Nice video, but just a quick note, with 12 V you want to use the biggest wire you can and the shortest wire you can.
Think of the electricity like water in a pipe, the voltage is the pressure and the amperage is the volume. To get more volume with low pressure you need a larger pipe. Same with the electricity. 👍🏻

I recommend something like this 4" Power Distribution Terminal Block Battery Bus Bar Set - Max. 300V AC / 48V DC you can clean up your setup a lot. Get rid of the claps and move batts all together.

Hi, just watched this video for the 3rd time. Last year for hurricane season I purchased the kit and didn't open it until yesterday. Im planning on doing the same thing using 3 or 4 batteries. My question is, do you still thi KS its worth doing with the 12v 35ah or save up and get a bigger battery setup? Thanks 😊😊
I have been playing with the solar panels from even from the early 3 panel kits. And these controllers are normally PWM. If you upgrade to a cheap Epever MPPT Solar Charge Controller Tracer Power Regulator 10/20/30/40A PV100V.. You will harvest much more power. And you will be able to use a get a wifi adapter with this and allow you to connect to cell phone and see all your data. And allow you to adjust as well as see power created and battery power and more.
Believe it or not mmpt charge controllers dont give much more power for amorphous solar panels bc i learned that the hard way and sometimes it give less power bc there max power voltage is much lower than polycrystalline or monocrystaline solar panels
I would recommend 2AWG wire between batteries or better yet a bus bar set. Also, for just a little bit more money for each battery get full sized, deep cycle marine batteries which have a tleast 3 times the capacity each or if you want to save a lot of weight get a VTOMAN solar charger. The smallest one, the 600X has something like 299 amp hours and weighs 14 lbs. You can even get a 600+ amp hour extended battery for it too. The larger versions have 1000 and 1500 amp hours and have their own 1500 amp hour extended batteries as well.
Many laptops now have a USB-C port. Many times you can charge your laptop by plugging a USB-C cable and plugging the other end into the USB ports on the charge control. I have a Dell tablet/laptop that I charge this way and it works fine. One drawback is, it will only charge the laptop when its off.
Question number one of those Thunderbolt solar panels I didn't hear if you were and the wiring on them to cut and splice wiring which one is the hot which one's the ground is the white striped one the ground or hot

You can buy Battery terminal ends and , battery cable and Make Your own jumpers .
That looks like the Centex 750 watt continues 1500 peak inverter. It will only surge to 1500. It's practical output is 750 watt nominal. You totally need a larger inverter. Very good informative video. Thanks for sharing.
Explain the math used to calculate three batteries at 35 amperage each equals “1260 combined“ as stated at the 3:55 mark.
Two 100 watt panels from harbor freight would fit perfect in each window. 100 watts is not much power, but depending on the available sun light you have on those windows it can be decent amount. If you get 5 hours of sun you get 500 watt hours, a typical tv draws 125 to 150 watts. So if a typical tv runs for 5 hours, that energy is gone.
My 55 inch led draw 72 watts my old 32 inch led was 40 watts think your TV might be drawing too much power my tvs are 5 plus years old so I would think a new would be less power but who knows

Add movable reflectorz, use mirrored Mylar or shiny side of heavy duty aluminium on roller or 4x8 sheets of foam or thin plywood or canvas rolling system double your power
Mylar is amazing. A lot of people use it for indoor growing.
most laptops run 12 to 24 volt only run the inverter if you have to, 15 to 20% loss in the inverter /run direct when you can . inverters are only efficient when there at 1/2 to 3/4 load

