Also some games do exhibit sound issues. The more I play it the more problems I find. Some may not notice the sound isn't perfect or care, but its definitely a issue.

Madlittlepixel how did you hack just simply add games via sd card and put them on folder, that's it!?
@@ChaleX_TiquiciaGamer check properties on micro sd card, ensure FAT32 format. If not use a program to format to FAT32. Then simply on the root of the card put anfolder simply named game. In that folder you can put folders named after the system you want to play. Example NES. Then just put the unzipped roms in those folders. Only supports a handful of consoles, and doesnt play everything. GBA I tested a few and some would crash. Also it will play Genesis, but make sure the file formats are .bin not .md, if .md you can just rename and change the file extension to .bin.

To anyone who does want to play the megaman games, the legacy collection is about $20 for just about any system and probably plays like 10x better.
Even Wily Wars on the Sega Genesis Mini runs better
Too much input lag though- terrible and unplayable on the ps4.

@@razor8717 I have no issues with the PS4 version although I do prefer the Switch version because of more content in the museum like box art and cartridge designs.
Not-so-popular opinion, but not only compared to this but in general, the legacy collections (at least the first one because they ruined some stuff in the second one) are pretty fine in their own right.
Jakks Pacific nailed the Plug 'n Play on their first try. Still love the Ms. Pac-Man model with dynamic steering for Pole Position.

Oh God Mega Man 2's music sounds so weird when it's the wrong pitch. Are you seriously telling me Arcade1up couldn't get a NES emulator right?
This is like AtGames, except it's Arcade1Up that gets it wrong this time.
Some of the arcade games have sound issues as well it appears. Went back and played a bit of everything on these machines. Finding more and more problems besides just sound. Sometimes no matter the controller a input will ghost and cause other inputs to not function. Happens the longer I play for some odd reason.
I think it is a setting in the emulation. When they swap the duty cycle the sound is like this. The weird thing is some people like the sound this way. Usually people who were introduced to these nes games by emulation back in the 90’s when nesticle first came out.

I'm relieved to hear someone else mention that muddy anti-aliasing effect. I picked up the Pac-Man unit with every intention to review it, but I found it to be unremarkable and just returned it to Target without ever shooting a frame of video! 😛
I saw the megaman controller issue as soon as the controller image flashed across the screen. Capcom made the same massive mistake with the game cube version of Megaman collection. There is no excuse for this crap, especially when the programmers decide not to put in alternate controller options.

PCEGirl89 I also saw it at Target, and even that Gameboy looking console that has built in games in it as well. I couldn't stand the Mega Man one, as it's not the way it's supposed to be at all...music and the like.

Older consoles have got replaced with newer versions of similar content, those are still fine for their nostalgic values.
It also sounds like the music is in a different pitch than in the originals.
"Straight up garbage" seems like an overly strong descriptor; at least Arcade 1up did a better job than AtGames in that 1up used actual arcade roms it seems. Anyway, if I see it on discount at Bed Bath & Beyond after the holidays, I'd get them.
Yeah... on that Mega Man one, it would've at least been nice of them to throw in _Mega Man: The Power Battle_ and _Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters_ from the arcade, as well as just the NES originals. That would have been a nice extra touch, and it would've made sense to include some of those extra buttons with them.
They should have included Mega Man 7 & Mega Man & Bass, Super Famicom Edition, as well and maybe even thrown in Mega Man Soccer for good measure.
The fact that they fuggered up the Genesis controls to go against the controller layout while simultaneously ignoring the NES controller layout is frustrating beyond believe. That's like next level stupid... they went out of their way to screw it up

Good to know. I've tried a couple of the handheld systems with 100+ games on it but the A and B buttons were switched. I play games like Mario 3 and Mega Man 2 on pure instinct at this point. I don't want to have to relearn games that are second nature to me.

