So, you are not from coastal Karnataka. That explains some of the errors in translation for cultural concepts. The use of the word "Demigod" (half-god) and the whole translation of the opening lines of Varaha Roopam giving people incorrect ideas about Panjurli being an incarnation of Vishnu. I wish you had chosen better words, sir.

This is the actual portrayal of our culture.
Alot of them didn't know about this until this movie came out and I'm so happy to see people watching this. This dance is called as bhoota kola which means spirit or souls literally protecting the village from calamities making them prosperous but they do so my dancing around. It takes place in my native. I hope you like it ✨
I think every state has different versions of this tradition/culture.

The way this movie celebrates Indian culture and folklore is commendable... It is a must watch for all..there should be more movies like this in future that combine folk tales and culture with the main story.

I had tear's in my eyes after finishing this movie especially the last 15 mins I don't know why but I just did this movie is Powerful. Hats off to Rishabh for giving us such a Gem. It amazes me how Achara just gets everything.
The OG duo is back! With Jaby's eye for technical brillance and the way scenes are staged combined with achara's sharp understanding of intricacies and emotional beats , makes this duo best for a movie like Kantara !!

Achara’s understanding of Indian cinema is astonishing.
Finally Tulu Nad as a linguistic area and Tulu as language does exist in India. However Karanataka state Govt failed to give this recognition but the movie made by Rakshit Shetty and his co made it happen.

Tulu has been the lingua franca a local language spoken by all other minor linguists from Bhramavar in Udupi to Kumble-Manjeshwar in Kasargod this is still the major language of local.
But both states have failed to recognise since the inception of state formation happened in the 50s .
Still it has not been recognised officially by state and central.
And Govt and outsider are trying all their effort to replace Tulu with kannada or Malyalam in their respective lands.
The land of Tulu Nadu was broken in 2 pieces between these states , but still Tuluvas have raised their voice in the most sober way possible it could be.
Isn't it right for people to protect the native language of the region and Govt's responsibility to ensure the linguistic demography not to be changed.
Konkani has got 3000 sq km Goa but an area mass of 8k to 10k sq km Tulu Nadu is still waiting for justice to be done.

Well I'm a movie freak, so far I have never experienced something like this movie before. I literally cried for the last 20 minutes, I didn't have control of my tears. I felt some crazy energy like most of the audience did in the climax. This is the best movie that has ever been made in the whole world. This movie has some divine energy which transcends to the audience through Rishabh Shetty's outstanding performance.

This is one of the most regional aspect of India that not most of the urban indians were aware of and rurals knows that it exist in others part as well... Thank you for providing it acceptance 🤗
Kantara has cultural elements! Though Siva is portrayed to be flawed, he later on realizes to pursue his calling! Some of the scenes r quite raw & stretchy. However the way underlying issues like castism, encroachment, conflicts btw man vs nature, modern outlook vs traditions, customs etc are addressed in very scuttle way! This movie created a new ripple, point of discussion at various levels across nation wide! Can't wait to see your review post the last spectacle scene😅 Goosebumps guaranteed!

The biggest suspense is whether they get to react on the original varaha roopam in the end or not. The one which was in the theatres, the one which sends goosebumps. Also, Achara is 💗💕🤩😍

This movie is strong. It may start out slow, but the story is great. I love Rishabh Shettys preformens (and let's not forget he directed the film too) and specially his portrayal of the Deity Guliga Daiva. His theatrical background doing yakshagana plays did probably help.
I did watched the film twiced on Netflix and after watching it the first time I did some research (thank to Google) to try to understand it better as an European. Always when I like something I try to find out more.
I did see dances like shown in the movie decades ago (in the 80's) in a documentary, but now I have more context.
Yes jaby that gesture is used by natives actually. Initially Thailand Burma and Indonesia all came under chola dynasty. Angkor wat is the biggest temple made by cholas. cholas were from current India..

Watched this reaction watch along and must say i am damn surprised by observational skills and understanding of details are extraordinary. She was able to pick up on details even i couldn't when i first watched the movie when it's literally my mother tongue. Every time she was picking on details i was thinking man i remember i didn't see that coming when i watched it for the first time.
A friend requested me this movie to watch, i gave it a crack. It was fascinating at first and alright in between but the ending gave me chills. It was definitely worth a watch.
Hi Jaby, it is not Poomba. One of the avatara (incarnation) of Bhagawan Vishnu is Wild Boar (Varaha). That sect of the people worship that incarnation of Vishnu and therefore wild boar is respected and worshiped by those people. It is not expected by the person of the sect who believes in this to hurt/kill wild boar and therefore Shiva's mother was upset.
When I watched kantara I feel this movie is so stretched unnecessarily but climax saved the movie still a good timepass movie to watch!! Thanks for reacting to this :)

The demigod Panjurli is the divine spirit of a wild boar. Rishab Shetty's character Shiva is always drinking, stoned, disrespectful to Leela and him hunting the boars is an interesting aspect showing how he's doing the complete opposite of his destiny.
lord shiva destroyer and protector. the shiva character in first half is projected as a destroyer and second half he became protector.
Guys don't miss the last sequence song. It's also the core of story......

To understand this movie, first you have to understand the Indian mindset.
In my childhood whenever we were hungry or had to go for nature call we would go to the nearest home of our friends or known person, they would feed us and take care of our needs. Irrespective of religion caste or creed.

Highly overrated film. South Indian bias in our country is getting out of hand right now. Rishab shetty deserves credit for doing everything for this film but it's not worth the hype at all.
