  • This beautiful mournful ballad was purportedly written by Richard the Lionheart in the 12th Century whilst he was held captive. I have gently elaborated around the melody but kept true to the heart of the song. This is true trouvère music. Enjoy.

There was this documentary about China in which an old guy was playing the guqin, an ancient stringed instrument. That melody was written by Confucius, over 2,500 years ago (obviously, Confuçius had sheet music)! But Plato'ㅅ ,main interests were ts philosophy and

Na h Confucius didn't have sheet music, he probably had music theory developed to write down a song which was also common in ancient Mesopotamia. Ancient complete music theory for a song is seiklios epitaph of ancient Greeks.
But this doesn't mean sheet music or staff notation.
Sheet notation was invented and developed in middle age Europe from 10th century to 13th century. With 14th century staff notation came to it's final form we know today in Europe.

Wow, Richard. Not only did I not know you were a musician, but I also didn't think you had anything that gentle in you. I'd bow to the king, but you've been dead for, what, 800 years?

His mother was the Duke (ruling duchess, rather than a consort duchess) of Aquitaine. It was almost half a century before it was part of France rather than just theoretically controlled by the Count of Paris (who the French Dukes got together and made king because he was unable to stop the dukes from whatever they wanted to do).
