Probably, his difficult childhood and youth built him as a strong person. I like that about him. I was very sad when I read that he tragically died very young. Well, he didn't really deserve it. It's a shame, really a shame that he didn't get a chance for new projects. I think his career would reach a high level. The guys on the show were a great team, and Pete and Clint and Quince and Wishbone and everyone else. Thanks to all of them. Eric Fleming died on September 28th of 1966, the same month and year I bought a new 1966 Corvette for $3,900.00. Wish we still had Eric and wish I still had that 1966 Corvette!
That is not a Piranha in the thumbnail, it is an African species called Tiger Fish usually associated with the family " Alestidae. " . That is Jeremy Wade from "River Monsters" holding the fish ! Another glaring point, Fleming was not eaten by Piranha, he drowned . It even explains that in the video !
Yeah, I dunno about the hogwash theory of Fleming being eaten by piranhas either. Simple case of a tragic drowning for mine. He played the Mr Favor character exquisitely and was truly a quality actor of his time. I did watch a few of his other movies as well and really enjoyed them.

I've recently been watching Rawhide so here I am. I like both Eastwood and Flemming in the show as both had strong stage presence and played likable characters. Fleming played a good leader, decision making, delegating authority etc. Favor was a jerk to his drovers sometimes, but that's just how bosses are sometimes. Very real to life. Good video.
I was born in 1958. Never remember watching Rawhide as a kid, but recently purchased the complete dvd set. Just started watching season two. Very enjoyable especially seeing young/old guest appearences by actors/actresses I know from later films and tv shows. I liked how Erics charactor was respected by his crew... Mr. Favor.
I wish I could have met Eric Fleming. He was a compassionate trail boss in "RAWHIDE ". He played that role so well! I wanted to know more about him so I read the book "Death on the Amazon". It was written by his fiancee Lynn Garber. He died too soon and will never be forgotten.
The latter part of the video played too fast, but all of it was fascinating. I grew up with Westerns--Bonanza, The Virginian, The Lone Ranger, Gunsmoke, and more. It's nice to know more about this Americana.
I loved them all, as a kid we were partial to Wishbone and Mushy, as an adult I appreciate the masculinity of the others especially Eric and Clint was a beautiful man. Eric had a great voice and delivery.
Fleming has the fatherly thing going on in Raw Hide. He didn't play a dad, but he, for me as a child growing up with my father absent, makes me think of of a strong, fair, loving father type. It's the quiet, but strong, authority figure thing.
I had no idea Eric Fleming died such a tragic death. I remember him the most in Doris Day’s “The Glass Bottom Boat” where he played a very intimidating spy, he was great in it.
I have never forgotten the name Gil Favor, Eric Fleming's Trail Boss character on Rawhide. I liked his character the best. He played a responsible, head on straight kind of guy that kept his cow punching cowboy crew under control. He was a ruggedly handsome man with nice hair. His voice was also very good and distinctive. I am sorry and sad to hear of his childhood challenges. And in his adulthood he worked hard to be a success. He left us way too early. I would have enjoyed watching him in future movies or TV projects. He had what it took to be big in acting. May he Rest in Peace.
Always liked watching Rawhide when i was young. Looked forward to it on Friday nights. Loved the theme song, too. Eric made the perfect trail boss and Clint made a good play off to Eric being boss. I still remember how i woke one morning after dreaming about Eric drowning in a boat when on a fishing trip staying in a cabin. I was so upset about the dream because i liked him so much. This was before his death, and then later to find out he died by drowning, i was so shocked and sad and more upset .
I remember when this happened. It was mentioned on the news. Of course back then they reported it and basically that was it unlike today. I was just a kid and didn't really pay it much attention. Thanks for posting this.
Eric Fleming was not only the star of Rawhide but character was by far the best..he was tough and was more of the Clint Eastwood character on it than Clint himself....it pisses me off that the DVDs have Eastwood prominently on the covers with Fleming in the background or not on them at all.
I never watched Rawhide growing up. Just recently, while on the "Pluto" station, I've had the pleasure of the show. Absolutely yes, Mr Favor is the star of the show. Keeping all things in line and in perspective,,, according to Mr Favor. Surrendering to his faults, accepting his weakness, allowing himself to recover from his own mistakes but not giving up the position he holds. His confidence and reliance on his crew is what gave him his strength. We can BE all of that,,, but what makes it possible is the support of others. Mr Rowdy is a force to be reckoned with. Between the two,,it is what it is. I'd hate to go up against the close bunch.
Just started watching Rawhide on FETV. It caught my attention because of Clint Eastwood, but I’ve fallen in love 🥰 with Gil Favor (Eric Fleming). Thanks 😊 for the video. ❤️❤️❤️ Was that picture in uniform what he looked like before the facial surgery?

