This is literally the best commercial I have ever seen. This is creativity at its height, simply beautiful. Very well done whoever made this, very well done indeed.
UA-cam should make Ancient Comments unrepliable. A modern reply does nothing but profane an artifact from UA-cam's golden era. A time when not everyone had an account and even those who had one didn't feel compelled to mark their territory by commenting everywhere
I first saw this commercial 15 years ago and today remembered it again. It's lost none of its power. What a powerful accomplishment for these creators and for Mr W.
This ad makes me proud to be in advertising, and that's no simple task. Love it every time I watch it: the casting, the musical score, the direction. It quite simply doesn't get any better than this.
Brilliant! So well done! I saw this a few years ago and I'm happy I found it again! It's one of my favorite commercials of all time. Heck! It could easily pass as a fantastic super short film! Kudos!
I feel like a real idiot. I've seen this video a few times. On a whim I thought oh lemme watch that video again. This is the first watch through that I actually realized he was portraying the wind.
This is genius. I was wondering the whole way through, "why isn't everyone else extremely mad at him, like chasing him down and yelling?" but then it all made sense.
Such a creative one. Been seeing this often whenever I think of personification of air. When it's inside human life is born to be human, music instrument or gadgets, it bears life and carries life still by being humble with no lime light.
I know it may have been obvious to some, but I thought it very clever and well done. When you come to the concept of having to sell the idea of wind power, I think it works very well.
i just can't believe how funny and how moving this commercial is at the same time. "sure it get's lonely, but you get used to it" - such a sad part. There are lots of directors/producers/writers that could learn a lot from whoever made this in how to get viewers to care about the characters. They evoked the emotion in 2 minutes that some directors never accomplish through many feature films. Bravo. and take that plastic bottles.
Carol Belle The exact piece isn't found in any of them, but it's likely a rearrangement of No.1 that the ad musician created. Either way you pointed him in the right direction :)
Aye, a rebirth for you getting this job Mr W. You were made redundant when we stopped using sailing ships. A shame now you have this new job... it's a bloody waste of time and money. You see we can't rely on you, sometimes you are there for work, sometimes not. Also (this is not all your fault) the turbines we created for you are so inefficient that it's hardly worth you bothering. Big companies are given huge grants paid for by governments (average Joe foots the bill) just in case you decide to turn up for work. Meanwhile we must all look at these turbines destroying the view. Do me a favour Mr W and give your friend Mrs Sea shout, her tides would be better and more reliable, oh and blow the politicians into Mrs Sea when you go. Thanks.
Jack Engn I forwarded this to 2 people telling them that I thought it was weird and funny but that I didn't get it as a commercial. It took me 3 viewings to finally get it! lol. I guess we're just too literal. :D
Theresa W You nailed it, my friend. I'm rational in my appraisals of things most of the time, so I have a feeling that the aforementioned idiosyncrasy helps some things go over my head -- or maybe I just stink at puzzles. Both of those options are certainly highly probable. :-) Have a nice day.
this was in the Sundance best short films of 2008 and the theater erupted in laughter...one of the best of the 9 shorts for sure. but each one was amazing in it's own beautiful way go see it if you can.
I feel smart. I don't have sound on this thing and I figured out it was about wind before I read the tags or saw the end of it. Of course, I also feel a tad stupid for not just thinking of checking the tags to see what the ad was about, but meh... Anyway this is pretty great!
Now this is how you fucking advertise.
TheUnchainedMind I didn't see anyone fucking. Where's that video?
*****
Fucking advertise, not advertise fucking, big difference :D
***** in this context the word is an adjective, not a verb
TheUnchainedMind advertising wind?
TheUnchainedMind Yea man, this is pretty genius.
This is truly an amazing commercial. Brilliant concept. The marketing/design/communications teams who created this deserve an award.
It did get an award: a Clio and an award at Cannes, among others!
@@juliabyl2287 congrats to the team.
"You get used to it.......after a while.."
The delivery of that line got me
Creative, not off topic, and simply genius. Great commercial!