Hook up to the power grid! LOL Honestly with the wish list of things you want to power you'd need a ton of solar panels, a massive battery bank, and a very large power inverter.
Cool but this leaves me with questions. I.e. How long would it take to charge up these 3 or 6 batteries, would you need more panels to charge up 6 batteries? Is it worth your time and cost, in other words, with what you have invested how long is it going to take to break even -- batteries were $76, the solar kit was $195 at HF = at least $423 (without the jumpers and inverter) So how many months to break even....Either way I'm planning to get a kit for my Travel trailer.
I would steer clear of the HF kits. Just purchase a couple or more 100 watt panels, or the cool 240/250 watt panels. Then get El cheapo charge controller about $20. Get a Chinese 3000 watt inverter and you can run a lot.
I'm a little confused on how to connect my converter to the solar panel. I have the same solar panel setup and brand. The battery is connected to the control panel but the converter didn't come with any chords to connect the negative and positive setup. Do I just also connect the converter to the Sam spot on the battery the solar panels are connected to? If never hooked up an Amp or any solar before. Any help would be awesome. Currently trying to get power
I'm assuming the battery can be charging at the same time I'm using the inverter but knowing exactly where the inverter connects would be good to know.
Do u think my 4 240w panels can run on a couple 35ah batteries and what size inverter for panels that =960 watts
With that many watts you should consider using bigger batteries. The 35ah battery at harbor freight is $69,but you can buy 105ah marine battery for around $125 from an auto parts store. With your panels you could easily keep 4 of those charged and have real decent backup or main power at your disposal. With a properly sized inverter you can easily run a fridge,lights,charge devices,run a fan or two. You've got alot of potential. Also( if your budget allows) consider some 6 volt golf cart batteries for their size and reserve capacity.
@@ciphercode2298 oh ok thanks I sold the 240w panels now I have 8 BYD 340w 144 split cell panels only 4 are actually hooked up I guess ur right I'ma need some better batteries for storage I guess I'ma get a couple cheap 100ah or better lead acid batteries the ones I have now are sealed AGM batteries
@@diysolaradventures7894 I think the harbor freight batteries are agm,which is pretty high quality. Theyll last a good while,but the amp hours are pretty low. you would get more watts depending on the amp hour rating of the batteries. As he said at19:00 minutes, 12v x 105 amps = 1260 watts. More amps, more watts. Or more volts, more watts.
How long does it take to use up your 1500 watts and then replace it? Does it take several days at 100 watts a day?
12 ×105 =1235 watt hours....volts × amps. depends on want you are using is how long it will last.

in order to get 2000 wats from 2 batteries, they would need to be around 100 amp hours each.
... not sure laptop is safe on nonSine power, , , so maybe dc adapter not safe, , , Sine is just more smoothed power but 120volt Some adapters basically cost double, , ,. But for $300 laptop spending $30 more seems worth it, , , , I cld be wrong

Make a video when you blow your computer or burn down your condo because you us d those clips instead of real wire connection. Even 200!watts through the windows won’t power a lot so I wouldn’t spend a lot on inverters. Have fun be safe.

You discharged your batteries down too low tho, should not go below 11.9v or else you will damage them.
You're pretty limited living where you can't access the roof or ground. Why not look into solar generators. They're basically a battery in a box, but they're pretty expensive. Hey use the new lithium ion phosphate type batteries. High dollar.

Dude why did you even waste money on those cheap battery cables ..
They are only 10ga wire at best and probably copper coated aluminum.. You are losing so many watts in those alone...
You could have gone to O'Reilly's and bought 4ga copper leads with eyed ends you could have bolted on ..... and they would have been cheaper than those worthless jumpers....with real copper wire .. .. also those jumpers increase the risk of bad connections/arcing in the circuit along with that power loss ...
Most computers run on 12v or lower .. you can bypass the power supply, use a low draw 12tv for a monitor and save a bunch of power by bypassing not only the inverter but also the stepdown inside your computer tower... of course the laptop is a better choice overall with it s 12v direct and lighter drawing cooling fan....
Also, even though you're stuck to an apartment, you can also use mirrors underneath to collect more sun and direct it to your panels.... every little bit helps...

@@markeddy8731 deep cycle batteries are made to be routinely discharged. It's more important that batteries be recharged slowly and as quickly as possible after discharging.
@@ciphercode2298 You are not suppose to discharge lead acid batteries over 50%. That's about 12 volts, 12.9 to 13.1 is full charge.
