I'm 62YR'S old now my granddad gave me his 1967 Colony Park station wagon when I was 14 yrs. It ran great he bought a new vehicle and I pestered the hell out of him until he gave it to me, I used to race it around a field until I rolled it on it's side and tore it all up those were the best times in my life.Mine had a 390 in it.Thanks Grandad for all the fun and thanks for the video to spark those great memories.
My Papaw and Mamaw had a 1962 Mercury 2 door, with a 292 V-8 in it as their daily driver in the mid-late 80's. His other ride at that time was a 1969 Ford van short wheel base with an inline 6 and 3 on the tree. I learned to drive a column shift in that van. I was so little that i had to literally stand on the non power brake pedal to make it stop. Lol. I was just only 4 or 5 years old but remember riding 30 miles each way to town and back for them to get groceries in that Mercury. I would stretch out in that long, light blue, vinyl back seat and sleep on the way home. I can still smell the inside of that car, and that vinyl seat i was layin down on. Great memories!
My dad almost gave me his 1977 Dodge royal Monaco station wagon . It can carry 8 people and if i took it to school, all my friends wants a ride in it. I called it the magic school bus. Great memories. This car the way the split rumble seat in the back is set up, its a rare feature with 2 seats instead of 1 seat.
My dad always had Mercury's. His first was a 1950 and his last was a 1997 Mercury Sable station wagon. We had a '67 Mercury Montclair sedan when I was little and I think it was his favorite as he always talked about it. I sure wish he was still around to see this, he would have enjoyed it. Thanks for posting it!
What a wonderful find. I love the station wagon. I wish they still made them. I have fond memories of riding in the back and playing games with my brother while traveling in the family wagon. The fold-down seats in the back were part of a trim-level version. Which later on became called a 9-passenger. Our wagon wasn't a 9-passenger. So we had a big "playpen" back there to horse around and play. Such great fun looking out the back window waving at the drivers following us on the interstate.
My dad had one when I was growing up. Went across country in it. Set up a bed in the way back so we kids could sleep. We had several Ford wagons that had the seats back there also. Common for Ford wagons to have the seats. Love your show!
@allan thomas we are trying to stop that here in United States. We can not allow our government to continue to think they have the power. The American People need to stand up and take it back.

Wagons are making a come back, if you can find one. Boy were and your dad were lucky to find this one in great shape. I would keep it stock fix up the interior to where it looks nice fix the back window. Shine her up, hook an trailer on the back, and take the family on a great two week vacation some where. I grew up in the fifties and sixties and we had a 1959 Ford 4 station wagon. Those are my family memories....
@@Hobodeluxe007 You are right Jim. Colony Parks is a great station wagon. All the wagons were great in the 50's, 60's and some in the 70's. Wagons were my favorite cars.
Awesome job getting this great old Mercury going! We had a 1966 Mercury Montclair that this front end looked very much like. Thanks for bringing a smile back to my old face. God bless you all.
Love that old merc...I am a Galaxie man but love the full sized ford's lincolns and mercury cars...can't wait to see it cleaned and running strong can't believe the carb was that clean
I absolutely love this wagon. The two opposed rear side seats were a Ford thing and really cool. First time I ever saw it I believe was an LTD or Country Squire wagon.
Looking forward to all the work on the wagon... Very cool Mercury. Definitely four barrel and dual exhaust with a little extra cam and some decent meats underneath it with factory rally wheels or slots but not slammed but a nice family muscle car rake. And a really good cleaning and reupholster those seats and carpet and that'll be one clean ride.
Always to see you all in real time, conquering the same problems most of us had! I can identify with the frustration on the back couple of plugs on the driver side! I had a 1967 Mustang with 390 engine, and disc brakes, necessitating the brake booster. Ended up buying a universal spark plug socket, and a long extension. Definitely was tight! Those FE block engines are still fairly plentiful, as are parts. My own favorite!
Long before there were SUVs, there was the family station wagon, tons of room and comfort. Not too many make wagons these days. Glad to see this one in good hands!
Loved the Mercury Commuter since I was a Kid, I had the Matchbox model car of it. With two dogs in the back noses out over the tailgate. Great to watch this video, excellent work Guys. Over in the UK we call a Station Wagon an Estate Car.
Guys thank you so very much ,im 68 years old my dad bought a brand new mercury colony park black with red leather and fake wood side ,428 cubic inch and power everything been searching for one forever but they have been wrecked or rusty so I am in heaven watching
Awesome revival, love these old wagons, would love to see a live or vid of the cleanup and restoration of the paint. Great production quality, y’all do great work!
