My Critique of the technical aspects of this video:
Synopsis: Your Best. Presentation. *Ever!* This is broadcast film making quality from beginning to end.
      Direction, Pace, & Subject Continuity = A
      Cinematography & Editing = A+
      Sound = B+
Themes, Tone, & Engaging Narrative flow = A
Effectively Capturing the Essence of the Subjects' meaning = A
You know I am one of your harshest critics. This presentation is worthy, almost as is, of re-broadcast on the BBC, PBS, EBU, or Africa Documentary Knysna Festival.. Excellent work my Brother.

Cool vid, Mr. Ranzo. Quick questions: 1) Has a full vid of Mr. Jefferson been posted? Can't seem to find it. 2) Forgive me for asking, but do you have any formal/informal "relationship" with the governments of any of the countries in which you're filming?

I have been in Japan for a year now... I concur. It wasn't immediate, but about 4 or 5 months into my time here in Japan's countryside, I found myself feeling like I was letting out a breath I had somehow been holding onto my entire life... I was walking back to my apartment after drinking at the ramen shop nearby... It was 1am and I suddenly stopped, looked around at how still and quiet everything was and felt like "Wow... I can breathe..."

@NUMBER ELEVEN Sorry. I wouldn't know anything about that. I'm not Asian, nor do I come from a "black country". Considering the specificity of the topic of this video, and the fact that you are curious about the exact opposite thing, I'm sure there is a more appropriate place for your question... On a different video addressing just that perhaps? Don't know if one exists, but it wouldn't hurt for you to look.

I felt the same feeling when I visited seaside Odaiba. Usually in Amerikkka Im stressed out in crowds because everybody looks at you crazy here. In japan, they just stare, and you smile back and say a greeting, they reciprocate, sometimes I just wanted to cry, othertimes I felt bad for being so upset over Amerikkka in their country. Yea, I loved it there.

Why will there opinion be any different now, I understand if you’re were talking about the folks that are living in China because China completely mishandle the containment of the virus. But at this point COVD 19 is causing havoc pretty much on the entire world, so no country is safe from the virus except South Korea and Japan, Taiwan and Southeast Asia they seem to be doing better than US and Europe in handling the virus for now. So if I was someone not living in the US or Europe I will be interested in how people that live there are holding out because from what the world is seeing the US is not doing well especially now because other countries are closing their borders to Americans.

Its definitely the media and its also the generational racism that white people keep teaching to their kids🤦🏾‍♀️ as a black person we aren't bad people, we're great when we are respected just like any other person, but America was built on the bare back of racism and sadly those same ideals have been taught through multiple generations so people still think horrible things about us and its not fair...

    • @wondertrip
      @wondertrip 5 років тому +3

This documentary is very shallow and poorly researched, and the comments of those interviewed are extremely naive. For example: (1) Chinese are just as racist as White people [@JU94]; (2) Japanese car companies based in the United States repeatedly lost law suits for discriminating against Black UAW members and others [@t; and (3) as reported by the CIA Fact Book, the largest ethic groups in Japan are the Japanese at 98.1%, followed by Chinese at 0.5%, Korean at 0.4%, and all other ethnic groups (including Filipino, Vietnamese, and Brazilian) by 1%. Black people are blatantly insignificant in Japan and throughout Asia, and consequently, they are not perceived as a threat. However, "if" Black people (especially Black men) existed as a dominate demographic in business, sports, entertainment, etc., we can expect Japan (which supported racist Germany in WWII), China, etc., to do exactly like White people (@t.

My colleagues treat me with respect at work and my neighbors are wonderful. It's only when I travel to Western countries that I truly feel the ugliness of racism.

I am a Japanese high school student. This video felt very fresh. I think most Japanese people recognize whether they are Japanese or not. So it has nothing to do with blacks or whites. You may feel the line of sight. But that's because blacks are rare. Some people want to be black because of hip-hop and black culture. The prejudice against blacks is that they are tall, good at dancing & good at singing lol By the way, until now I couldn't understand the "black cultural appropriation problem". I really like nice hairstyles, dance and all kinds of black culture. But we Asians were skeptical that they couldn't imitate. "Blm" taught me a lot. In the West, I didn't know how hard I was feeling (I knew it, but I thought it was different now), so I was very shocked. If you think a black person is discriminated against by a Japanese person, please know that it is not malicious. (It's not malicious, but it's very sad to hurt my heart.) Japan has to change, but I think it will take some time. When the corona pandemic is over, please come visit us in Japan! ((I used Google Translate, so I'm sorry if it's a strange sentence))

You are a real human being so sweet and innocent a perfect creation of God so humane and loving please stay 🙏 ❤️ 💕 so loving because God is love.
God in his infinite wisdom 🙏 created man in his own image 🙏 .
Something happened when the Morning Star in the Bible sinned in thought and a war saw Michael and the angels kicked the Morning Star out of Heaven. The deviant turned into a super corrupted monster and snake, evil, deceitful and depraved.
A war is being fought in the minds of humans. The enemy whispers depravity and inhumanity in the minds of men and their character, their soul becomes a reflection of the Monster. Satan wants man to join him and his demons when they are all locked in hell for eternity where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
The Word was in the begining and became man, He lived amongst men; but the world knew Him not.
He came to atone for our sins, He was crucified and died to put to pay for the sins of man as Jesus was the son of man.
He was in the tomb for three days, He rose again. 🌹 when rising he went down into hell and took the key and left as hell had no business with Him as He was without blame.
Witnesses saw Jesus and that the stone had been moved. Believe that Jesus is real and chase all evil thoughts from your mind. Love God ❤️ 😍 He loves us. Believe that we can be free from all evil and that the flesh dies but our spirit and our soul live forever. God loves ❤️ 😍 you Hallelujah ❤️.

