  • In this video I talk about how I went about painting the undertray for the Kyosho Optima Pro replica I've been working on. This, for me, is a good warm-up to painting the body as my liquid mask cutting skills need a lot of work. Now the undertray is done I can focus on the body. Hopefully the body has straighter lines than the undertray haha. Enjoy!
    Thanks for watching.

    Looks great from here! Cutting straight lines on curves surfaces is a very hard thing to do! I am sure the body is going to turn out super cool! great job Mick.

      Thanks Addam! Oh yeah, it is pretty tricky. I think the body may take me a while as I want it to turn out better than the undertray. That remains to be seen though! 😬. Thanks mate. 🙂👍

    Hey Mick!!🙋‍♀️😀. Are you kidding!, the line turned out nice n straight mate👌. Good on you for mentioning Glenn👍, some people wouldn't give a person a shout out but we wouldn't expect any less from you👍🍻 we'll have to check out his video. We had to pause the video in the beginning and soak up all the rc goodness in the room🤤. Thanks for sharing your tips n tricks mate👍. We love your short knife idea mate, so many times we've struggled with a long handle, brilliant!!!.
    It's looking great mate👍. Ingrid yelled out G'day Mick!😍. Thanks for sharing another great video mate👍🦘🇦🇺.

      G'day mate! 👋
      Well for a distance it looks fine... and I guess it'll be under the car so won't be seen much 😂
      I got a bit lazy there and didn't add Glenn's link to his video but I'm sure people can find it easily enough. Haha yeah, I get that all the time. People (well lets face it, it's other UA-cam channels!) take ideas or even steal pictures and just pretend they don't know where they came from. I refer to those types as FLOGS! 😂. Already a thumb down on this video so I guess someone has seen an idea they want to use and by giving me the thumb down it means (only in their mind) that they didn't find it here 😂. Only took a few seconds to mention Glenn and didn't cost me a cent, so I don't know why others can't do it... apart from they want to look like the "ideas guy" or something. Oh well! 🤷‍♂️
      Haha, I gotta dust all that stuff in the room at some stage. Painting inside isn't always the best idea! 🤣
      No probs mate, glad you and Ingrid enjoyed the video. Oh yeah, G'day Ingrid! 👋🙂.
      Thanks mate, yeah the short knife is real handy! Cheers mate! 🙂👍

      It looked good to us mate, the top should look great too👍. This hobby is massive on YT but there's just a few Flog's out there, they're definitely the minority thats for sure. Yep they want the credit for it but are too dumb and lazy to come up with their own stuff, losers🤣. Yeh but if you wipe the dust off everything the overspray floating around the room will then stick directly to the bodies and will never come off,... See I do come up with a brilliant idea from time to time😁.

      @@outbackrcaustralia4895 Thanks mate. Oh yeah, 99% of them are fine, there is only a small number of flogs 😂. Haha I have thought about that "protective" layer of dust too. Well that saved me some time! 😁👍

      Thanks mate! Haha yeah, that's it 😂. It is a tricky paint scheme, I even left out a black line between the gold and the yellow. I know Kyosho used Micron Line tape for their black lines (and possibly the red) on the box art but I wanted this to be all paint so I left it off. Thanks mate! 🙂👍

    Yeah, man, gotta love a good paint video! I did something similar on my original Top Force a few years ago, I ended up sticking carbon fiber vinyl over it, he he... Yours looks way better than what I did...
    I'm really excited about your Optima Pro project, I already started painting mine inside my head (haven't even ordered the kit yet). I can't find SMS paints in EU, but I found another brand called Hikari RC, looks really promising, should have some nice options for the brown... Then I add some yellow stripes and no idea about the red, maybe it'll just be raining blood or something...

      By the way, those silicone rulers, I tried buying some of those... At first they seem like a good idea, but I cam to hate them... The knife is so sharp it just cuts into them... Be very careful when using those as a guide...

      G'day Mads! 👋
      Haha, that's why I started with the undertray. At least it'll be mostly out of sight 😂.
      Me too mate, hopefully it turns out how I want it too! I'm sure you'll be able to find something close to the gold and brown. I think Tamiya do have a pale gold that is close enough and for the brown, well dark brown is kinda dark brown 😂, although I still added black.
      Haha, nice Slayer joke in there!
      Cheers mate. 🙂👍

    Nice colors!
    I paint model kits and cut out masking tape for shapes and airbrush with masking in stages. It's consistent and the lines are clean. Maybe it would work here as well?

    • @RCHobbyShed
      @RCHobbyShed  4 місяці тому +1

      Thanks mate! I think that's gonna be the best way, for me at least. I have some 1/16" (around 1.5mm) masking tape I actually started to do this with but it was taking forever so I scrapped it and started again only using liquid mask. I think I'll just have to take my time with the body and use the tape... Or I may make up vinyl stencils with the vinyl cutter. You are right though, it will work here and look much cleaner. 🙂👍

      @jemster38 4 місяці тому +1

      @@RCHobbyShed Yeah, masking is the ultimate test of patience, but the results are worth it!

      Haha, I think a lot of people are waiting for those decals to be available. Back in the day they would have used Kyosho Polyca paints, which haven't been in production for many years now. 🙂👍