Brings me back in time. My dad had a Buick station wagon and it had the glass panels in the roof. We had my mom and dad and I have 9 brothers and sisters. 6 boys and 4 girls. We had the rear face to face seating and we also, had a station wagon with a rear facing seat. I love that you are saving this old girl. The sheet metal wasn’t that great back then and being up in Maine these cars rusted out before the engines went.
When we mechanics get some old machine running, especially one that a lot of other people have given up on, or consider worthless, I think that the enjoyment we get out of that must be a little reflection of how God must feel as He restores us. God bless you guys.
I really don’t care how long your videos are. I’m watching till the end regardless. I love seeing these old cars get going again. Happy Holidays to you all and your families.
First time I landed on this channel and happy I did. Something about this station wagon really has my interest, I do have a vague memory of going to the camp in a Brown Chevrolet wagon? 5 kids and parents and someone always brought a friend, fun times I'd go back and relive that life forever.
This is my first time watching you all I love 💘 those cars from the 50's & 60's and the 70s those were cars ,tough, they were a lot better than the cars we have today, it's interesting what you guys are doing, hope it's starts, thanks guys
I came from a family of 8 kids and always had a station wagon. The last one we had was just like that one, other than color. All the wagons we had, had tailgates like that. The last one blew a head gasket so they gave it to me. I was 15 and was working on getting my license. I had some experience working on motors & stuff with my dad but it was my first Ford 390. It took me a while but I did get it running, with my dad's advice along the way. Another thing I wanted to mention is I drive a 2005 Mustang now but not very much and about a month ago it had sat for about a week and I got in and tried to start it but the battery was dead. I opened the hood and a rat or ground squirrel had chewed up 3 main wires, and built a nest under the intake manifold. It took a couple of hours to clean up. I still don't have all the sensors working.
... time zone was not in my favor to watch the whole revival live, but so glad to see it fire up... This old commuter will look super cool cleaned up and sitting on a set of old school mags.. nice work guys
I'm 75 years young ,love older vehicels, ive had several threw the years. Fast ones ,not so fast ones.now I have a 51 chevy sports coupe, not so fast its got a rebuilt 216 ci headers split manafold with dual exhaust glass packs the only drawback is it is a 6 volt ,turns over so slow.sounds good when it runs, last summer since it was driven ,
Jaycee C your right. Some people are jealous that we can have fun with less. No electronics,no fuel injection, and no boost and still have true fun. They piss me off. They can go enjoy their imports. I will enjoy good ole American Muscle.
This is definitely going to take off big time I'm lucky enough to suffer doing the same things myself but to be able to watch it in my warm house not covered in junk and get the ohhh yaaaa shes a runner feeling is great. Definitely do a follow up of a good drive down the road tho. Added edit noooo air bags get her mechanically sound and let her eat up the road just as she is
I would cover the carb in plastic while you are removing debris from the engine bay, love these & the Country Squire. Never heard of a commuter before though.
Growing up, our family had five boys and three station wagons, 1953,1959, and 1967 Country Squier. The Squier's back door was like your Mercury. When I married, I got a four cylinder 1:59:10 ɓ Toyota Camry wagon. Very fond memories. There are several who are in the pro-wagon group, so please look for more wagons to restore. I love your live shows. Please cleam her up real nice.
We had a 68 Ford Country Sedan with the 390, the dual function tailgate and those dual facing rear seats. My younger sister and I road back there when we went on family trips. Older sisters got the middle seat. Summer time was rough because the a/c would not reach that far without freezing my mama to death in the front seat. Loved that car. Parents had it from 68 to about 1993.
Those were the days when you could get to everything under the hood. My dad was machanic for over thirty years. He retired when cars became fuel injected and front wheel drive.
Great Job Guys! Hopefully Y’all saw My message/donation we sent during the live. We would love to have Wyatt Pop on by our Live again Saturday’s at 5 Pacific It’s the “Community Not Competition “ Podcast/Live Stream. Cheers and God Bless Y’all!

sometimes i do watch you all day long Retired and love your layed back approch to things you both givew off the "Good People " vibe thanks for doing what you do so enjoy it
I would keep it! Power nation recently worked on a 390 and turned out the block was cracked but I would love to squeeze more power of that 390 with after market heads, intake, exhaust, also the fuel delivery system ! The episode I'm referring to they put a twin four barrel intake and used fuel injection! Would be nice
i like you guys because you guys are christiians, you call parts by their name instead of something silly and you don't do much cobbling, you usually use the right parts to get things going. it is true mechanic work. i love working on old cars.
