The most disturbing thing about David's character is realizes he formerly instructed students that were Ellie's age and worse is that during their final confrontation, the only reason Ellie escaped was because David released one of her hands to undue his pants.🤢
Holy crap! I didn't even realize that! Thanks for saying it. This is my favorite episode so far. The catharsis you get once Ellie just goes "chopping wood" on his face and body...OMG! 😈😈😈😈
I think they wanted to portray the older merciless Joel. He became a monster when his daughter died, did some bad things, then he became a monster again when his new daughter was in danger.
Joel always had that within him, even before his daughter died. The death of his daughter was the catalyst for the monster within himself to be released.
@@moondog3056 I'm talking about his character. He didn't have to kill the guys he captured but he did. If you are aware of Part 2 then you are also aware of what that type of brutality leads too. The story is very careful to always portray Joel's violence as reactive. He doesn't initiate violence, he reacts with violence when it is brought to him first. But he used to. It's alluded to multiple times. And it's an arguably an arbitrary line between killing someone because they attacked you (especially in the over the top way Joel enacts his violence).. or killing someone because you're starving/your family is starving and you need their supplies (or literal flesh for consumption). It's both life or death. I think the showrunners know that it's much harder to get audience buy in for characters that initiate that violence... But make no mistake, Joel is capable of, have and will do both to survive.
ya...u can tell by his convo with Tommy that he is not proud of the things they did in the past... possibly initiating the violence to survive. The show does a great job at making it believable that even us viewers would do these things because a lot of us would if it came down to it, its the dark truth, we do what we can to survive.
They added a good amount to David’s character but I think it really aided in showing how much of a maniacal person he truly is. In the game he didn’t tell any one his back story but in the show, he tells Ellie he used to be a teacher and once the scene of his trying to assault Ellie happens, the fact that he used to be a teacher can make one assume that he’s always been in control of children and was most likely always a child predator even before there was no laws to stop him. It’s a really good episode and it just solidifies the father daughter relationship between Ellie and Joel now.
Every single time Joel has killed someone so far, it has been in self defense or self-preservation. Like when they were ambushed in KC and killed Kathleen's men, same at the university since that girl's dad came at them first. He even offered the old man the chance to live if he just gave him the riffle and stayed posted at the house before the horde attack. He didn't needed to be violent towards Sam&Henry or the old native couple at all, so he wasn't. Not only this, but his kills are usually quick: bullets, knife to the heart, broken neck and etc. But the only two times we saw him lose it and be actually CRUEL, like he is absolutely capable to be, were when Ellie was in direct danger, like in episode 1 when he beat that fedra guy to a pulp and now this one. Plus, Ellie explicitly told him to kill those guys if they ever made it to the basement, and now she's gone missing. It was obvious she was in trouble and by that point he had no guarantee leaving those guys alive wouldn't be dangerous for them once they left that place.
Right, and Joel's first contact with Henry and Sam wasn't exactly amicable, they were holding them at gunpoint and imposing themselves as a threat (they had to), guns he didn't know weren't even loaded. He could've 100% gone balistic on them but Henry quickly clarified they weren't gonna hurt them and Joel could actually tell they were being sincere, otherwise they wouldn't have made it to the morning which is when Henry actually explains his situation to Joel and Ellie
A kill shot is behind the shoulder blade. That is where the heart is and other vital organs. The neck and head will kill deer and elk, but it is an INCREDIBLY difficult shot and most hunters don’t attempt it
I don't see how anyone could come to the conclusion that Joel is in the wrong In this situation though? Every single time him and Ellie have been forced into violence. He literally captured these dudes while they were looking for him to KILL him, and for what? He acted in self defense In the first place. And now they have Ellie and he has no choice but to kill them or they'll just regroup and try to kill them again.
For you guy's to narrate this episode was so awesome..... you guy's put real human feelings into the blood and guts world of the last of us.... episode 8..... and it was beautiful.... thank you
If I am counting correctly, Joel got 1 man that attacked him, and ambushed three others after healing. Ellie defended herself against 2 men. This group of people are in big trouble is 6 of their most capable hunters/trackers/defenders have been taken out. I guess there will be extra meat for awhile, with the deer, horse, and six guys.
Funny that at the end you forgot Troy Baker's name and you said "Nolan-" I think you were thinking of Nolan North, which is funny because he's actually the voice actor who voices David (the creeper) in the game
You shoot the deer in the shoulder, where the neck meet the body. Higher chance to hit the heart or cause a instant kill, avoiding suffering. While there wasn't enough blood, I suspect that was a lung shot. Unnecessary suffering.

@See Jane Go TV, 8:26 Joel did more than choke they guy out, he broke his neck. We heard his neck snap. Thanks Jane =P 14:40 There were six men total, including David and James. David, James and one other man returned to Silver Lake with the horse. Joel killed one guy in the basement, and now there are just two others looking for him, and they'd probably rather go out the way the guy in the basement went out because now that Joel knows what Ellie is up against, he's powering through the pain and channeling the raider he used to be, and Joel's a savage. We're getting a taste of the guy Marlene spoke of in episode one and the guy Robert was afraid of. Joel is over the anxiety that made him feel weak. His accepted the fact that he does care for Ellie, and now he's got something to lose. Like Bill standing in the middle of the street trying to protect Frank, Joel is going to do whatever he has to do to get Ellie. Bill's letter back in episode three foreshadowed this--"God help any MF'er who stand in our way."
