  • I’m going to be white washing our pine ceiling. I know some of you like the look of the natural wood, and so do I, but we have a lot of ceiling, and it makes the room look a little too dark.

    Hey my Dear Painter, DIY person, your UA-cam video on the White Washed pine ceiling was exactly what I was searching for because you did not sand down the old varnish or finish with 150 grit sand paper as the Google instructions suggested. All the dust from the wood / would be kind of prohibitive, for most anyone. The other thing, you are pretty excellent with cutting in the edges. For me I goof sometimes, so painters tape, even tho it is a whole extra step, it is just worth the time. I hope you get my comment because it is a real complement on all that work. My Congratulations, your finished job is bold and beautiful! 😊

    Ive had raw pine ceilings for nearly 20 yrs. I do love timber but the dark is getting to me and my eyes aren't as good as they used to be. It certainly brightened up your room.

      Yeah, we did love it too, but it was just too much. It’s been over a year since I painted it and we haven’t regretted it one second.

    This is exactly what I want for my ceiling cuz I am redoing my bedroom and i am tired of the plain wood. I also work so every wknd i paint parts of my room. I am from the Caribbean so my walls are concrete but the ceiling is plain wood. Thanks for this

    What paint did you use? Must you use eggshell paint or is emulsion ok seeing as no traffic or need for wiping?

    if the pine wood is already stained what do you need to do before white washing over it?

    Did you do any sanding or priming?

    Hi, does it need to be wood paint water based…. Or can it be normal wall paint as well watered down?

    Did you just paint over varnish?

    Why didn’t you sand it first? I have a very similar vaulted ceiling 8m X 6m and 4.6m high.

  • @jennytice6321

    Have you had any stain bleed though since you whitewashed over a previously stained ceiling? I'm thinking about having someone do this to my ceiling instead of sanding first, so wanted to see if it's worth doing it over the stain or if I should have it sanded first (obviously more $$$)?

    I have ceilings similar to this , the house was remodeling in the early 1940s. It has some coating on it, that makes it have some sheen to it similar to yours . If I did just painted it white instead of doing the wash, do you think it could possibly chip?

    Thanks for the great video - the ceiling looks wonderful. But...what was the whitewash paint product you used?

      Just normal interior eggshell paint thinner down a bit.

    How do you vault a cieling and deal with the absence of insulation? Isnt that against code?

    • @MakeItNowchannel
      @MakeItNowchannel  4 роки тому +2

      There is tongue and groove pine, then above that is a few inches of solid foam insulation. I’m sure it wouldn’t pass 2019 code, but perfectly fine for 80s when the house was built.

    I noticed you didn't sand, I have a wall and ceiling like this and worry about the paint yellowing, bleeding through or staining over time....how is yours holding up?

    • @MakeItNowchannel
      @MakeItNowchannel  7 років тому +2

      Hi Ali. I haven't noticed any yellowing so far, but it's been less than a year. Also, the yellowing happens a lot when it's exposed to the UV from sunlight. The ceiling won't be getting any of that. Thanks!

    SO how do you remove it. Someone did that to the house we just bought and I hate it. Do you know how to reverse it?

    • @MakeItNowchannel
      @MakeItNowchannel  7 років тому +3

      Yeah the solution is simple, sand it back down to bare wood. Unfortunately actually doing it will probably take forever. 👎🏻 Are you set on bare wood or have you considered possibly a nicer color? Either way, there is no quick fix.

    My question is about my beams. Never mind the sparkle cottage cheese in between them which will come off before I'm dead I swear. I primed the beams with Kilz to lighten up the room in prep for painting them. I left them as they were cuz they looked white washed. Now kinda wish I wouldve left the beams stained. (I blame Joanna Gaines ha) Can I do a stain wash over that now? I don't nec want them as dark as they were which was DARK. Anyone?

      I got something Darla!
      Strip the lot /and sand with a product at your local hardware store.Stain them with a colour you like... be prepared to do the hours or pay a hefty fee for a painter, otherwise leave them in a nice white base ceiling paint like dusty dawn!

  • @dkly18

    I'm assuming your ceiling was polyurethaned? We are looking a purchasing a home with pine ceiling (and walls and floor) and I'd love to whitewash the walls and ceiling!

    • @MakeItNowchannel
      @MakeItNowchannel  7 років тому +1

      Yeah I'm not sure what was on it. Some sort of varnish I'm guessing. Our house was built in 81, so I'm not sure. But, it's been long enough that whatever they put on had soaked in and dried up, so the pine boards really sucked up the paint.

    I just did this and it suckssss,the best way to do this is hire someone,,trust me on this.plus he cheated out and didn’t rag it off,that’s why it looks more opaque,than regular white wash

      I agree.. I prefer the natural wood. If the room is too dark, it's easy to add more lighting. I like dark places though.. lol

    Your supposed to sand the varnish off the boards, then primer, then paint. Don't hire this guy.

    I want to say that "whitewash" paint job looks atrocious.. The only part that needed attention was the beams. Painting the beams a contrasting or complementing color would have been the way to go here. Some peoples decorating sense is simply non existent. Speak to a color professional or interior decorator before picking up a brush.
