Take the 80s for instance, 80 and 81 were still recovering from disco fever, new wave was only starting to get big and John Lennon was still well. By 84, most things people would associate with the 80s wouldn't happen after (Macintosh, NES, Back to the Future, Berlin Wall, synths, Terminator, Challenger, Hair Metal, Ghostbusters, etc)
