Truly a spectacular voice. Maybe the consistently greatest in rock history? He truly has my vote and not because I like it. I think it is better than Mercury (who was bombastic, operatic), certainly better than Plant, Perry and Bowie. On par with Lennon & McCartney, IMHO.
Chester has a twin brother drummer named Michael Beard who played with a band called the barkays! The same explosive heavy handed double bass playing unforgettable style!!! Woow!!!
I grew up in the mid 80s and no one was bigger than Genesis. There’s not a lot of 80s bands that I really like I was more of a 90s but Genesis and The Police are two of the ones I still enjoy.
I completely agree... Phil took it to another level with vocals... They are always Legendary in my mind... and the late 70's & early 80's was an experience that stays with you... for decades.🎼👄😈❤

@Rocky Matthias thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Dude. Phil is a God d*** legend, man. His voice, his talent and persona all on display here. Easily one of the best musical artists in our lifetimes. I feel blessed I was able to see him live with my wife a few years back.
I know some of y’all like the 70s Genesis and maybe I was too young back then I went back and watched it. I couldn’t do it. I could not listen to it. The 80s were just catchy awesome songs.

Phil Collins left an incredible star in great music. To see his grown daughter stand next to him at his last performance brought tears. We Love You Phil! My Son played drums along with Phil as a boy!!!!♥️♥️♥️
Que banda x DIOS, yo me compré mi 1er casette en el 82', todavía la escucho, una de las mejores de todos los tiempos. SALUDOS DESDE MAIPÚ, MENDOZA, ARGENTINA.
I'm completely obsessed with this song and I don't know why... I think I must've heard it as a kid and now my brain immediately takes me back to that time ??!! It's magic to my ears
Well it is a great song by a great band. But I know what you mean. This performance in particular is very special. Phil delivers it perfectly and the band is immaculate. Better than the studio version, which was typical for Genesis.
I've always sort of admired Phil Collins, I mean, if you saw him leaving his house you'd have no idea from the way he was dressed if he was popping out to get some milk from the corner shop or going on a world tour. Respect. x
This song brings back so many memories for me. I'm a huge middle aged Genesis fan from America, peace out everyone and listen to 70's Genesis. Genesis should have three names, late 60's ( one album) 70's ( beautiful music) and 80's ( yucky pop music but still palatable to a degree).
August 14th 1982. I was 14. My dear departed uncle Mario took me to see them. He smoked a j on the way and asked if i wanted some but i was too shy. Great show. About 10 years later I'd bring weed to uncle Mario and we'd smoke to Purple, Tull, Genesis, Jimi, Santana, Sabbath. Uncle Mario died tragically 2 years ago in a car crash driven by a guy on drugs. It's ok, he and I had great times.
Amazing live performance! He's such a fantastic singer! This sounds better live than studio recorded....and I love the studio version. Love this!! This was recorded 40 years ago...in 1981. Wow. Where does the time go?
I love that he’s dressed casual when most everyone in rock and roll was in crazy outfits. That what I like about Nirvana. They saved rock and roll by just being themselves and not waiting makeup and crazy hair.
The performance in this video really explains why during band introductions every single show Genesis and/or Phil Collins did, Chester Thompson would get the biggest ovation. Even bigger than Phil himself. What an incredible drummer.
This could not be better. Phil Collins's voice is perfect.
LEGENDARY
I notice there are a few fans lauding up the latest version from the US show a few days ago.. . This IS how it's sung ...🎶♥️
I agree with you! Best voice in the entire world
I think ATTWT, Duke and Abacab were Phil’s best period’s vocally. The Duke tour was when he truly turned into a true frontman, imho.
Truly a spectacular voice. Maybe the consistently greatest in rock history? He truly has my vote and not because I like it. I think it is better than Mercury (who was bombastic, operatic), certainly better than Plant, Perry and Bowie. On par with Lennon & McCartney, IMHO.
Imagine being one of the best drummers of your era and then getting in a class act like Chester Thompson as your sub in the live shows.
Amen to that.
Chester has a twin brother drummer named Michael Beard who played with a band called the barkays! The same explosive heavy handed double bass playing unforgettable style!!! Woow!!!
Chester Thompson added some 'balls" to the live shows! He was perfect for the band!!

