Dom, awesome rundown! Thanks for the AR-1 shoutout, it sounds killer on those drum transients. Great track!!
Thank YOU for this amazing plug-in guys! I literally love everything you make! Clariphonic is another one of my favourites, I think I’ve already talked about this on other videos :)
Hey two masters here, does someone know how i get that Hunting High and Low reverb from A-ha? I am trying the CLA echosphere. Also a video tip for you guys, reverb and 80’s mix vibes
looks like “there is no transient”, so like velvet, a solid cloud of sound
@@DomSigalas Nice !!! Do you use bus compressors before the maximizer/limiter ? If so , Isnt the maximizer taking away that sweetness ?
I wish I could hear the drastic before/after difference that he's hearing lol. On some I can't hear a difference at all.
The song sounds mixed well as is
@@EricJohnson-fh8zj You're not alone.
I wish i could be as happy as Dom when listening back to my work

@@EricJohnson-fh8zj lol
Lol then u should work harder or do another genre! Thats wat i did
😅
@@EricJohnson-fh8zj The song is well mixed already, even though he said it wasn't.
But to hear the difference, listen closely to the kick drum or the snare. That's where it's the most obvious.
Never seen someone so happy and giddy about compressors. Good for him!
KUSH AR-1 stole my heart. Hard to describe but it adds a vibe which fits this particular songs' "contemporary nostalgic" feel.
I can never get over how good this song is
That Portico is👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾 that sounded like actual hardware. The one by Kush was good but that portico made my ears stick up
You know what would be huge? A video on how this song including the vocals was mixed from scratch to fin
Your joy in what you do is infectious. Love it. Kudos.
The Kush was WOW really like a record being played from the radio or somewhere. also the like all the rest after that were all incredible
I dig your inspiration and really appreciate the total effort put into your videos.. I hope you're enjoying what you deserve.. Love from South Africa
I had no idea Seth Rollins was into producing music!
Seriously though, good rundown! I like that you threw in a stock DAW plugin, too. A lot of people sleep on them!
That bx townhouse compressor is a secret weapon on a final master...this has become my mastering comp for every single final master...even though...I use analog gear and nebula...this is a secret weapon
If you like bxTH then you must try PSP busspressor which is 10x better. Then if you like what that does you should try the Vertigo Sound VSC3 (not the plugin Alliance one) and that's the closest to hardware regarding low end tightness and overall natural tone (which the Busspressor nails) but Vertigo's own plugin is even tighter and alot wider than all of the competition. Not cheap though...
Very nice Dom, thanks for sharing. For us beginners in the DAW world, compressors and how to use them properly is a big step, you did a great job showing and explaining. Thank you.
I have to say, I love your channel! Your choice of appropriate material really helped reveal the individual character of each plugin and your demonstration is also teaching fundamental audio principles with concrete examples. I really love how the SSL Native makes this track dance, but the Townsend was my real surprise- also bouncy but it did beautiful things to the singer's voice! The Neve is also brilliant on this, and that's not to discount the rest. Thanks for a great comparison!
😊 Gi
Love it. My best are Kush and the Cubase Tube. Thanks for all your hard work and your big smiles. 😊😊😊
And the Portico WOW! Some of the best audio I've heard through my monitors. The depth of the Tube is sweet. Almost sounds like a bit of imaging.
This may be the video that helped me the most. If someone read this : just try it. Thanks again Dom.
love how you also showed the cubase inbuilt ones too. Thanks for this!!
My favorite is the Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor. It seems so clear and solid, with so many variables. Thanks Dom!
in short, it really keeps the control of the transients :)
My fav comp
I'm having a hard time with the SH, takes me forever to get a result I actually like, while the SSL is actually sounding good in almost any setting.
@@JBrm my issue with the shadow hills is the interface. Way too many knobs and possibilities. The SSL takes me 10 seconds to dial something in
Thx man, you have great ears, enthusiasm for music that is inspiring
You are a blessing to the Earth , Dom
Greate Video. - One of the good ones I have seen so far... thanks Dom!
Thanks very informative .. the 5043 and stock 2nd for my faves .. you always blow me away with your posts .. so, and because I always seem to mismatch my mixes it would be great if you did a compression lesson for mastering ..all the best and stay safe SRM
Thanks a lot dear Dom for this nice comparison!! 🙏🏾
Greatly appreciated the video. I liked the Neve compressors in this instance.
A fantastic way to do a review. Really educational by letting viewers to know where to pay attention. Perhaps bit challenging for people who 1) don't have so much experience in listening, or 2) who doesn't use good enough gear when listening this video.
Great video. Love this track... sooooo goood. I'm liking the Townhouse and The AR-1. That 33609 is super nice, too.
Thanks Dom for this great video. In my arsenal I have the ssl bus comp, Waves Renaissance Comp, FabFilter C2 and I must admit that the stock Cubase compressor have a special place in my heart, I use it a lot of times with all my pleasure. I like to know that I’m not the only one 🤗🥂
Great video. I enjoy your presentation and enthusiasm. Keep up the good work.