I would restore it to basically factory condition and maybe warm the engine up a bit but no goofy oversized wheels or loud exhaust. A sleeper not a cocaine special.
How does your garage camera have such a rich picture, I've never seen a camera set up that looks like a Norman Rockwell photo, what set up are you using for the wide shot in the garage??
Need too get these old classic out of retirement n running on the road too appreciate these gems again what America was really like back in the day god bless America 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
My favorite, and I think the most sought after station wagon from what I gather is the 1970-71 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser. I like the fond memories of big family haulers from the 50s to the 80s...
I was 13 when this car came out and I do remember seeing them, dang, I'm old! lol Had a 71' Mercury Comet GT w/307 in it, great car and tons of fun to drive, first and only Merc I ever owned.
I had a 1968 Ford Fairlane 500 wagon with a 390 and an automatic transmission. I bought it with it only running on 7 cylinders. I drove it that way for 3 years and sold it with it still running fine.
i rescued a Volvo V70 estate wagon 2001, 140 bhp, petrol, manual shift, in silver, from the scrap yard , was the best project i have done so far, and a superb car for comfort and class , never regretted a single penny spent on it , and there were an awful lot of pennies, and man hours, not to mention the skinned knuckles .
A friend of mine was given a 1980's dodge charger. That had been sitting for a # of years. He tried driving it to my apt ..the seals went out while turning into the neighborhood. The car was useless after, and we had to push it several blocks to a parking lot. Seals always go out if their not replaced immediately!!! The longer a vehicle has been sitting the sooner the seals need to be replaced B4 driving it ANYWHERE.
Growing up we had a 74 Pinto 9 passenger wagon. Loved that car, sister and I used to have to ride in the jump seats in back with the window down for A/C.

I opened the hood and a rat or ground squirrel had chewed up 3 main wires, and built a nest under the intake manifold. It took a couple of hours to clean up. I still don't have all the sensors working.
Outstanding! Interesting and fantastic to watch these go from destitute to functional again, it's an inspiration as well as interesting as heck!
Neat old wagon! You could put period wheels on it for a mild custom!😁 Cheers!😁
Other then a disc brake conversion, I'd keep it as close to stock as possible.
“than” 🙄😒😳
... time zone was not in my favor to watch the whole revival live, but so glad to see it fire up... This old commuter will look super cool cleaned up and sitting on a set of old school mags.. nice work guys
I'm 75 years young ,love older vehicels, ive had several threw the years. Fast ones ,not so fast ones.now I have a 51 chevy sports coupe, not so fast its got a rebuilt 216 ci headers split manafold with dual exhaust glass packs the only drawback is it is a 6 volt ,turns over so slow.sounds good when it runs, last summer since it was driven ,
Love your adventures getting stuff running, you are good people!
Don't watch TV anymore I just watch "RESTORED", DYLAN MCCOOL, SCOTT'S SPEED SHOP, JUNKERUP, NICK'S GARAGE AND POWER NATION...
Try out Vice Grips Garage
Watch Wes Work is a good one too.
Coldwarmotors another great channel. Master Body man.
I know me too.Nothing worth watch I on tv..thanks for the info.I will check out those other shows
also check out DD speed shop and Lovett Speedshop
Old school is best. No computers, no relays no tons of junk blocking the motor.
@Jaycee C, but can you have 1,000 HP engines in them without said technology, though?
Jaycee C your right. Some people are jealous that we can have fun with less. No electronics,no fuel injection, and no boost and still have true fun. They piss me off. They can go enjoy their imports. I will enjoy good ole American Muscle.
@@torquewisdomgarage Axzactly!!! My best muscle car was my 1974 buick century. With a 350...!!!!
No stems, no seeds that you don't need...
When I was a kid I had a 1969 Pontiac Bonneville that I loved. It was a runner for a wagon. I like to see some of the wagons brought back. Thanks Earl
I am 70 years old and I still love the old ones
This is definitely going to take off big time I'm lucky enough to suffer doing the same things myself but to be able to watch it in my warm house not covered in junk and get the ohhh yaaaa shes a runner feeling is great. Definitely do a follow up of a good drive down the road tho. Added edit noooo air bags get her mechanically sound and let her eat up the road just as she is
I would cover the carb in plastic while you are removing debris from the engine bay, love these & the Country Squire. Never heard of a commuter before though.