FYI: For a kill shot on a deer (or most things for that matter) best bet is generally to aim center of mass i.e.. at the chest. On a deer right around or just behind the shoulder. You want to hit both lungs (which kills quickly), preferably with shoulder or spine involvement so that they can't run while they bleed out.
I think it's more likely that they were scavenging for what ever they could find. Remember, David said that only a few of them knew the truth of what they were resorting to. I doubt those four guys were in on that knowledge.

the short answer is that the cordyceps mutated inside of her so it doesn’t affect ellie. gotta say that i love both of your reactions to this show adaptation 🎉🎉
also i feel like there is no bad or good everything is done for their own survival. you have to put yourself in the shoes of joel, henry, kathleen, or anyone. especially in this type of world who would care if someone is good or not.
Without wanting to offend anyone, the most common place to shoot a deer, that would insure that it dies quickly, is broadside through both the lungs. Most do evade for a moment, but quickly pass.
I believe you’re right that most people can’t be “good” people in the apocalypse due to what they are sometimes forced to do in the name of survival. That being said I do think Joel was justified in killing David’s men because his other option was to leave and have to worry about them coming after him or Ellie. Also, the men with David were definitely homicidal cannibals that are farther on the bad/evil spectrum than Joel ever was (I believe)
Typically medication that needs to administered via syringe will have the route of administration labeled on the vial itself, so it would have been Ellie's best bet to had read the bottle for instructions; also I believe the penicillin she had would have likely been administered intravascularly (i.e. the vein) and not in the stomach which would be delivered in the muscle tissue (i.e. intramuscularly) or subcutaneous tissue where meds like insulin typically go. Depending on the severity of Joel's infection it might be recommended to deliver through the vein to increase the meds speed throughout the cardiovascular system.
depends, for example in my country most of penicilin and antibiotics have to be administered into muscle, because direct vein injection causes immediate reaction.
@@jsmth99 That's true. I know that if the infection is considered to be severe or life-threatening recommendations can be made for IV administration. I wasn't entirely sure on exactly how far Joel's infection may have spread given his lack of activity since the span of time that had passed from the previous episode.
Under battlefield conditions all penetrating wounds are considered contaminated and are treated for infection at the point of injury. The instructions on the bottle are meant for a trained medical professional, not a 14-year-old child who would not understand any of it. She would not know the difference between injection types or sites, nor would she know what milliliters are or which marking on the barrel of the syringe indicated what. Actually, an intramuscular injection which will introduce penicillin into the bloodstream is fine under these conditions and the angle that she is doing the injection from is the proper one for intramuscular injection. Expecting an untrained, traumatized frightened child to hit a vein which even trained professionals at times have trouble doing depending on the patient is not reasonable even in this fictional situation. Then there would be the very real possibility that she would introduce an air bubble into a vein. In reality, penicillin clears the body quickly and any benefit Joel has received from this meatball intervention would be quickly reversed once the penicillin ran out. Anything she did no matter how helpful in the immediate short term would require an actual medical professional to keep him from dying. In the game he falls 2 stories onto a piece of dirty rebar that fully penetrates him from back to front and Ellie has to lift him off the rebar adding for some to the drama but for me makes his recovery just that much more ridiculous to accept, even for a game.
@@peg202xo7 luckily David was killed by Ellie. I can't imagine if he falls into Joel's hand. If Joel knew what he did and tried to do to Ellie, I think all hell will break loose. 🤣
Troy Baker did voice and mocap of Joel. I highly recommend watching the behind the scenes of the making of the GAME the Last of us. I won't spoil anything since it didn't happen in show yet, but there is a big interaction with him that happens at the end of the story. They did a prank to Troy by doing the dialogue as a musical... Troy's reaction is nothing but perfection.
Craig Mazin the showrunner: The Fungus loves too. It makes more of itself. That's what we do when we love each other. A lot of us make more of ourselves. That's how the species is propagated. And there's this sense of, you know, what we are may look disgusting, and the way we reproduce may be horrifying and violent, but it is tender. David: What does Cordyceps do? Is it evil? No. It's fruitful. It multiplies. It feeds and protects its children, and it secures its future with violence, if it must. It loves.
James was really adamant about either killing Ellie or letting her go before they brought her back, he didn’t seem very violent or malicious… which makes me think that maybe he was trying to have her go the easier way versus being with David and/or the human butcher shop. Also Ellie lowering her voice to try to sound more scary when she comes up behind them at the deer is so cute.
I would not say he was letting her go James was he faking shooting her then when he reloaded his gun to shoot her and then David stopped him from doing that
I know it's kinda far fetched cause it's just a show, but when Ellie finally grabbed that butcher-axe, it felt like she did it for all survivors of abuse. What an intense acting moment.