As a young teen, I had a huge crush on Clint Eastwood's character, Rowdy Yates. But now, as an old lady nearing seventy, and watching the program, I find myself very attracted to the man, Gil Favor!
Yeh, always had a crush on The Boss, Favor. But Rowdy was a close second. Really loved the gorgeous Bay he rode. What's not to love? Thanks for this history. He was an amazing man who rose above.
Favorite episode???? Really, everything was soooooo good: writing., direction, production, cultural and historic knowledge, etc.. And being a Horse Person I paid special attention to it all... all the way to which characters understood tack and harness and how to use it!. The actor's that knew their Stuff compared to guys who got "put up" for and hour of riding instruction, and didn't pay attention to THAT! The personal history on Eric's Life brought me to tears. I've worked with used children and animals all my life. Got one under my elbow right now. Eric really rose above, didn't he? I have whole more appreciation for this Man. Thank you.
I don't think I had a favorite episode..I liked them all. When I was young we had to watch by antenna. So we was always present when it come on. I also recall my parents talking about Rawhide & Gil Favor. I first heard about his passing hearing them talking about it. I'm 69 yrs old now & I'm still tuning in. Great show & many memories of my family watching this show together. ❤️ ✨
Always heard he had an accident drowning in the Amazon or some river down there. I didn't know about his early childhood, young adult experiences, his service and his early career. He was such an intense actor yet quiet and unassuming. He had a powerful presence that was natural and easy. He was so good; I just figured he'd been an actor all his life and his family too. The only reason I can see why a guy would hate his own son and abuse him the way he did could be maybe because he wasn't? It doesn't justify it, I'm just trying to understand it. . . 'And then at eight years old he actually tries to murder him? A little kid?? That's hate. With all his experiences it's almost a miracle he lived as long as did. YES . . He definitely could've been big. Bigger than Eastwood. I would even say that Eastwood may owe his career to Favor's passing.
@@iwasanangryyoungman They're an incredible fish. They act like an army of ants. I saw some video once of a guy feeding them. It was like the water just exploded.
@@miguelcastaneda7236 He's almost forgotten . . He made a movie once where he played the father of a young woman . . Something about a horse I think. It wasn't your usual Ward Bond or John Wayne type of western. His character was that of a very sympathetic, concerned and loving father. He was still tough though. One scene in the movie has him knocking a guy out flat. It was a real gut wrenching movie and showed just exactly what a masterful actor he was.