Walmart bags are great for that sort of thing. I cover my alt. when I wash under the hood. Pressure washing is a must
I love station wagons when I was a kid lots of room in them girls loved it too
Growing up, our family had five boys and three station wagons, 1953,1959, and 1967 Country Squier.
I'd get the mechanical needs ironed out then work on cosmetics. That would make a rare, good runner.
I like you what are you do you land duvet 68 drag
Why don’t you bypass the picture Jake
I only found out about this channel watching Derek on vgg
When you first drive it you need to blast the song “ Crazy bout a Mercury “
I'll bet Clark Griswold is grinning to see you guys showing some love to his station wagon.
Love your show on UA-cam,Love that you mention Jesus at time when few do.
Keep up the good news and you bringing back old tetired vehicals.
Those were the days when you could get to everything under the hood. My dad was machanic for over thirty years. He retired when cars became fuel injected and front wheel drive.
With a good highway gear and a three-speed automatic you don't need overdrive just add more power.
As I lay here with my tissues and sneezing and coughing and COVID in the next room, but you have really caught my attention and makes me feel better. I have always enjoyed 😉 your Utube instructions. I ❤ U guys! I'll do better when I'm better. Thank you for today. ❤ 💙 💜
Your family inspires me with all your information thank you guys so much and blessings to your family.
I’d love to see the detailing portion of this build along with the shining
She very good with the camera , I mean like professionals,
Definitely restore it , we would put a manual transmission into it and put our huge family in and drive!!
I would love to see another video of it running and cleaned up. I love those old wagons.
sometimes i do watch you all day long Retired and love your layed back approch to things you both givew off the "Good People " vibe thanks for doing what you do so enjoy it
I would keep it!
These guys are way better then Vice Grip Garage garage
Watch your mouth boy😂
Watching from Staten Island New York.
I actually had a 68 Mercury Monterey wagon (9 passenger). Had the same features as yours. 3-way tailgate, rear facing 3rd bench seat, 390 v8.
Love your show love the wagon please no 20 Inch wheels
I would restore it to basically factory condition and maybe warm the engine up a bit but no goofy oversized wheels or loud exhaust. A sleeper not a cocaine special.
Watch Part 2 Cleanup Video Here: ua-cam.com/video/367Adpp7kEw/v-deo.html
I'm in Morgantown wv
How does your garage camera have such a rich picture, I've never seen a camera set up that looks like a Norman Rockwell photo, what set up are you using for the wide shot in the garage??
Need too get these old classic out of retirement n running on the road too appreciate these gems again what America was really like back in the day god bless America 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
My favorite, and I think the most sought after station wagon from what I gather is the 1970-71 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser. I like the fond memories of big family haulers from the 50s to the 80s...
Keep her mostly stock. Maybe a 4V carb and some throaty sounding dual exhaust.
The mercury tried to go to mercury when y’all started it up that first time
20" wheels? Nooooo... fix it, sell it to someone who'll enjoy it as is or period mods...
While I was married we only had one station wagon. My kids loved it. They would go from the back bench seats to the front. Their own play ground.
I was 13 when this car came out and I do remember seeing them, dang, I'm old! lol Had a 71' Mercury Comet GT w/307 in it, great car and tons of fun to drive, first and only Merc I ever owned.
firing order is stamped on intake manifold as I recall.
That's what i remember 👍
Only if it has the original intake and not a aftermarket one
Old mechanic told me tie a rag around your wrist when removing a drain plug
At 1 hour 47 minutes looks like an episode of Cheech and Chong lol
I had a 1968 Ford Fairlane 500 wagon with a 390 and an automatic transmission. I bought it with it only running on 7 cylinders. I drove it that way for 3 years and sold it with it still running fine.
i rescued a Volvo V70 estate wagon 2001, 140 bhp, petrol, manual shift, in silver, from the scrap yard , was the best project i have done so far, and a superb car for comfort and class , never regretted a single penny spent on it , and there were an awful lot of pennies, and man hours, not to mention the skinned knuckles .
It may just be me, but it was driving me crazy with you not covering the carb while cleaning out the rats nests
Ditto here LOL 😂👍🥊
Don't forget to drain all the fluids. And replace the seals.
When are you going to put some lube on those scrunching door hinges?
Growing up we had a 74 Pinto 9 passenger wagon. Loved that car, sister and I used to have to ride in the jump seats in back with the window down for A/C.