That sound on Mario 1 and Sonic sounded almost as bad as the AtGames mini consoles...
I actually like the pacman one. The games they are offering is pretty cool. I also like the menu screen. Arcade1up makes awesome products but i hate that the dpad is not of top quality. I would still buy the pacman one but will use a 8bit do controller for it. I enjoyed the unboxing man and for $40; i guess you get what you pay for lol 😆

The music being messed up kills it completely fr the music is one of the best parts of megaman
The buttons being swapped around on the mega man games is a deal breaker for me (not that I was interested in these products, but still). I was so let down when that same issue occurred with the Gamecube version of Mega Man Anniversary. Could have been salvaged if there were options to change the controller setup, but nope.
The shimmering is just because the scaling is not pixel perfect. If it was 8:7 ratio then you would notice the game screen would be thinner and most people would complain. The button mapping makes it a complete no go especially when there are better options out there. I would get the super retrocade instead of this. Thanks for reviewing the megaman version. I am a big megaman fan and was interested in this one. But it ended up being what I anticipated. Will just stick with my tried and true hacked snes classic with 8bitdo wireless controller setup.

I saw both of these at Walmart in the toy isle. I still have a fondness for the Joystick used Ms. Pacman with bonus games from Jakks Pacific from 2004.

It’s cool until you realize these compilations were released for ps2 and can be picked up for next to nil along with collections like capcom arcade classics, Taito classics, neo geo, etc. would be good to get more variety and not just rehashes
Unless you’re on a budget and don’t have consoles or you’re a collector, don’t bother getting this when you can easily download the Namco collection and the Mega Man Legacy collections on switch, PS4, or Xbox one

Arcade 1-Up has an update for the Megaman on their site. Installed it this morning. Fixed the button mapping issue. Playable now
That is good to know, glad they fixed it... Still some testing should have occured prior so the damn thing could have shipped properly to begin with.
Welp, so that was arcade 1up's master plan. Make a bunch of crappy arcade machines to fund making a bunch of crappy at games mini plug and plays. It's like at games in reverse

The arcade (not console) emulation seems alright, that probably uses the same software/hardware set Arcade1up Pac-Man cabinets use. It would probably have been a decent piece overall if it did not have such an awful controller.
The console emulation... That is a screw-up on a ludicrous level. How do both NES and Genesis have downpitched sound? Literally what would have been considered "AtGames Quality" years ago. My guesd is, as their arcade sets were based on chips that Pandora's Box uses, they got the same people who would code their shady custom MAME clones to handle their shady console emulator... And thus, a lack of quality control.

Funny, people complain about swapped controls in Mega Man games, but no attention when Platinum and Bethesda do the same from XBOX to Nintendo versions of Bayonetta (Wii U/Switch) and Skyrim (Switch). No one further memes Kamiya or Howard (especially Howard) in response...
Ironically, I think the Genesis controls of Mega Man: Wily Wars were WAY worse than MMAC on Cube (but maybe it's because I didn't grow up THAT much with the NES games, so controls swap EVERYTIME I play Mega Man on any system). Yeah, you can swap and "fix", but I don't know. C to jump? That freaking far? Not as responsive either. On a Cube controller, I've grown used to B button being jump thanks to another arm canon wielding hero(ine) and at least I can reach it easy with my thumb.
One thing I don’t get is when companies make products like this and still get the sound emulation wrong. Like come on, I’ve seen 2004 Nes emulators with better sound than this 2020 product. It can’t be a copyright issue either, since this is an official license, so I see this as pure laziness.

oh yeah, the reason why the audio is lower pitch is because it's emulating in pal mode.
so if you were to run a pal game, the audio would be fine.

I am shocked. With a company with such a long history of producing top-notch stuff. NOT!. They obviously have an audience with their products, but for me, every single thing they have produced thus far is absolute rubbish. The cabs are rubbish. Keep the vids coming MLP :)

@Madlittlepixel This reminds me of some Consols back in the Mid 90's Early 2000's . One was like a Nintendo 64 Controller you connected to the TV with the classic component cables it's had like 99+ Games built into it . Mario an the Classics Super Nintendo & Nes Games . Another was called The Polystation it looked just like a Playstation came with 2 Controllers a Gun an cables 99+ Games built into it or more . There was also a Polystation Mini I think 1 was designed like a PS2 as well . Not sure but there might have been an Original X-Box Polystation as well . There were quite Popular here in the Caribbean I never had 1 myself growing up could always find them in Indian stores back in the day . Not sure how there were in America but if you could get your hands on a Polystation and review it that would be great . Would like to hear your thoughts an opinions on a Polystation ....

god damn, these are so pathetic that they completely erase any faith i would have in arcade1up's other projects as well. no way would i consider buying one of their 3/4 scale arcade cabinets after seeing this is the kind of work they think is okay to sell. thanks arcade1up for all this landfill fodder, great job.
For clarification only. Some usb controllers (generic Xbox, etc.) Will work with these units. You just have to experiment. Having said that, it sucks to know I can get two better quality controllers from Innext on Amazon for $10 and Arcade1up couldn't be bothered to provide something usable.