How the hell is Phil that well live? Holy hell.
Even years later.
He is the epitome of greatness and his stage performance is only second to Freddie & Queen 1985 Live-Aid.
Hövvlync wülläff -.- ?
HE WAS FANTASTIC
Because u had to know how to sing back then
What an incredible voice.
Prefer it to most
Yes and deed
Phil knocked it out of the park live. What a song and performance.

Bullshit. The album version is the best
@@AmylovesIceland I really like this version now and I think it is as good as the original. 😊😊
Very talented and underrated drummer Chester Thompson pounding the skins in perfect sync !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m not even a big fan (my fault, for sure), but I was like: didn’t that guy play with Zappa?
In the industry, Chester is not underrated at all. He’s very respected.
Chester is highly regarded in the drumming community

Who is still listening to this. In 2020. Let there no misunderstanding.about that
No one like Phil Collins absolute LEGEND
Becoming obsessed with this f-cKing band and realizing they had like five archs I am so happy to have Music
Someone with a tame Impala profile pic and listening to Genesis is rare but appreciated
David Hale haha Love it all the same, man. Peace.
@@FHDTV Jay Watson covered this song so I can imagine some Tame Impala fans coming to discover this banger. Great to see cause I love both bands!
Hey Nick. Love ya 💕
Loved Phil's adlibs that you don't hear on the studio version. Phenomenal voice.
the lyrics here
There must be some misunderstanding
Or there must be some kind of mistake
Coz you left me in the rain for hours
You were late
Now it's not like me to say the right thing
But you could've called to let me know
Then I checked your number twice, to understand it
So I went home
Well I'd been waiting for this weekend
And I thought that maybe we could see a show
Coz I never dreamed I'd have this feeling
But seeing you is believing
That's why I don't know why
You didn't show up that night
There must be some some misunderstanding
Ooh, this is some kind of mistake
Coz you left me in the rain for hours
Yeah, You were late
Since then I've been running around trying to find you
I went to the places, there you always go
I rang for hours but got no answer
So I jumped in my car, I went round there
I still don't believe it
You was just leaving

Duke was such a brilliant album and this is the only song that got much airplay from it. I guess I shouldn't be surprised...
Don't you just love him? what amazing performance and talent back then.
Fantastic band.❤
Mike Rutherford playing the bass guitar with perfect precision !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Timothy Midgett yeah he’s a beast on that bass.

I have loved and adored him since 1982! I'm 61 now. Thank you for everything
We have lived through a golden age of musical creativity.
He gives it all when he sings
This song is a reminder that Phil was a big soul music fan as a kid.
Pure doo-wop/balladeering here...

My favorite Genesis/Phil Collins song.
mine too!
I can't stop watching this video, it's beautiful
Listening to Phill collins makes me happy. I swear his voice has something about it that makes it sound like its distorted in a great way.
Makes you realize how much the backing vocals add to the original…BUT…this one stands up on its own for sure. Love it.
Thanks to the Universe for this gift!
One of my favorite Genesis song. Phil Collins is an outstanding drummer and vocalist!
this live version is sooooo goood ... I love those simple things, like daryl's guitar lines underneath, or mike's bass lines, etc. etc. etc.
Agreed! Would love to find a guitar tab for the live riff!
Yes, as always Collins sings his soul out; moving.
Genesis is one of those bands that always sound better live than a studio. I got to see them in 87. I still remember how awesome they were.
Every single instruments and voices are awesome here.. keren banget mas, hahaha
Just got here.
I love it when Phil points at Tony when he sings: "He was just leaving" XD
Dudley2342 cracks me up too !
It looked as though the two of them prearranged that , the way Tony gives Phil a little glance just before the line

When the live version sounds ten times better than the studio version just goes to show how talented musicians of our era were.
