  • On bended knee is no way to be free
lifting up an empty cup I ask silently
that all my destinations will accept the one that's me
    so I can breathe
Circles they grow and they swallow people whole
half their lives they say goodnight to wives they'll never know
got a mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul
    so it goes...
Don't come closer or I'll have to go
Holding me like gravity are places that pull
If ever there was someone to keep me at home
    It would be you...
Everyone I come across in cages they bought
they think of me and my wandering
but I'm never what they thought
got my indignation but I'm pure in all my thoughts
    I'm alive...
Wind in my hair, I feel part of everywhere
underneath my being is a road that disappeared
late at night I hear the trees
    they're singing with the dead
    overhead...
Leave it to me as I find a way to be
consider me a satellite for ever orbiting
I knew all the rules but the rules did not know me
    guaranteed...

@Testudoization Man, I live in Serbia. Here is the same story,(except that I don't have forest near my place). In 80's people here were so happy, friendly and don't give a f about material things. Today, it's totally different. People became so selfish, material and spiritually poor (and they dont think it is problem).I really hate world that we live in today. It's good to know that there are still some people who see what surrounds us and what we become.Greetings!

If u think chris is an hero, read the book. He just died 30 miles of an way. Not really "into the wild". U have to learn more about chris. He made many mistakes. Alaska people think he was just an idiot cause he died in summer in alaska, without preparation... anyway great song, great movie. See u on the bus

    • @MaskoftheWraith
      @MaskoftheWraith 10 років тому +46

I've seen the film numerous times and read the book and I still think Chris is a hero. Why? Because he had the courage and ambition to pursue his ideology to its fullest. Knowing very well his moral trajectory could claim his life, which it inevitably did due to his mistakes, as you say.
However he did set out what he intended to do. He spent the winter in the Alaskan wilderness, albeit the fringes of the deep wilderness, in isolation living off the land with the barest essential equipment. A lot of Alaskan residents would think he was an idiot in comparison to themselves who "brave" the wilderness in hunting parties with stacks of high-end professional camping gear.
Chris was not an idiot. By all accounts of the people he met, he was academically and intuitively intelligent and headstrong. That was also his folly, his recklessness and forward thinking hindered him from stopping, looking up the river to find where it shallows. That's not idiocy, just personality.

Well considering that "Alaska People" also elected Sara Palin their governor at some point i wouldn't be too concern about who or what they consider to be stupid - as they evidently cannot recognize stupid even when it spit them in their faces...

Have YOU read the book? Cause most of it is his travels around the country prior to Alaska and all the people he met that loved him. Alaska was only a small part of it. Thinking you either didn't read the book or only read the last chapter.

'On bended knee is no way to be free' , the first line of this song, was the life motto of dutch crimefighter Peter R de Vries, who was shot while walking in an Amsterdam street July 6 and died on July 15. He stood up for injustice and paid for it with his life. What a hero. RIP Peter....

    Lá no alto
    Considere-me um satélite, sempre orbitando
Eu conheci todas as regras, mas elas não me conheceram

    • @kermit939
      @kermit939 7 років тому +12

They are wondering if Chris' story is a tragedy or more an example to follow.
A tragedy because of his sensibility, own life.
An example to follow to escape this crazy society, liberalism, capitalism without bounds.
And I also saw some people saying that the music was copied from the song Soleil from Francoise Hardy.
sorry for my english again I'm french

Kermit - Well Chris learned what the old man was trying to teach him near the end. He came in thinking that the way to be at one with nature was to do it in solitude. He realized that to truly live is to share experiences. So both of these are correct. It's a tragedy because he learned a lesson but died before he could apply it through action. Also it's a lesson for us to get away from these creature comforts and get back to nature. When we box ourselves in with society we become numb towards one another, numb towards our environment and most sadly numb towards ourselves.

Hopefully, when i get old and about to die, i'll be able to tell my grand children" i went here and there, i did this and that, i meet him and her and them, i ate this and that, and i did what i wanted to do, and i am happy about it and i regret nothing" instead of i graduated from college and spend my life in a spinning chair behind a monitor.

@TheMichaelAngeloS I thought about it too, and i think i'm going to try it. Only, a little bit differently. Try to prepare more, and have a "backup" plan. I think by the time he wanted to cross the river, he was very exhausted, and he decided to wait until the water level goes down. It's really sad that he died, considering that he had survived for so long, living just from nature.
I understand him too, and i really respect that he followed his dreams, it's an example we should all follow :)
