Western terminology of demi god is different than what is in Hinduism. It's Kul-devta which means one who protects its kul (Family lineage or the village). In India every lineage has its own Kul devta and Kul Devi who protect their people when called upon (invoked). There have been many examples where Kul -Devi has appeared in wars to destroy the opponents. It's still very much here in the mountains where Kuldevta and Kuldevi listens to its people and protect them.

Greatest of the Demons is a typo
In Hinduism, a demigod is not the half offspring of a god
It means a local deity, a minor god ( not one of the major gods like Vishnu, shiva and their consorts )
Demigods are benevolent but can be ferocious if provoked beyond a point, especially if they are "kshetra pala"
Meaning, Gaurdian deities of a place
Demigods usually preside / protect a certain place
An area, a river, a forest , a mountain etc
Actually the demigod mentioned here, panjurli is a lesser essence of the god varaha who takes the form of a boar. In varaha roopam he is mentioned both the supreme god and supreme demon because he was an Avatar of lord Vishnu himself and he is called the supreme in all demons because he defeated the demon king Hiranyakashipu.
Another funfact: Guliga was once panjurli's enemy but later he submitted to panjurli and accepted him as his master. Also i guess now u know why the boar with jewellery was appearing.

Why does Hindus have so many gods. So. It is believe that there is protecter of a particular area we call it shetrapaal. Then there is a kul devta. A kul devta is a devta your ancestors worshipping generation after generations. Then I forgot the word for it there is a devta for every person. Depends on place date n time u r born. Which somehow guides u in life. We Hindus believe in rebirth n it takes many lifetimes to get rid of death n rebirth and attain god. N that dev help u in ur spiritual way if u r awaken.

Kantara is a serious real rituals of worshipping demigods. Demi gods are protectors and incarnation of gods.This is not a festival , dance or mythology.
This is 'BOOTHA KOLA' rituals. Bhootha means demigod. Kola is worshipping rituals of demigod. Kola happens every year. Kola may happen at family, village or temple demigod. Mostly these rituals happens during night hours between January to May.
Bhoota Kola is the rituals of Indian state of Karnataka coastal regions and northern side of Kerala state.
I am from coastal Karnataka where the devine story gave birth to movie Kanthara.
Everytime I hear the music 'Varaha Rupam' my eyes becomes wet, this song touched my heart and soothes my soul.
For others this is a movie. But for we native coastal Karnataka peoples this is lifeline of our life. Our soul revoles arround 'BHOOTHA KOLA'. For us this is not a thriller story. We believe this is our own household story. We very much emotionaly connected to Bhootha kola and to this movie. Every one moves out of theatre and finds space to wipe the tears. Our tears for Guliga and Panjurli who are everyday protects us the way shiva revived by the Guliga in the climax seen. Everyone gets goose bumps but we get tears as well. We cannot imagine a life without 'Bhutha Kola'.
In this movie divine power such a beautifully picturised I could not hold my tears several times , we believe 'Panjurli' and 'Guliga' are our saviours. Our part of the world never seen any natural calamity for centuries. Last but not least BHOOTHA KOLA binds all the family members and demigod representing performer delivers justice to the family members if there is any family dispute.
This movie picturised with extreme devotion. The one acre area of the film set was treated like holy shrine, no one used to wear shoes or sandals. No one used to eat non veg food or drink alcohol. During entire shooting period director hero Rishab Shetty never visited his family. When you deliver the things with such an extreme devotion , the result is 'KANTHARA' the devine blockbuster.
Kanthara is the result of divine power and blessings. May this divine power protect our 'Bharatha' and the entire humanity.
Finally Rishab Shetty thank you very much for showing our culture to entire world. May Guliga and Panjurli give choicest blessings to you and to your entire family. KANTHARA THE SOUL OF DEVINE POWER.🙏