I never experienced the level of racism American black people have. I don't fear any race in Canada, there is racism anywhere you go but no where on the level of the black Americans. I do suggest you to tell anyone you know that everyone outside of America that is black, comes from a totally different experience ( we all think the American culture towards black people is literally sociopathic!!!! ). I think you all should leave and go where you are accepted - period. there is safety, you can create it or go where your people is. Trust me, there is love from your people globally just not in America. Dont be afraid of leaving America, they literally make their nation think all you need is America. Its farrrrrrr from the truth, youll be amazed how much you are appreciated and respected outside of that hell!

Let me say one thing as a Japanese.
Someone may treat black people differently from Japanese, but that never means we are racist! They just don't get used to 'foreigners' 😂
As you guys know, Japan is an island and many people don't have opportunities talking with foreigners so much. However, once they find nationality doesn't matter, they will definitely help you! Of course I'm willing to!!
Japan is one of the safest countries. If you leave your wallet somewhere, most people deliver it to the police and your money, credit card, or passport are returned to you! Even if your are a girl, you don't need to give up solo trip here!

Media could be used in a variety of manner, be it to educate or to indoctrinate. sure, we got a lotta shit in the media doing a lotta shit to people, yet there's also a good being in media contents. Living in the U.S. entailed adopting the mindset that I am somehow less than lighter skinned people. It's self defeating trying to absorb the post slavery period of this country especially in the 21st century. I was raised to know that I am valuable. As someone who lived in South Korea for 6 months, I agree with all these sentiments. I have been back in the US for over a year now, and I miss the feelings I had in Korea every day.
For context, I am a recent college grad who has been working as a Software Engineer for half a year at a pretty well-known company, and the hostility I get at work is unlike anything I have ever experienced in my life. I'm pretty good at my job, but some people can't get past the fact that I'm black and still go out of there way to make life hard for me. It's pathetic.
But, I am a very optimistic and happy person. I have friends and family all over the world that I talk to keep me afloat. I have been to other countries and have seen the world outside of the US. There are people all over the world that love us and will treat us much better than how we're treated in the US. This has been my experience. Don't fall into the trap that the world is against black people. We are living in a time where people around the world are waking up to the fact that all the things they learned about black people through western media were lies.
I plan to move out of the US in a few years and start working towards a career as a professor, but in the meantime, I'm going to make the most money I can in the US to help my family, establish a good financial safety net, and put that money towards resources that can help my community.
If you are a black person living in the US but can't immediately move, please know that you are not alone and there are people here to support you. I want you to succeed and live your most fulfilled life. In the meantime, use your situation as motivation to pursue your goal. That is what I have done and it has me gotten far. I didn't come from much, but through my efforts, I was admitted to a top school in the US, got an engineering degree, and got a high-paying job. But money cannot replace happiness. I'm certainly planning to ultimately move to a country in Africa, but Asia may be an intermediate stop.
If you are a black person living in the US and enjoy your life, I'm happy for you and want you to find prosperity wherever you may reside. Continue to thrive and show the world how great you are!

I want to work/live/travel and teach every 4 months in a different country. Spain, Italy, France, and perhaps China or Japan are countries I prefer. As a progressive forward thinking African American lady, I believe traveling is important for black people and collectively we should do it as much as our resources allows us to. Plus, living in America is not good for black people. I have my passport and I know the world is my oyster.

As an Asian american person, this was an interesting documentary. I’m also planning to move to Japan for work after graduating university, mainly because i find myself identifying more with the collectivist views in Japan. Asian countries and people are not free of racism, we can see this in the recent backlash Sam Okyere in South Korea received when he wanted to call out blackface. However, I feel that a lot of the acts of racism come from places of misunderstanding/lack of knowledge regarding the implications of certain statements or actions, not deeply rooted hate. Additionally, because of the public safety in these places, even if people had some prejudice towards black folks the chances of those sentiments manifesting into violence would be quite low.

Im 51 and I remember the day that I was brought to the realization that my skin was more than just a complexion I was born into.
I was brought to the realization that my skin had its own history and its own voice separate from anything I could ever think to say of or to myself that not only preceded my existence but that goes before me in situations and pre-establishes certain outcomes.
I had to realize that my skin, all by itself, had a legacy of its own and had a huge mantle attached to it that I would have to learn how to carry rather I thought it fair or not regardless of who I am on the inside. I had to realize the duality of being both a person and a melinated person and the struggle that comes with that duality. I had to recognize that fear and humility would be 2 of my gate keepers rather I wanted them around or not.
I was in elementary school when this awakening occurred and I can honestly say there has not been a season at all in my life since then, where I can say I haven't felt hated in this society for being in this skin at one point or another. There isn't a season at all where I can say I didn't feel threatened by the fact that I exist here in this country filled with individuals who wish I had never happened or hated me simply because of this skin.
There hasn't been a season at all where I could say I felt 100% loved, safe free or even equal to everyone else around me. No time where I haven't been either verbally, socially, economically or even spiritually attacked because of my skin's existence.
I've spent my entire life hoping and wanting to know what peace, freedom and equality truly feels like and after seeing this video, a part of me wants to move to Singapore just so I could breathe easy after 51 years of hate/Jim Crow/Oppression/Abuse and Terror in America. If I had the money to move to Singapore, Id do it 1st thing January 2020. What a way to start the New Year that would be. What an amazing fantasy.