Loved Eric Fleming, not Clint.. My late Mother loved Rawhide & have to admit, I did to, so we watched it steady... A Huge thank you for this update on him, & yes, also read where he just got engaged before the tragedy....
I have all seasons of Rawhide on DVD except for season 7. That one costs too much for some reason. Anyway, I think he played Gil Favor better than anyone else would have been able to (including Clint).
Eric Fleming...big (6'5") commanding presence and a beautiful rich voice was a great talent and died very tragically and much too soon...Squint Eastwood was nothing but facial expressions and couldn't act his way out of an open closet...
Even though he died a few years before I was born, having watched Rawhide in Reruns with My parents, I Love And Totally miss Eric Fleming 😢 and what he could have done if he didn't drown.
I can't quite get a hold of how Tragic, his fate seems now. In his past Career, on the Series Rawhide, I always preferred Eric's, role as the Trail Boss Gil. Of course when it began in 1958. That's when I was Born. So probably Seven or maybe Eight yrs, later I was watching maybe the Original Series. But most likely it was Reruns. When I did watch Rawhide, I think 🤔🤔 I was perceiving that Gil Favor( Eric's character) was or could actually of been my Dad portraying the role of The Trail Boss. I do recall at about Eight or Nine years, of age. I was always playing Cowboys n Indians Games. At one time I even had a set of Dual Cap Gun's n Holster set. Ahh the Memories You've brought back. They are so Nostalgic, and wonderful to Recall. The role of Gil Favor was so typical, of what our Parents we're trying too teach Us about being Morally good Citizen's and Human Beings at that time in Society. About disciplinary action then, which Eric's, father sounded like he was a Tyrant n Abusive One. My Dad n Mom, were Both Very Strict!! But yet they were Also Very Fair. In Our Household there were Rules you lived by, & Obeyed. Just as the Hands on Rawhide had too Obey the Rules of the Trail n Life in General. I truly believe, Watching those old TV, show's like Rawhide, Andy Griffith, All in the Family, Hazel, Ozzie n Harriet's, or My Three Sons. They were Excellent 👌 Mentoring, Programs for our Young, Youthful, & often Times conceiving troublesome Minds. Mind You we weren't any Real Bad ass Monsters, any More so than the Youth of Today. But with the Changing Time's, I do Believe we did take the Discipline much more Seriously then. And also from the Criminal Law Side too. Ahh I guess I'd better wrap this Popsicle up. And just say that Eric Fleming, was one of my first TV idol's who made me think 🤔 about things outside our House, & in the World 🌎 in general. IT was sad He Drowned down there in South America, so far from His Native California, roots. Too me He was a Very Fine Actor n Man, who I looked Up To. Thanks For the Tribute too His Life. Wyoming, Robert,🇺🇸🇨🇦🇺🇸🇨🇦🇺🇸🇨🇦👀👀👌👍👌👍🤔🤔🙏🙏🙏🙏

I liked it on Rawhide when he played Gil Favor. When he'd give an order as trail boss and questioned about it he'd say, "Cos I say so". Never giving any explanations why he gave such an order. Clint Eastwood was also a great actor and the TV Series of Rawhide launched his career. Fleming would've had a wonderful career if he hadn't drowned.

It's a shame, really a shame that he didn't get a chance for new projects. I think his career would reach a high level. The guys on the show were a great team, and Pete and Clint and Quince and Wishbone and everyone else. Thanks to all of them. I hope that all those who are no longer with us enjoy their new lives and at the same time take care of us here 😇.
God takes care of us, not deceased people!! Sad,so sad of his horrible childhood ans upbringing. If people pass away, and have not accepted christ jesus into their hearts and lives,,,,please don't put them in heaven,,making them angels. It's now,,now, while we're alive, having the power to choose between accepting God's love, plan of salvation for our souls that we have the chance to be in heaven with God forever! I pray, before Mr. Fleming took his last breath, that he cried out to God to forgive him and save his soul.
Eric was the star of Rawhide sad ending of his life RIP.
We agree! Thank you for watching our content. May Eric find peace 🙏
Eric Fleming died on September 28th of 1966, the same month and year I bought a new 1966 Corvette for $3,900.00. Wish we still had Eric and wish I still had that 1966 Corvette!
You think like I do brother
OMG! Eric Fleming died on my BIRTHDAY: Sept. 28th!! How sad! Still remember him! And Rowdy Yates( Eastwood).
"Head em up,move em out!" I loved waiting till the end of Rawhide to hear Eric Fleming say those words.
The piranha thing was an urban myth. He simply drowned in the river during a movie scene and his body was recovered.
Yup, but his body was not recovered for 3 or 4 days so Im sure things happened to it.
That is correct. 👍
Thanks for the clarification. I didn't hear one word about piranhas in this story. Unsubscribed.
@@Michelles222
That's fact verse for ya !
Thank you. I thought I missed something.
The Huallaga river, goes through my home town, in Peru, no pirañas in that area.
Yeah, I dunno about the hogwash theory of Fleming being eaten by piranhas either. Simple case of a tragic drowning for mine. He played the Mr Favor character exquisitely and was truly a quality actor of his time. I did watch a few of his other movies as well and really enjoyed them.
Eventhough drowning is just as bad but thank you for the heads up 👌🏻
**Rawhide** Was Indeed A Great **Western Saga** That Should Be Ranked Amongst The Top 5 Of Western Pictures!!!!!