Gràcies, Dom!
i really like the SSL mix bus. i use the SSL six at home and it really makes jamming out more fun cuz it sounds like a record as i play... great sounding track btw!
Dom, thank you so much for great comparison. Amazing video again. I would love if you can make detailed tutorial with Shadow Hills compressor. Thank you in advance.
Looking forward to this!
Thanks, Dom! You've been a tremendous help in getting my production up and running. Learning new things every day, but your videos in particular have helped me with aspects of Cubase that I never even knew existed. Keep up the amazing work! Looking forward to hearing more about these bus compressors. Thanks again!
Hi Dom. Great video. Favourite compressor for me is the stock Cubase Vintage Compressor. Just great .
Great video bro.. Love that song too lol .. The shadow hills sounds amazing and the Neve one forget it!! awesome.
Awesome, thanks!
Great video Dom! It's good for me to learn to hear compression. It's not always that obvious to me. (A video about what you should be hearing would be very much appreciated! :D) I loved the SSL one. I loved the IK Multimedia Neve one too. I use IK's LA 2A comp a lot. Thanks! Oh, and great track you are working on!
Thanks for a video, great compressors!
Ur so cool to watch bro , great energy
All of them will find a way in our productions for some or the orhe busses! My favourite is ssl buss compressor and in this video Portico sounds impressive as well. Your videos are always relevant with all the right kind of information ❤
Love your channel, very friendly and positive. Would be interesting to hear your opinion about Pulsar 1178 and Mu for this purpose.
Спасибо, Дом!
Thanks Dom
The T Racks sounded great and the Portico too 👍
Great stuff, tube compressor from stock Cubase is super
Wow amazing!!! I feel like I'm going to ❤or like most of your videos as a new subscriber. Thanks for the content!!!
Waiting 😍
That vocal is so great, a house remix would be awesome!
the vocals come from a sample pack
@@thesaint7380
👀 What sample pack is that then? 🤔
"Share!!" 👼
Yes what sample pack is this from??
In the comments somebody commented that it was possibly samples from Steinberg 'Bloom - Amy Kirkpatrick (Sample Pack)' which I think was included with Cubase 11
ua-cam.com/video/Fz4djSa7qTs/v-deo.html
Like the vid on the Haas effect, truly awesome and please give us a heads up on what those great ‘not mixed yet’ tracks are when they are ready for release. I pick up my guitar and they are amazing to improvise along with. Stellar music. Priceless information 🙏😎
AR-1 is my absolute FAVE compressor for a while now!
Yes... agree... AR-1 is great!
Great video! Looking forward to the follow up video as well. Please make it. Thanks!
Awesomeness 🤩
So Usefull ♥
thanks for introducing the concept! Never heard of Bus!😂😂
Thank You. Informative video! 👍 Great!
Thanks for using a good song as an example! Some of the material used in a lot of these types of videos really kill me.
SSL and Portico are my 2 fav to use. Im fixed on thise 2 for years. Specially my Portico. Also my Vintage Ooen Deck.
Hehhe the track is so frigging cool. Cruising with it...
This song! My gosh!!!
Nice song and great content! thank you
The kush one sounds amazzzzzzzing btw.
Great comparison Dom! I am now interested in the Kush (already have the SSL and Townhouse). In case you didn’t know, there is a free upgrade to the V.2 of the SSL Buss Compressor and Channel Strip.
how in the hell Dom have only 49k subs !!!!!!!! man your channel is awesome and i would really love to see you mix a metal track
They are all nice. The Portico was my favorite. I like transparency on the mix buss, I can color the subs to taste. I have found other comps that work for me though.
Hi Dom, just bumped into your channel only recently. I thought I knew a little bit about cubase - I now admit I dont:)
Love and appreciate your Tutorials and it's lots of fun and favorable to my work & flow to try out your stuff. I'm here to stay and thanks a lot!
James from Berlin
SSL Buss comp Ver 2 (Oversampling and Same code from the duality) sounds even better. Oh.. And its a free update... my ilok asset was just there!
The Townhouse is my goto bus compressor, only sometimes I reach for a classic SSL, or API.
I'm still building my GSSL one, but honestly you can deal with all of them, don't stretch your budget too much.
1 - SSL Native Bus Compressor
2 - bx_Townhouse Bus Compressor
3 - Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor
4 - Kush AR-1
5 - Neve 5043 Portico Series Duo Compressor
6 - T-Racks Precision Comp-Limiter
7 - Steinberg Tube Compressor
Thanks Dom for sharing your fave compressors. I have updated my Cubase Pro10.5 to Pro 11:)
Had no idea Neve had a plugin for 5043. Pretty cool - still an SSL fanboy here!
Should've included Unisum!
My favourite is the first compressor, the SSL.
Thanks for the video, it would be interesting to dig more into how you would use more than one compressor "in conjunction" as you mentioned (always good to learn from the pros :-) )
is it just me or is the SSL bus compressor the best in the list!!!! my ears were engaged.