Pretty sure it's a defect with the pac controller. I saw Retro Ralph vid about it and he didn't have that problem. Still didn't like the d pad but he said it was controlling ok.

To quote the Eastwood film "For a few dollars more" I would buy the Super Retrocade and get that for $60 or less. IMO. Great video. Peace!

You can actually add SEGA CD (as long as you put the bios in separate folders for each game) and more to these. I’ve heard they will work with Xbox controllers. You may want to play around with them again.
It does work with Xbox controllers, and thats the closest you get, but not mapped properly. I showed Genesis running in the vid and thought I mentioned the xbox controller, maybe in a different take 😆. SNES does play but emulates a lot of games poorly.
I think if someone hacks this and adds the ability to add better emulators and options then it may end up being good. The lack of controller options is bad but if the hacking scene is able to get the Xbox button config correct then any $15 Xbox 360 wired controller could be used. I just don’t know if the hacking scene will care much to mess with this.
I tried sega cd on mine the music was really low and scrachy
@@RyGuy0520 yeah sega cd emulation can be wonky. You have to have a separate bin and cue file. Long ago when these files first appeared online the hacking scene used low quality sound samples to keep the file size lower. Sega cd file sizes were always larger compared to other rom files due to fmv and cd quality audio. You probably have a low quality rom dump. Try downloading some other variations and test. The problem is most rom sites will have rom files with multiple cue files or with separate mp3 files for the music. These won’t work on this emulator. It just uses one bin and one cue file.
I'm not against plug and plays but the only way I see these succeeding is very good emulation and high quality controllers. Idk why these plug and plays never seem to get any better than the ones from the 90s

You know, I've honestly given up on these plug-and-play things (AT Games ones being the chief culprits) because you just KNOW there's gonna be numerous issues with the performance which are gonna bug the hell outta me. Like you say, they're targeted at "impulse" buyers and casual gamers (by tapping into the "nostalgia" factor) but, as for the rest of us, stay well clear of these sub-standard, thoughtless little abominations. A colossal waste of money, space, and time.
I got the pacman one for my mom for Christmas as she grew up playing Pacman and Galaga. Shes spent hours on it and loves it so far. I tried it out and the controls are fine. I had no trouble doing any action in any game and it got the job done. Hey, the controllers wireless too and the console is easy to set up. I would say for a normal casual person who wants to play some of those retro games, this is not trash and they will like it. Now the buttons being backwards on megaman does sound annoying. But, the Pacman one I would recommend. however, this product is obviously not meant for hard core retro gamers or people who have a youtube channel focused on retro gaming.
The thing is if a parent can’t buy a $400 console for their child, I think this is a good substitute. I would substitute the Pac-Man controller for another wireless controller, then your in business. If I wasn’t blessed with a good paying job, I’d probably have one of these. I think you can add more games through the SD card on the back.
The sound in the Mega Man unit is completely wrong. Screw that.

I love Arcade1UP's products normally, (I even have a TMNT cabinet, and love it) but it's a shame to hear they messed up the controls for MM, and the screen quality for Pac, as they should've learned from AtGames' flaws, and took inspiration from how great the NES Classic & Sega Genesis Mini were. AND $40 is too much for a plug-and-play unit with so few games and no options. Hopefully, their Arcade1UP Colecovision portables, and Atari mini consoles will be better.
Stuff like this makes me just tell people to get a Rasberry Pi or a Wii and mod the Wii. Get a classic Wii controller and a cheap HDMI converter also. I seriously don't know why they would include a 6 button controller for Nes versions of Mega Man. Honestly it would have made more sense with the Snes Mega Man X games.