You guys are so much fun to watch with. Love it. Thanks for sharing yourselves with us. If there’s ever an apocalypse I totally wanna be on Team Jane. She’s a stone cold survivor lol
U would think the cult guy would have given ellie poison instead of penicillin, especially since he knew that she was with the guy who killed their guy.
About David “knowing” about Ellie and wanting her as a partner: Remember, they spent a couple hours together while Buddy Boy went to go get penicillin and a syringe.
@@LaCheeserie Manipulators feed you what you want to hear (or at least what they think you want to hear). He was just buttering her up, mistakenly thinking that she would be easily swayed. @@LaCheeserie i don't think that is what the creators of the show intended. I think they were making David's assessment of Ellie echo Kwongs, the FEDRA instructor in episode seven. I think they intended for his assessment of Ellie to be accurate, even if his motives are twisted.
I suspected David was bad the instant I saw he was a preacher and all the women were dressed the same. I really suspected it when he was talking to James about faith, and I KNEW it when he told Ellie "you're quite the hunter" in that condescending voice.

@@peg202xo7 luckily David was killed by Ellie. I can't imagine if he falls into Joel's hand. If Joel knew what he did and tried to do to Ellie, I think all hell will break loose. 🤣
@@peg202xo7 "god help any motherfucker who gets in your way ".
Who played joel in the video games is
Troy baker
David’s take on cordyceps was pretty good actually. Made sense to me as twisted as his analogy was
Troy Baker did voice and mocap of Joel.
Always look forward to your reactions. This was a great episode.
Your reactions are great!! I love it. You're the best guys. 💯👍🏾
I believe she can't spread it cuz fungus works different than viruses when it comes to propagation. 🤷🏽♂️
I would not say he was letting her go James was he faking shooting her then when he reloaded his gun to shoot her and then David stopped him from doing that
Okay, "dad meat" was funny 🤣
Feel better Jane!
Big plate of dad meat, that quote sent me😂😂😂😂
*"Get his weiner! Get it! Because he misuses it!"*
🤣🤣🤣
Good reactions!
Thank you! 😃
Information for Jane in the game Ellie used a bow and arrow to hunt the animals and a marshedy to kill David in the game Jane.
You mean machete to kill David
@@jamesmeechan6983 yes thank you I was trouble how to spell it.
I know it's kinda far fetched cause it's just a show, but when Ellie finally grabbed that butcher-axe, it felt like she did it for all survivors of abuse. What an intense acting moment.
I don't want to spoil anything, but the last episode will blow your socks off.
You guys are so much fun to watch with. Love it. Thanks for sharing yourselves with us. If there’s ever an apocalypse I totally wanna be on Team Jane. She’s a stone cold survivor lol
11:37 No, he only does that to teenage girls, he wouldn't hit a grown man, cause he's strong enough to hit back 🤡
🤣😂 he tells her she's too weak to grab his arm but is strong enough to take him out if he opened the cage when she is unarmed... 🤔
U would think the cult guy would have given ellie poison instead of penicillin, especially since he knew that she was with the guy who killed their guy.
I love y’all guys reactions y’all are so cute together and love all the content on y’all channel ❤
Troy does the Joel voice for this episode as James not his normal voice
his name is "Higgs, the partical of God."
shorter david: "cordyceps gave me the chance to finally be all i could be"
"Dad meat" 🤣
About David “knowing” about Ellie and wanting her as a partner: Remember, they spent a couple hours together while Buddy Boy went to go get penicillin and a syringe.
As Messed up as David was, his Assessment of ellie was Spot on
Except no evidence she is a leader. She is strong and independent though
@@LaCheeserie Manipulators feed you what you want to hear (or at least what they think you want to hear). He was just buttering her up, mistakenly thinking that she would be easily swayed. He was spot-on about the violent heart, though. I'm glad so many reactors on YT have been picking up on the serious character shift caused by this episode. The show did a really good job portraying just how traumatic this was for Ellie, and just how far reaching the consequences could be.
@@erinhaury5773 absolutely he was buttering her up. Works on a lot of people
@@LaCheeserie i don't think that is what the creators of the show intended. I think they were making David's assessment of Ellie echo Kwongs, the FEDRA instructor in episode seven. I think they intended for his assessment of Ellie to be accurate, even if his motives are twisted.
I anticipate many "oh Justins" in this episode
I suspected David was bad the instant I saw he was a preacher and all the women were dressed the same. I really suspected it when he was talking to James about faith, and I KNEW it when he told Ellie "you're quite the hunter" in that condescending voice.
I wanna know why joel met ellie outside when we had just seen him in a room with the hanging dead ppl. I thought he was gonna get to her inside
“Troy Barker” - Marycherry 2023
We all lose it at “baby girl” I believe 😢
Momma Jane sick 🤒 get well soon
This is what it's really like in Alberta. Dodgy venison sold out of coolers by butt grabbers.
It was Troy Baker, you said Nolan, not wrong tho, Nolan North gives voice to the priest in the game
