I really enjoyed the discussion and all the information both you had to offer. Thank you so much! I would love a deeper dive on the black-and-white Winterland concert-that is my favorite KISS bootleg video!
What a great idea: talking (with lots of context and info) about all those classic bootlegs/concerts. Thanx a lot, guys!!!! Julien, you said something during this episode that can be explored later for a whole episode lenght:" you wanted the best you got them" - a list with the best versions available of all those classic KISS videos. I mean, you guys could select 10/15 classic concerts and talk about the better versions available (or not)of those. Where to find them, are those on UA-cam, or anywhere else. You can even include the best available to official releases. As Andrew mentioned, the stuff on Kissology sometimes doesn't have the best quality available.
Cool podcast! I remember having a VHS copy of the MSG encores only during the early / mid 80s (much like the Largo 75 encores only for years). I think, if memory serves me correct, the full show first surfaced in the late 80s.
I was at that KISS show in Houston in 1976, age 11. Thanks for explaining that the Summit had an in-house video system back then as I always find myself having to do the same thing! 😁
Love the podcast! I am from Long Island ny myself but just to let you guys know Nassau coliseum is an indoor arena I heard you guys say outdoors just to correct yall! But totally right msg was like they made it as headliners
I remember my sister in law told me that she seen them in January, ‘78 at The Spectrum in Philly. Definitely the loudest show she ever saw, up to the point. She couldn’t remember who opened, but I told her that it was a group called, The Rockets. She still has the Tour book.
since you guys several times mentioned venues with inhouse camera crews ,....is there still any further rumors goin around of some possible u.s. footage from the creatures tour or possibly any pro shot footage from the asylum tour in those mentioned venues
@kissfaq NYC February 77 was also shot from different angles. The Japanese DVD Masterseries first run came with a bonus dvd with a different angle. It was placed behind the other cameras and give a better idea of the show and the event in general. The sound is also different. Not the line feed but a rather rough yet very cool video camera feed (?!). Largo 77 also had a bonus disc, as did Anaheim with both a totally different (set of) angle(s).
@@andrewsgambati yes it is watermarked. But I doubt it is 8mm. Am no expert though. It is filmed from the pit from an angle right behind the video camera of the well known version with a broad stage view. Had never seen it and was suprised by this footage on the bonus disc. Never seen it anywhere. Julian has a copy now. So you can compare if you like.
Peter Criss, in some way, was the real soul of the band. At least, pre 1978/79. Ace, on the other hand, couldn't care less about their February 18, 1977 Garden gig. NOT according to Bobby McAdams. Ace did the soundcheck earlier in the day, then he went home to Irvington, NY & basically started drinking. A LOT! When the evening approached, McAdams said Ace didn't even wanna go down to MSG. Ace was delaying more & more. He put on his makeup in the speedin' limo. His makeup looks sloppy on those pics. G & P were pissed off!
Wonder why the clips they used for Houston 77 shows on exposed came from a very lively print ,but on the kissology they used very murky and dark ones ,i have seen better fan versions around.
@@andrewsgambati I don't know how I could have missed it. Its an amazing movie. I'm so gratefull you did this on my favorite era which certainly wasn't very popular. Great job.
I'd say the film crew for the MSG show on February 18th 1977 was the one from Cobo Hall, since the Only one of three nights shows that surfaced from Detroit 1977 in 2006 has the very same camera angles than MSG 77, that makes sence to me, Bill Aucoin could hired them to record the show
That's right Andrew, yeah... I came to this theory cause the camera angles, and the same kind of quality images those cameras got, anyway should be a possibility
I don't agree. The band hired a crew to film the February 1977 show. It's not clear when MSG got their own inhouse crew but after reviewing photos from the December 1977 shows I was not able to locate any cameras. While reviewing photos from the February 77 show I can easily spot cameras as they were huge at the time.
It wasn't, but it has been included on Xtreme Closeup and Konfidential. All the 90's official VHS releases looked better than KISSology. Or as I like to call it, ASSology.
@@andrewsgambati Thank you for the time you put into the work, both of you. There is a whole lot more I could say ...however there are Aliens and citing´s of UFO´s, who are obviously not happy when others like yourself have popularity for example ? Amazing was how these droppings of Poo and sheet came out through the mouth 😵 ..thanks again. Love the reply you gave 🤣

I think this show is fantastic (sound and visual). Love it.
Context! Delicious, nutritious, wonderful context and detail. Bravo gentlemen.
Great topic! Thanks guys!
I'm going to love this podcast Julian...love hearing about the archived concerts on video
How in the heck did KISS not film their 3 night stand in DEC 1977?!! Its criminal!
KISS bootlegs - one of my favourite topics! Love it guys!

Great show. Would love a best of cd recordings list
I used to trade video tapes with collectors that would add glitches so your copy would be a little worse than theirs. 😡

Asylum was shot in Nashville by Glickman/Marks. Sadly it's silent, but at this time that's the only footage around.

It’s 100% an 8mm filmer. It’s from the front row and not the pit. I’ve had it for several years.

I've said the same since 2007
Any chance Andrew's HITS Tour video ever sees the light?
I released Rise To It in December 2022. If you look, you can find it on UA-cam :)
@@andrewsgambati I don't know how I could have missed it. Its an amazing movie. I'm so gratefull you did this on my favorite era which certainly wasn't very popular. Great job.
If Lydia Criss still has her copy, I'd say that would probably be the clearest copy of MSG77
I doubt that. Her copy would either be a 1977 VHS or Beta. Both would have degraded over the years

So if MSG 1977 should exist...then one (if not all 3) MSG's from the Alive 2 should exist (ya think) in some form or another

Always wanting the limelight, always plays with his hair, that’s strange, Andrew was Sam Loomis it’s so obvious.
The quick head shaking like he's Peter Criss is damn annoying. The show should be retitled Inner Sanctimonious.
