studying in a chinese school, and I remember being insulted by random kids outside the school, like kids from neighboring schools, and they were calling me, and my other schoolmates, “intsik beho” or similar stuff. I just found this video. My son is marrying a Filipino girl next week. He thinks she is absolutely beautiful! She has a flat broad nose and dark skin like most Filipinos. It breaks my heart to hear that she tried skin bleaching and hates her nose. Her parents are elated she is marrying a white man because they will have "pretty babies". They act like my son is some of God. Frankly, it pisses me off that they reinforce these ideas about "beauty".

"Negro"/"Negra" in the Philippines is not a racial slur. The words are Spanish originally. They mean "black" and is used in exactly the same way as "black" is used in the US. The word is also used in Latin America and Spain with no negative connotations, unlike in the US.
"N***er" however _is_ derogatory, but given that the Philippines has no history of African slavery, it's merely a "borrowed" slang street kids get from American movies and hiphop culture. They have no idea about the history behind that word. Merely that it's something white Americans seem to like calling black people to make them mad. So they do it. Kids are cruel that way.
Adult Filipinos (generally) do not do that. Because most people _are_ aware of racism in the US, and there are a few half-black celebrities in the Philippines (Jaya, apl.d.ap, etc.). Plus the general non-confrontational culture of the Philippines. In contrast to China for instance where grown-ass people will literally touch your skin to see if the color comes off, or people will run away when they see a black person, because they have very little knowledge of what goes on in western countries.
She's a Filipino who grew up in the Philippines. Her own perceptions are that of Filipinos, not of Black Americans, hence why she doesn't really get that angry about it. It's no worse than being teased by other kids for being fat or being poor, etc. It's sad, but it's really not a racial thing. I got called the N word by some kids running by while I was visiting in Manila (that's me in the profile pic) and those street kids were more tanned than me. I was surprised more than anything, not offended. I don't think they meant it the same way like it's meant here in the US. I think it's more of a music/media/movies influence

Growing up in Canada (Toronto) I lived in a predominantly Filipino neighbourhood a lot of them were very rude towards anyone who didn’t look like them, wether it was different skin color, or physical differences (parents and kids alike) They weren’t afraid to let you know you were different to them they loved to ridicule anyone who wasn’t Filipino. Me being Mexican I didn’t get it because I would see a lot of similarities between our cultures and I know now it’s because of our heritage with Spanish colonization. But man did I not trust Filipinos for the longest time after that because they judged me so harshly and I know that’s horrible for me to say now because I moved to another city here in Canada and anyone who is filipino is so nice. That was just my personal experience growing up in that area, I know now as an adult that it was just a small group and not everyone is the same.

Honestly the root of the problem isn't race its minority over majority. If those filpinos went to a school in the south where the population is predominantly white, they'll get segregated and receive prejudice.

Elizabeth Torren I know what you mean especially in the U.S people like to split into their own groups, same thing in Toronto, it being the biggest city in Canada and honestly being the most American like city here. Each ethnicity sticks to their own. Which is crazy because everywhere else here everyone is just coexisting, I mean my neighbours are all different ethnicities from Ukrainian, Arabic, Asian, White, Black and many more and we all live together and respect each other I still don’t get why other places don’t learn from that! Not mixed but no one guesses my ethnicity correctly, and when I tell them people say “But you don’t look ___” which made me very self conscious but I’ve learned to accept it. We’re all unique in our own ways and should appreciate our differences :)
I know my ancestors came from different parts of the globe and both my parents are Mexican. Yes i can technically say no I'm not mix but I dont look 100% Mexican. Strangers always think I'm half Asian with some white. Or asian or slavic. But I just say I'm not mix and just Mexican. @Random 94 it's the phenotype that gives us our looks. The dominant gene will express itself as the phenotype . The 1% you are talking about-which really is more than 1%- is more like blue eyes expressing itself when both parents have brown eyes. In that case blue eyes are the recessive genes but if both parents carry that recessive gene and they both come together then the child will have blue eyes, where the dominant gene is not expressed.

Ome time I was with a friend, we were talking on internet with a random stranger, that person defined my friend as an Indian (he's also Filipino) and me as a Korea, totally mind blowing and very strange. 7Nexus21 She looks more like someone from South/Central America than Chinese. A lot of native looking Filipinos have heavy South Chinese features, especially the noses and brow ridge. I am racially ambiguous myself and I stand out like a sore thumb in a crowd of Filipinos, Chinese and pretty much any Asian group that I have interacted with. There are certainly strong phenotypes leftover in some of our genes that came from an unknown foreign source, it could historically be the Spaniards and Latin Americans or the very recent Americans and countless other visitors or migrants to the country.
And yet if the half black girl was in Africa she would considered beautiful for being light skinned but also teased for it. At the end of the day people want what they don’t have.
She won't be considered a light-skinned Nigerian. A lot of fully Nigerian people have her colour. She would be considered completely one of us until she speaks and we hear a different accent.

Having went to elementary & high school in the Philippines, I can say the generally, the half white filipinos are always considered beautiful and almost everyone is fascinated about them. It is true that a lot of filipinos [unfortunately] consider a whiter/paler complexion as beautiful and clean, while a darker complexion would be considered as "ugly" and "dirty." I remember back in elementary when there was this darker Indian kid in the lower year who was bullied because of her skin colour. Other students (even high school kids!!!) would call her stinky, and would make fun of her name. I never understood this because she actually smelled okay. Whereas on the other hand, when we had a half-white transfer student, everyone wanted to be her friend and always complimented her. I remember my JS prom partner even wanted to ditch me for her (yup. bad memories for me lol). I usually hear stories from Japan/Korea that halfers get bullied because they look different from a typical Japanese/Korean. But in the philippines, it's completely opposite!! In fact, if you look like a general filipino (dark skin, flat nose, short, etc), you get made fun of!! In your OWN country!!
I wish filipinos would embrace the darker skin colour because it's a part of our ancestry.

I met a few people who were Dominican and Filipino and I have to say that it’s such a beautiful mix.
The experience of growing up as half nigerian half filipino is also different if you went to private and public school. It's worse in public school, even Filipino teachers can be very racist towards black kids. The amount of ignorance is very high at least this was our experience growing up in the 90s 2000s in the ph. I haven't been home in the PH for almost a decade now, and I'm still struggling with the trauma that I went through as a child.

I’m half white and Filipino born and raised in the USA 🇺🇸 and I have been bullied all my life by pure Filipinos American Filipinos and Asians in general and white people are worse... I was never welcomed into anything... or culture wise so I always hanged out by myself... people that are not half Filipino don’t know how much hell we have to put up with... Filipinos in the Philippines are brainwashed to think half Filipino get treated in royalty when in reality we get bullied and get excluded from the Filipino race