Rowdy Yates, Portrayed By **Clint Eastwood** Was A Great **Ramrod** Awesome!!!!! This Show Was Absolutely **Eric Fleming's** Calling To Portray **Mr. Gil Favors**
**KUDOS**
Eric fleming is by far my top pick
The latter part of the video played too fast, but all of it was fascinating. I grew up with Westerns--Bonanza, The Virginian, The Lone Ranger, Gunsmoke, and more. It's nice to know more about this Americana.
Thank you for pointing this out and for sharing your thoughts. We'll check the video 👍
Go into setting and slow down the video speed
It seemed normal speed to me but everyone hears differently.
I sit and relax while watching Rawhide every time I can. Love Gil Favor
We're glad to know that you love the show. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. If we may ask, which episode did you like the best?
Eric Fleming was a great actor will be missed 😢
Well said, we strongly concur! Thank you for watching our content and for sharing your thoughts. What other types of video would you like to see?
I loved them all, as a kid we were partial to Wishbone and Mushy, as an adult I appreciate the masculinity of the others especially Eric and Clint was a beautiful man. Eric had a great voice and delivery.
You're a true fan! Thank you for your beautiful message. What other types of video would you like to see?
Fleming has the fatherly thing going on in Raw Hide. He didn't play a dad, but he, for me as a child growing up with my father absent, makes me think of of a strong, fair, loving father type. It's the quiet, but strong, authority figure thing.
He did play a dad on Rawhide. Had two children back east which he visited.
I had no idea Eric Fleming died such a tragic death. I remember him the most in Doris Day’s “The Glass Bottom Boat” where he played a very intimidating spy, he was great in it.
Sadly, he did die tragically. Thank you for sharing your favorite role of Eric Fleming. May he find peace 💗
Mr Fleming was by far my favorite star. I am sad to hear about his hard life. It shows that he was a strong man to keep going like he did.
So sad. He could've been a huge star 💔⚘
True, thank you for sharing your thoughts! What other types of videos would you like to see?
I was just a kid when I watched rawhide. Fleming was definitely my heart throb. ❤️
We're happy to know that you're a fan of Fleming! Which episode of Rawhide appealed to you the most?
@@FactsVerse don't know, it's been too many years ago. I guess I'll have to watch again! LOL!
Fleming looked like a real cowboy especially with that voice 💪
Eric Fleming by far was the best!!!
God bless him, he has been my legend since I was a little kid, RIP.
Eric Fleming was not only the star of Rawhide but character was by far the best..he was tough and was more of the Clint Eastwood character on it than Clint himself....it pisses me off that the DVDs have Eastwood prominently on the covers with Fleming in the background or not on them at all.
We agree! Thank you for watching our content and for sharing your thoughts. Be on the lookout for our next video!
Was that picture in uniform what he looked like before the facial surgery?
Eric Fleming, No 1 in Rawhide.
and thank you for this clip.

