I would advise replacing those clips with a bolt and nut, it will maintain a better connection.

If mounting ,drill out using a 3/8 drill bit and a 5/16 bolt fits in perfectly to anything.

I couldn't see how you attached the ring ends to the battery. Did you just hold them against the batt posts and clip them?

I used alligator clips to connect the regulator to the battery

Can a sealed lead acid battery be used indoors and does it have to remain in an upright position?

Computers, electronics, switcher-type wall wart phone chargers aren't going to like the modified sine wave power coming out of that inverter. Just saying.
Are there cheaper true sine wave inverters in the 300-400 watt range that don't cost an arm and a leg? Maybe a Chinese model?

You are correct. Most don't realize the damage they can do. This a very good inverter for the money. I own one and it works great for a lot of things. You can find it on Amazon pretty cheap. Definitely worth the few extra bucks. BESTEK 500W Pure Sine Wave Power Inverter.