Great vid Dom!. Just as UBK's AR-1 is mighty fine for coloration (love his stuff), Tokyo Dawn Lab's Kotelnikov is probably one of he cleanest compressors to be used for mastering that I have run into in my comparatively short time in mixing that I've found - along with their equally interesting SlickEQ Mastering EQ. Please consider a review on both of these. Thanks a mil ...
I love Kush. I don’t have the AR-1 but I have the Silika and Blyss by Kush
By the way, love the Waiting Room tracks (ALBUM) (i will listen with a good pair of headphones).... curious to see the movie :) Maybe if you can do a walkthrough in one or 2 tracks, showing the process, decisions and maybe what plugins that you used, etc , i would love to see that. Thanks in advance. Don t stop doing what you specially for the Cubase community. Cheers Dom
The RND PORTICO sounds great from steinberg your the only person I know that uses it , price is at £233.00 and never is on a deal. Apart from Krush i use the same ones , But ive been using the snow from acustica-audio and also Indigo the last few months on master bus. Great Vid as always.KEEP SMILING BROTHER ;)
Hi Dom I do use the stock Plug in especialy on vocal input stage with frequency when I am recording vocals,Gr8 video
Awesome comparison.
On this song, through UA-cam to my multimedia speakers I prefer the townhouse and SSL. Obviously on something like an acoustic song it would be something else.
I love the KUSH!
Great selection for sure. I am surprised that the API-2500, the Elysia Alpha and the Fairchild 670 weren't mentioned.
Should try the Kazrog True Dynamics, especially the model ITA LA1B, on the mix, is a instant radio ready, brings to the front in a very unique way, I love the way the harmonics, works, its not static, and of couse the mix knob is very handy and subtle! it does something magical even at 7/10%, I mix into that!
Hi Dom, and another useful video thank you so much! Your pen volume trick on lyrics blew my mind and saved my ass a lot of time! I have a question for you, did you know after which real compressor cubase stock compressors are based (the default one, vintage and tube?) And my favourite comp is from kush, the UBK-1. This company is so amazing...
Dear Dom, I just used some of the advice from your videos, especially from this one, on one of my tracks - and I produced my "loudest" mix yet inside cubase. Thanx Dom! Your Videos are great! Also, I like a lot of your music you release on SoundCloud.
aaah so great to hear that! Wait for it, I am going to have a new video on how to get your mixes loud soon too!
@@DomSigalas GREAT, I just re-started making music after many years, and your videos are so great to get up to date with Cubase.
Townhouse was already in my wishlist, meanwhile I have gotten the VSC-2 and appreciating it. Shadow hills imho is unnecessarily faithful as reproduction to the real thing, in the analog domain it makes sense to manage two channels with their own controls for each but not in the digital one, they could have implemented at least linked controls when in dual mono if not a M/S mode. Portico looks like the typical case of "appearances are deceiving" and is indeed interesting (FF modes get all my attention). IK makes several good reproductions of analog gear, their Black 76 is underestimated but for my ears it can compete with the UAD blue.
That stock compressor is pretty good.
my fav comp for bus comp are : tone projects unisum, softube american vintage , softube console 1 ssl 4000 (and experiment with dmg trackcomp2)
Great Song
part 2 would be great..i have the standard track set but havent used their compressors yet.. would like you to demo the blackbox hg ,,if you havent already, :)
Honestly, the best I’ve found for some time comes with Cubasis for the iPad Pro
Great video bro. What do you use to share your screen and video while getting great translations in your channel?
Beautiful man, thanks. also what do you use to edit your videos
Great video! Do you often use sidechain hpf filter on master bus compressor?
Since you are into pluginalliance stuff two great units for the job , the Vertigo VSC-2 and SPL iron
SPL Iron has been my fave so far, just picked up the Shadow Hills after hearing several people say they use it quite a bit more... I'll have to look into the Vertigo while I'm at it.
love the song ....ear candy 😇
Great video as always. Would love to know the song you used. I love it!
Since learning about the SSL "secret sauce" settings, I can never go back, but with the settings you mentioned later on: release set to the famous "auto" and HPF to 100-120Hz to not have the kick/bass drive the compressor so much. Even with these settings I can never recreate the feeling the SSL Bus Compressor 2 gives me with any other plugin. Great video!
What are the secret sauce settings?
@@higherfrequencymusic8903 Attack 30, Release Auto, Ratio 4:1, HPF to 100Hz, and Threshold until there's not more than 2db of Gain Reduction. Then Makeup the 2db that you lost back in.
Amazing video as usual! I’ve been ignoring stock Cubase plugins for far too long and it’s about time I put them to use.
Btw when is this track coming out? It’s such a vibe
The vocal samples are from Cubase Bloom library that comes with Cubase Pro 11 as I found out.
Let's be honest, it's the song that kicks a**. Even Logic's stock plugins would do here. No need to get that.
I know am off topic, I really like the track Dom is using to demo the compressors. I would love that track for night driving.
I might release it then :)
@@DomSigalas : YES, NOW NOW NOW
My favorite townhouse :)