i like to watch gunsmoke, but can't get it for free(have to buy them)
and thank you for your reply.
western, all of them i love.
As a young teen, I had a huge crush on Clint Eastwood's character, Rowdy Yates. But now, as an old lady nearing seventy, and watching the program, I find myself very attracted to the man, Gil Favor!
Hi 👋 Maureen, how are you doing?
Yeh, always had a crush on The Boss, Favor. But Rowdy was a close second. Really loved the gorgeous Bay he rode. What's not to love? Thanks for this history. He was an amazing man who rose above.
You're very much welcome! We're glad to know that you love our video. Which episode of Rawhide appealed to you the most?
Thank you.
Eric Fleming made Rawhide my favorite still watch the reruns so sad about his death 😢
I was quite young back in the day & I admired him. I still get to watch Raw Hide on Saturdays. ❤️✨❤️
We're glad to know that you love the show. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. If we may ask, which episode did you like the best?
I don't think I had a favorite episode..I liked them all. When I was young we had to watch by antenna. So we was always present when it come on.
I also recall my parents talking about Rawhide & Gil Favor. I first heard about his passing hearing them talking about it. I'm 69 yrs old now & I'm still tuning in. Great show & many memories of my family watching this show together. ❤️
✨
Yup, me too! ☺
Ward bond gave many an actor a start from what i understand
Piranha - in Peru? I thought these beasties can only be found in Brazil?
I love Eric Fleming on Rawhide he was my favorite person and still is I'm watching RAWHIDE now ❤❤
Us too! What is your most memorable episode of Rawhide?
Definitely, Eric Fleming as Gil Favor was my fave on Rawhide.
I can't thank you Enough for the Awesome Job you did Making this video.
I started watching RAWHIDE just a couple of years ago. And He was definitely My Favorite in the show. Then Mushy. Thanks for All the Details about His Life and Tragic Death. I felt a very Strong Connection to him. And it really Broke me up to think that The Guy got Eaten by Piranha rather than drowning. I think because He really reminds me of My Dad when he was young. And My Dad taught me how to Ride. I really wish I could've talk to Clint Eastwood and ask him about Eric Fleming ! Ya know, like "Whats his Favorite story about Them. I was wondering,
Did they Ever Find His Body ?
And if so where is he burried ? That is probably the Only person's grave site that I would Visit to pay my respects to. Happy Trails my friend until we meet Again......
Eric Feming was my favorite on Rawhide.

Eric Fleming’s portrayal of Gil Favor was pitch perfect.
He looks like Liam Neeson's dad
Same smile & eyes
This guy is a real man's man
Rest in Love & Peace
He was better looking than Liam.
Nice tribute. Loved the show as a child. Still remember the words to the theme song,
Thanks for watching! We're glad to know that you love our video. If we may ask, which Rawhide episode is the most memorable for you?
Eric Fleming the best, also his acting in the Ol west was a good role model for all and cattle driving was serious .
We agree! Thank you for watching our content. Be on the lookout for our next video!
At one time I even had a set of
Dual Cap Gun's n Holster set. Ahh the Memories You've brought back.
They are so Nostalgic, and wonderful to Recall. The role of Gil Favor was so typical, of what our Parents we're trying too teach Us about being Morally good Citizen's and Human Beings at that time in Society.
About disciplinary action then,
which Eric's, father sounded like he was a Tyrant n Abusive One.
They were Excellent 👌 Mentoring,
Programs for our Young, Youthful, & often Times conceiving troublesome
Minds. Mind You we weren't any Real Bad ass Monsters, any More so than the Youth of Today. But with the Changing Time's, I do Believe we did take the Discipline much more Seriously then. And also from the Criminal Law Side too.
Ahh I guess I'd better wrap this
Popsicle up.
Fleming was the best and Clint Eastwood was very good…
Sorry to see the loss of actor Fleming. I watch rawhide on cable Monday through Friday love the reruns! Specially the blues Brothers version of rawhide the song… glad to see Clint Eastwood is still with us making movies and I think he’s a great person from personal stories I’ve been told by friends. 😉
Eric Fleming was a awesome actor so was Clint Eastwood but as the trail boss Fleming played the part prefect
Eric Fleming was my favorite in Rawhide!!

Fleming was my favorite on Rawhide

I started watching METV Westerns about a year ago and have many actors from them that I really have come to like a lot, Eric Fleming among them. He absolutely the star of Rawhide where he gave a consistent powerful performance each week. It is sad that he did not live a long fruitful manner. Clint Eastwood later blossomed into a powerful performer also. I miss both of them.