To the entire team -- creative, strat planners, production company and client who bought such magnificent work -- thank you. Absolutely brilliant.
so many years later i still need to come back to watch this. the story telling and concept is phenomenal
Same!
me too
I remember watching this video back in grade 4.
I first saw this commercial 15 years ago and today remembered it again. It's lost none of its power. What a powerful accomplishment for these creators and for Mr W.
This is both hilarious and incredibly moving. I love it.
Did it make you tired?
10 years ago dammm
I assumed he was a ghost until that twist at the end.
Good to hear you love it Peter:)

lol crying in tik tok and modern advertising
The only thing more useless than wind is ads.
Ohoh look at me I'm profaning an Ancient Comment by replying to it now, I'm so cool
Now whenever I feel a breeze I'm gonna be looking over my shoulder for this guy.
this. this is the accent I needed for this character and I don't know why.
yes, the casting is perfect.
I've seen this video approximately 15323483262 times now. It never gets old.
How to turn a concept like wind into a lovable underdog.
that really... blew me away. Sorry.
Oh no you're not 😶
Wind you get so clever?
Oh, that's why no one gives a fuck about what he's doing. Thank you.
We call that a Tomato Surprise.
seriously? 😮
😂
You just made my day you big goof :)
wtf. It's the entire backbone of the ad...
From humorous absurdity to unexpected brilliance. Well done!
Personification is the best way for express yourself. I love this guy, who turns into two birds.
Absolutely brilliant. I´m doing research on viral vids and so far i´ve found a few awesome viral/commercial spots but this one is a true masterpiece.
So many people passed Wind, until finally someone saw his potential :-)
Came here from Reddit - never seen this one before. That was lovely !
Aww, Mr. W... we love you, buddy.
This is one of the smartest commercials! Took me a while to figure it out!
The only thing missing from this video is blowing out birthday candles 😭 its not your birthday Mr.W!
Eu-zy! Who lights birthday candles outdoors?
Wyatt Nite Yeah, all birthday parties are held indoors.
George Woodward correct!
these are the kinds of things that always tend to stay with me long after I watch them
One of the absolutely best and heart-warming commercials ever made!
Aw that was so cute. Poor Mr. Wind.
0:44 “Maybe I came on too strong? I don’t know. I really can’t say.” Mannnnn. Thi is some elite writing right here. 🖊️ 🔥 💨
He looks like Edward from Twilight

Holy crap. I didn't have a clue that he was portraying the wind until the very end. And now it makes sense that nobody bashed his face!
Still remains to be my favourite ad of all time.

Calling a name that's lighter than air Who's bending down to give me a rainbow...."
2020 and still the best commercial ever created
Brilliant abstract and very subtle!! Loved it!
i was so confused untill the end, then i was just like "Oh... AWESOME!"
Biggest plot twist ever holy shit
What a brilliant intellegence behind this commercial. Congs a thousand times. The wind man's performance is awesome as well.
This is genius. I was wondering the whole way through, "why isn't everyone else extremely mad at him, like chasing him down and yelling?" but then it all made sense.
Very creative commercial!
It hit me when he was throwing sand, he must be the wind ehehe.
this is truly magnificent. absolutely brilliant writing.

Beautifully done. Simple and so clever.

LOVED THIS. Brilliantly clever, well-written, produced very well also. Very much enjoyed it.
I have so much sympathy for the wind now -)
At first, I was thinking "alright, where is this going?"
Cool concept. Love how the wind has an accent :P
Such a creative one. Been seeing this often whenever I think of personification of air. When it's inside human life is born to be human, music instrument or gadgets, it bears life and carries life still by being humble with no lime light.
wow... took me a second to actually get it. it was THAT deep. go wind. i'll be your friend.
What a great ad - clever and effective at the same time.
First I thought this advert was lame, but than I understood!
Immediately had to rewatch it
Oh shit, I realized he represents the wind on a windy day....

when you're trying to clean out old stuff and you get all nostalgic... keep or toss? keep.
I envy The Wind, I hope to be useful someday
This is soooo intelligent! I love it.
That's freakin awesome!!! (coming from some-one living in Cape Town where the wind is currently being very annoying!)
This is beautiful.
Best thing I have seen on the internet in a long time. Gives me such a different perspective. The wind is very much alive.
Strange, but very creative commercial. I always loved the wind, though. It makes you feel alive.
Seriously! How can you not seeing this twist coming a mile off?!?!??!
I thought he was an autistic man. Never did I think he was The Wind until the end. 😀
amazingly clever! i love him throwing sand in the little girls eyes... ridiculous.
Wow - what a stunning film! Thanks for posting.

anyone know the name of the piano piece being played in the background?
Darude Sandstorm.
Paul Rogers ROGERS!
brian hello I think it sounds a lot like Satie's Gymnopedie. Not no. 1, which is the most famous one I think. But it could be a clip from no. 2 or 3.

I earnestly don't understand. Would someone care to explain?
Wajdi Krit so this is a comercial for wind?
Just a UA-camr No, it is a commercial for wind energy.
Wajdi Krit Ah! Thank you, Wajdi Krit! I somehow overlooked that completely.

Oh my gosh this is brilliant! Really cleverly done! I also find it quite hilarious. :)

This took me by surprise. It's excellently done. Watch it twice man.
I would have never realized he was supposed to be the wind if others didn't say so, and then I find out it's a commercial for wind energy!
