All the videos I have seen including yours are about exporting sending google docs to some other recipient. I need the reverse and it is to download a long document I attached to an email I sent to myself from my word documents with microsoft. Thank you for any light into this.
On Gmail email view next to the document icon there is a triangle with a + sign. This is to add the document to google drive instantaneously. I this what you were looking for?
For the Auto Substitutions...is that document specific or an over all preference. If it is document specific will it substitute for anyone editing the doc or just me?

i'm copying and pasting chord sheets into googledocs and there is an annoying number of blank lines between lyric lines. is there a way to delete all blank lines in one move?

It's not document specific. it's for every document you edit, and does not apply to other people editing the document

You can reduce the gap with "line and spacing" option on the Google Docs bar.
