I have owned a 55 Chevy two door sedan for 46 years.Nice to this work being done.Too many old 55 Chevys went to the crusher.To build my 55 I had to hit junkyards and abandoned Chevys in the woods near the town where I lived.

A friend of mine just fully restored a corvair station wagon that he hauled back from my friends junkyard in Colorado, and it had the most magnificent patina. I watched a video where the guy had a barn full of mid-50s GM donor cars. He used them to make restored convertibles. He had vin plates from unrestorables and would fab up coupes and sedans to create a vin correct ragtop. The ragtops sell for 20 times or more a mint sedan. Chevies, Pontiacs, Olds and Buicks depending on which donors matched.
Looking back 35 years I now now I messed up when a pine tree crushed in the top of my 48 Chevy coupe putting my 46 Chevy coupe together ! Should have made a home made convertable from it instead of junking it ! Live & learn ! 😥
Yes they are spot welded in, however, I need to weld in a piece at the roof rail either way, and everything where it attracted at the floor is being replaced. Thanks for watching.

I am going to work on a 55 and 57 just curious how bad the floor are. I can fabricate panels just hope I don't have to spend tons of time. I'm helping a buddy out and its my first time restoring a car.

Oh, one question though.....Why didn't you weld in some x-braces in the interior to support the roof before cutting out the b-pillar? Also I see it's a three speed on the column, is it also a six cylinder? If so, do you plan on turning into a V-8? Guess that was three questions! LOL! It's from Golden star, I don't have a part number. I have tons of videos of my ongoing progress on this car. I do NOT recommend that panel. The profile on the quarter panel part isn't right.
The way I see it, I have two options and neither are plexi glass. I haven't decided which yet. The stock 150 base model had a fixed quarter window. I could go that way, but I do have all the tracks etc. to make them fully functional. The car will have air conditioning, so they'll never get used, but I might just do it so people don't think I couldn't. I'm ordering all new tinted glass when the time comes.
i wouldve just welded up the rear door in place. pulled the door handle and welded in the holes finished it off..then it wouldve been a real one of a kind
Not what I want. I specifically was looking for a 4 door to convert to a 2 door. It's about the project for me. Challenging myself and learning and improving my skills.
This is an old a Snap On Wheel horse I think. They're still availabe. There's alot of other manufacturers that make the same style. Mid rise scissor lift. Body shops love them. I bought mine used. Hope this helps.

I keep wondering why nobody is offering a complete kit for this conversion. Quarter panel extensions to the door jams, new door, panels to patch where the B pillar is removed. This level of fabrication is a bit intimidating. I've wanted a 55 Chevy since before I was old enough to drive. Now nice ones, just cost too much.
They offer kits to build the whole car from a catalogue. My idea for this car is no where near original. It would be a shame to cut up a good original 2 door car to modify it. That's why I am doing it this way. I have another video that explains why this isn't a good car to restore to original, but perfect for me.
Have you considered that it might be easiest to take on one side at a time so you have a side to refer to in your measurements and considerations? not trying to be a critic on your project but just wondering . Keep up the good work ;)

They came from another guys project and he didn't think they were good enough. The point was that I didn't cut up a restorable 2 door to use it's quarter panels on my 4 door. I didn't wreck a car to use it's parts on mine.
WHY?!? Be a lot less expensive to just give the 4 door to someone that appriciates it, and buy a 2 door in like condition. You don't destroy a 55 Chevy, either. FYI: 4 Doors and a useable rear seat are mighty nice to have when you've got a family of 4 or more. 4 doors in drag racing also have benifts in the rule books. Why do you think what's his name raced NHRA with a 4 door Maveric back in the 1960's and 1970's?
Why? because I want to, and it's my car. I could have bought a 2 door in complete condition, it's not about money. I wanted to do this. I know all the pros and cons. I am not the first one to do this, there's thousands of converted cars out there. They sell all the aftermarket parts to do it. Sorry you feel I "destroyed" the car, but I don't think that's the case at all. I'm prepared to sink a pile of time and a boatload of money into building the car I want. I've done alot of crazy projects on old cars and they've always turned out great with time, patience and money. Thanks for watching.
It's the exact same car, 2 and 4 door sedan. The only real difference is the post location and 2 extra doors. All tri-5 Chevy's are the same wheel base. Hardtops have a different roof, but the rest of the car is the same. Thanks for watching!

@@gsteele2612 no worries, I'm glad you watched and enjoyed. There are some guys that have done it by using the rear doors to extend the front doors. Then they get another rear door skin to fill the quarter panels. I think you're better to start with some decent 2 door doors. The point for me for this build is that I have a specific goal in mind of a pretty customized '55 and I didn't want to cut up a 2 door that someone could save to restore for parts for my conversion. I did another video called "why I shouldn't restore my 55". It explains why this car is a good car to cut up and do whatever I want with. It's a pretty rough car, but I've got lots of time. I dont get it. You said without donor car yet everything you will be putting back except maybe floorpans will be from donor car unless you are using new old stock.

@ferrochinabisleri1587 The best answer is like anything else, it's worth what someone is willing to pay. However, I honestly think that depending on how it looks when it's done and the quality of the work should determine some of the value. It won't bring what a 2 door would, but really in the end it's not going to be stock anyway. So who cares what it started as. I definitely didn't start the project with the hopes of it being worth a pile of money. I just wanted the challenge and didn't want a stock car, so thought this was best rather than cutting up a solid original car to put an LS engine, upgraded suspension etc. I think it would come down to someone falling in love with the car. I don't ever plan on pretending it was an original car. It is what it is, but it should be pretty cool.
I made the rocker from scratch, doors are from a guy that didn't need them for his project, pillars are aftermarket. The point is that I'm not cutting up another car that could be restored. There's no rules.

We all have our regrets with cars, I have a few I should have never sold. However, I'm fortunate to have kept some that I once thought I should sell.

Them sparks look super icky when they in bed in glass and rust. Ooo I bet I could etch the glass on a rat rod and it would be super trick

All the cutting you are doing with the grinder I do with my plasma. Cleaner, faster.
I have a plasma but I'm not that handy with it yet. Working on it.
The 4 doors and 2 door convertible's are the same wheelbase. I believe the 2 door hard tops are a shorter wheel base.
They're all the same wheel base. hard tops have a different roof line but the chassis for all 55-57 is the same.
